Here are my two cents.... I'm SERIOUSLY not trying to offend you or your band, but why would a tribute band be "signing autographs"? I'm not trying to be funny here... Are you famous? :?

I've thought about this for a while before I posted, but you seriously need to re-think that add you have posted...claiming that you're the "America's top tribute to Journey"...seriously? Come on man, you're just trying to start a war here! :? What makes you "America's top Journey tribute???". I'm no longer in a tribute band, but even still, this statement offends me. It's like you're saying "we're better than all of the other tribute bands in the country.... now come here for an autograph".

You just might want to really think about the wording of your ads before you post them is all I'm saying.

I am not trying to pick a fight, but I just have to say that at one of the last shows that I went to there were several little girls (and some not so little girls) that came up to the band as they walked around, and asked them to sign their tix and other stuff. From what I saw, they were not prepared to sign, and had to look for pens. I could see them gathering a decent following. Yes, it will never be the "real" thing, but pretty damn good!

I have seen a few other tribute bands, and frankly it just kind of feels strange to sit and watch a bunch of dudes trying to be something that they are not. And, it really freaks me out when I see them all dressed like the originals. To me that just seems cheezy. For me, this band seems to be just enjoying playing what they like. The singer (Juan) has an amazing voice and a great stage presence. I will continue to see every show that I can, because they are an excellent band, no matter what they are playing. It is just an extra bonus that they are playing my favorite bands tunes.

Take care,

Hey Tracie,

I'm not trying to take anything away from Juan or the band because I do think they sound good, but when you post an ad saying you're "americas best Journey tribute band"...You had better be the best! This band is NOT the best IMHO, and for them to claim as much, AND say that they are available for autographs just seems a little arrogant to me. Just saying!

Oh, lighten up, Jimbo. It's just a little thing called "marketing". How else are they going to tag themselves, as "A Bunch of Guys Who do Alright. Prolly Not the Best in America, but Prolly the Best You Sorry F@cks Will Ever See"??? Nothing wrong with a little meet & greet (and autographs if requested) afterwards either. They may not be famous now, but, you never know...

So who is the best tribute band in America? Seeing as we can't see Frontiers out here in SoCal, Juan's gang wins by default.

What is this place?

Postby chynablue » Thu Jul 16, 2009 2:11 pm

I put the address into google maps to see what kind of venue this was. Looks like an empty intersection under construction, with an abandoned Mexican restarant...?

Juan, I'm seriously not trying to offend you (because you do sound really good IMHO) but I'm just tryin to get you to look at the marketing you're using. I wish you and the band the best of luck, but when you post this ad in a forum who has Frontiers and Hugo visiting....Just saying.

99.9% of the people in Garden Grove, Costa Mesa, Malibu, hell anywhere west of the Rockies don't even know who Frontiers or Evolution are. I honestly don't think Hugo or Jeremey will take offense. It's not like they're going to be competing in SoCal's tribute band market anytime soon.

Hugo would take it 'cause of the Perryisms.

No doubt, Evolution would whoop the Pineda led Journey in a head to head.

Hey Juan,

I just wanted apologize. I re-read my posts this morning, and I was an asshole last night. A little too much wine, and I'm sorry for being a prick. There's nothing wrong with your ad at all. I hope you can forgive me.

Hey Jim, this is Jeff- keyboards for DSB. No need to apologize at ALL, I actually understand what you're saying. We really don't think of ourselves as the real Journey, we LOVE the stuff and LOVE playing the stuff. I actually feel odd whenever anyone wants me to sign something...I have said to many of my friends, "they don't think we are Journey do they?" Anyway, it's all just about good friends, having a good time and the great music of Journey! I actually just copied and pasted that text off the event site and didn't even look because I was in such a rush yesterday!

Long story short - we will never make the mistake of thinking we are anything but a cover band when we are DSB. When we are doing "The Singing Bee" on CMT though, we will proudly tell you that we ARE the real deal!! :) Again Jim, truly appreciate the apology, but not at all necessary. Wish you could come out to a show, I would love to shake your hand.

See y'all in a few hours!

uh..dude..you were 100% right. Jeremey sounds miles above Juan, and Hugo's "band" (not the voice) sounds better than DSB. Nothing personal to DSB, I'm sure they're a bunch of nice dudes..but as far MelodicRock's Journey tribute bands go, they're a distant 3rd to Fronteirs and Hugo's band. No need for "we'll be signing autographs" and "america's best" around these parts.

Don't speak for all of us. We don't get Frontiers and Evolution in these parts (Los Angeles). Your opinion is noted though. I've got an Idea. Maybe they can change their ad to read "Third best tribute band in America" and put a disclaimer that says "We don't sign autographs because we have been deemed not worthy by the peeps at Melodicrock".
Seriously though, we're talking about tribute bands. If someone wants to say they are better than the real band (and some fans probably will) that might be an issue. At the moment though, I think nitpicking their ad sounds like sour grapes or perhaps jealousy coming from other musicians.

Im my floyd cover band I was freaked that people wanted autographs after the shows. :?

I signed them and gave away a few sticks but I was and still am shocked that people asked for our autographs and wanted my drum sticks !!! I know we sounded good but damn !

And as far as best sounding Journey tribute singer ever? I have to give that to Escape from Ohio with Jason Kelty because it wasnt just the voice. The damn guitar player was spot on in every way as well. Dont know that he still has it and as Paul has not been here in a while to update us I have to wonder if they changed their mind on the Journey tribute and decided to stay a multi-tribute. I dont know about now but back in the mid to late 90's kelty was the shit. I though he sounded great despite the terrible quality of the audio that paul posted sometime back a few months ago. I hope they end up doing the Journey thing again as i was all hyped to drive up to Cleaveland sometime this summer.

Sour grapes would have been the wine, so you're half right. Absolutely no jealousy here. I no longer play in a tribute band, and there's nothing to be jealous about. I've given them props before, and I think they're a great band. I think I was just WAY too buzzed last night, and when I saw the "we'll be signing autographs" it just hit me the wrong way. It's not that they sign autugraphs...just that they announced they were going to be signing them.

Either way, it's none of my business, and I was completely out of line with my actions last night. Once again Jeff, I apologize. If you guys were closer, I'd DEFINITELY come out and check out the band! You sound great.
