SP Fan in Oregon wrote:When the podcast comes out I can confirm, but I thought SP talked fondly about the guys in Journey when he said, "we were good together." I also have not previously heard his comments about Neal's guitar playing on DSB, where SP has noticed the sounds like running on tracks and how SP really likes that. In addition, it isn't very often that a star, such a Perry, shares his very personal and private feelings like he did today. Moms are so important in all of our lives, but with Perry's father leaving the family when he was a young child (I think 7 years old), most likely heightened the bond with his mother. His profound appreciation for her and sharing his memories of all she did for him was very touching and moving to hear today. I'm sure Perry didn't really expect the emotions to come out as he tried to keep them contained once they started. It made my heart melt to hear it though. I have thought before that maybe he sang for her, to make her proud of him, to be all that she believed in about him. Now that she has passed on, he has nothing left to sing for that is personal to him. We can't always assume that his devotion to singing was motivated by the throngs of fans, but perhaps by only one very special fan, his loving mother.

That was great you may very well on to something here.

I think this radio interview was a specific request to discuss certain topics. I don't believe it was an interview where Mr. Perry was offered the chance to make general statements concerning a general range of topics. The interviewer was looking for information regarding DSB and its influence on television programming (so it appears) it was not an opportunity to do in depth interviewing. The interviewer missed several chances where he could do follow up, i.e., when Steve became emotional discussing his mother which he should have if he was a good interviewer but he didn't. Anyhow that's how I see it. It's not Perry's fault; it is just the structure of this very specific conversation interview from his tradmark "you owe me money to the thank you at the end".

I LOVED this part of the interview!! I was just going to say that when he said "we were good together" he wasn't focusing on what went wrong when they broke up, but rather what went right (and really right, at that) while they were together. They were superstars together, and that's because of the connection they had to each other as songwriters and performers.

I always thought it was supposed to sound like railroad tracks. And the last two notes sound like the CHOO CHOO. LOL Funny, that they didn't plan it that way.

Oh, and one more thing... just in case you didn't know.

(I'm Canadian and I listen to this radio show all the time) -- Jian Ghomeshi, the interviewer and host of the show, Q, was the one who was interviewing Billy Bob Thornton a few months ago when he had his on-air meltdown and made international headlines. I thought Jian held his own during that fiasco. LOL

I have never heard or read any interview of Steve saying an unkind thing about his bandmates. He has taken the high road everytime. The body of work they produced will live on in the hearts and minds of Steve and us forever. Maybe it is best that SP left at the top of his game, invested wisely, and is enjoying other aspects of his life now, without having to live out his life from a suitcase in a hotel room in foreign countries. Instead, he gets to eat Dodger dogs, enjoy his teams, work with Pro Tools and his Mac Book, help other musicians with their songs, maybe direct and produce more, go to car shows and car races, horse races, and any other regular guy things he wants to do. He deserves to do whatever the hell the man wants to do. He earned it!

I saw that interview on YouTube. Not sure what the hell was going on but if you ask me, I think it was a staged event on Billy Bob's part, on an unwitting interviewer, to create drama and bring more attention to the band. If that interview had gone off without a hitch, we wouldn't still be talking about it, and I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have been spoken of at all on this board. If that was indeed the case, then it worked like a charm.

But you are right, the interviewer did a great job of handling the situation.

I don't know, all that really means is the four other people either can't read or cared more about starting their own Perry thread than keeping the board decluttered and keeping it all in one place. Andrew... isn't there a merge function?

1 duplicate topic is an honest error. 4 is just ricockulous and unnecessary. But who the hell listens to me, anyway... carry on... start another 20 topics about Steve Perry and "Don't Stop Believin" if y'all choose.

I haven't listened yet... when's the album coming out?!

I just wrote this into Q -- hopefully they'll read my comments on air:

I, too, wondered why "Don't Stop Believin'" of all songs, was the 80s anthem that stood the test of time. Somewhere about five years ago, I got reintroduced to the band "Survivor" -- (the second iteration, mind you... when the lead singer was Jimi Jamison, and not the "Eye of the Tiger" guy), and promptly got mocked by everyone I knew. They called it 'fromage' or 'men whose jeans are too tight' music. I didn't care. I like that tenor-altino range in a male vocal. Call me nuts.

Anyhow, some fans called Survivor "the poor man's Journey" and I was frankly, insulted.

So for a laugh, I gave Journey a listen, 25 years after the fact.

And dammit, those fans were right. Journey has stood the test of time. They are tight, pure and crisp. They have a sound that Survivor attempts to mimic, but can't. I'm still a huge Survivor fan, but I pay homage where homage is due.

If you ever doubt the Journey fandom, check out the forums at melodicRock.com and marvel at the TENS of THOUSANDS of postings in the Journey forum and the HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of page views.

Thanks for a great interview with Steve Perry. We fans were delighted.

Perry Interview wrote:"First of all it starts off with probably the most distinctive two or three notes on a piano that have ever been played. As soon as you hear those piano notes, you know it's Don't Stop Believing."

I have been informed that Tito completely agrees with this statement and wished you all to know such.

Peace out, hometowns. :P
