Steve Perry is being interviewed this week by the CBC, Canada's radio network, for a story on the enduring popularity of Don't Stop Believing.

Hopefully the guy will find a way to stray away from DSB
and ask some interesting questions like,
"So Steve, you say you still think about music all he time,
have melodies going thru your head all the time... Christ

No, but I'm sure it's coming soon. I agree on all levels. Not trying to diminish the opp to hear Perry, but really, let's talk about something else besides DSB. Hopefully the interviewer will branch out, but I also think that Perry has to be willing to talk about other stuff, and not be so on-guard about other topics.

I so agree with everything you said. It will be great to hear an interview with him as he is always interesting. But who cares anymore about DSB's popularity and why. It was interesting to talk about and hear about the first year after Soprano's. And I'm like you, I'm so worried it will be generalized answers, and if so, will be very disappointed since he's been recording and supposedly going to release something. If he doesn't admit to working on an album and his plans regarding releasing sometime in the future, I don't hold out hope, and his usual pat answers won't mean a thing. There's a lot of other artists who love to talk about their craft and what they're working on and their excitement about it, not hush-hush, and I appreciate that. So there will be no pining here after this interview if it's the usual and nothing forthcoming. I hope he proves me wrong.

You're right Onestepper. I'd like them to ask Perry what his favorite colour is and what he looks for in a woman. It'd also be great to get a list of his beauty products. You know, all the important stuff.

Unless Perry's plugging NEW music (not reissues), or talking voice stuff, I have no desire to hear from him.

But I'd say that if we don't at least hear SOMETHING about anything upcoming, I will also pretty much have given up. Hate to say that, but that's how I feel now.

Funny, but as I realize more and more that we may not ever get anything new, it makes me listen to all of my old stuff and really appreciate what he gave us. He gave us everything he had, including at least some of his ability to do what it seemed that he loved most. How dedicated to the music and the fans is that?

If that's the case all I can really think of to say is, 'Thank You". We're lucky to have ever had our ears be graced by that voice. If there's ever new stuff, I'll own it the second that it's possible to, but if there isn't, it's OK too. The greatest male pop/rock singer ever to hold a micrphone gave us enough music to last a lifetime. Whatever is best for him now, is what I hope for. I'll always be musically indebted and thankful for the soundtrack to my wonderful youth and my adult life.

I wouldn't plan on hearing anything anytime soon from Perry. He just doesn't need to do anything. Journey is in the top 12 for songs played on soft adult contemporary radio stations and in the top 20 for classic rock stations. That revenue stream alone is enough for him not to have to do anything (or for that matter Neal and Jon also). The Manila DVD is coming out and the Journey documentary. We know both of them will have DSB and other songs he co-wrote on them. Yet another revenue stream. Let's not forget, the Sopranos DVD collection is selling well, and we also had Rockband, ATT and a number one movie Monsters vs Aliens all using Journey music this year. Neal could have retired years ago, except apparently, he and Cain still enjoy touring and Deen, Ross and Pineda still need to earn a living. Perry for all intensive purposes has retired. You will be hard pressed to find Journey songs on Timelife collections and all those other money making products simply because the guys don't need it. Also with new legislation coming along from the Copyright Royalty board concerning Digital content, things are looking even better for all song writers and musicians in general. The best thing Perry can do is stay retired. Let people remember the Voice as it was. One thing that isn't going to stop anytime soon is hearing Steve's voice, whether solo or with Journey every day on the radio. That is what makes a legacy.

it's just a delay and one day will be out, but it could end up being like the Against the Wall album, or whatever the name was, that never came out. In that case, you're right, that will probably be it and just enjoy the older stuff.

I may be a loon but I'm a Journey/Perry loon. Something like Street Talk is fine but I don't think that will happen especially with the way the band ended up sounding on ROR and the direction Perry took with his own his solo album FTLOSM. There's a couple songs I like from that period but most of them do nothing for me. Sort of how I feel about any Journey material after Frontiers up to this point. A few gems but for the most part, nothing like the first five Journey/Perry albums.
I would think that most musician's dreams are to be rich, have a big hit and have their music played on the radio forever. Journey and Perry have accomplished that for the most part, what else is there to achieve?

I'm just saying where I am coming from on this issue. I am obviously not speaking for the loons or anyone else on the matter.
