As serious as a Heart Attack. I think having DSB listed as one of the tracks helped sales significantly. People are suckers for Greatest hits packs, especially Journey fans. Look at the Essential Journey discs, those went platinum only three years before, and The Journey Greatest Hits DVD going 4X platinum only two years ago also. Journey fans gobble that shit up. Slap DSB on any disc and it will sell, case closed. Sony would probably put that in the contract for Perry if he were to try and release another disc through them. Either include a redone version of DSB or get out of town.
Better for Perry to stay retired then to rehash that song again. Sony would have it on the radio for sure, just causing further confusion about who the singer for Journey is.

You know what GB, not the majority of Revelation. They had a huge marketing b/c of Arnel and how he was hired. And my beef with MS statement is the pull those GH adds to the sale is due to Journey, not Steve Perry alone. It's Journey's music, all of them. According to MS and his asinine statement, the MAJORITY of Revelation's sales falls squarely on the shoulders of Steve Perry. You want to believe that, go ahead. What a joke.

Before or after Revelation doubled FTLOSM's sales?

New disc vs. new disc, it didn't. Half a million to half a million. FTLOSM would have gone platinum too if he had released one disc of remakes and counted BOTH of them, and released a live DVD. Get that argument out.

And how did the 3 albums before Revelation do? Did they even total 200,000 combined?

Most all of the million sold of Revelation can be attributed to Steve Perry. Deal with it.

So sad the way you have to tear down any accomplishment of Journey without Perry by saying most all of the million sold is due to him just to elevate Perry. What a silly remark. Perry doesn't need you dissing Journey to elevate him. If you had any balance in that statement people might respect your opinion. You sound so pathetic in your bitterness. I just don't get it.

I wasn't trying to tear down Journey, but do you really think a half million people would've bought that record with only new music on it and not the songs that SP helped make famous? They didn't on the previous 3 releases without SP, why would they have this time? Just to hear Arnel?

SP doesn't need anybody to elevate him, he's held in the highest possible regard as a vocalist, we all know that. I wasn't "dissing"(talk about a silly term, typical stupid rap gibberish) , anyone. Just stating my opinion.

And if you think my remark was silly or I sound pathetic or bitter, that's your right. I really couldn't care less what you think.

I'm not saying what he was saying. I'm talking about an individual song. Coupled with the youtube/ Homeless story it all combined to help push sales of the album. I think Arnel's vocal ability, while very good was the smallest denominator in terms of sales. I think he just needed to provide an adequate performance and the rest would take care of itself.

See, I would love Steve Perry to do his own verision of Revelation D2.
Given the fact that he seems to perspire blood when conjuring up new songs and that mountain ranges form and and fall during his writing sessions, it makes the most sense.

Throw his favorite Journey songs on there and some of his solo stuff, rerecord and release them.

"Let's reform this thing.Let's go out and get some guys who want to work and go do it"--Neal Schon February, 2001

So... its sacrilege for Journey to re-record Journey songs, but its OK if Perry does it?

That WOULD be the bomb, but only if Neal were on guitar. The rest of it, he could have whoever he wanted.

Steve is the "VOICE" of those songs, and Neal is the "MUSIC". That combination is irreplaceable on any level.

That's a pretty fair assessment. Each always feels like something is lacking, to me, in the stuff they do apart.
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

Amen to that! While I enjoy SP's solo stuff...I can't help but think while listening how good it would sound with Schon on guitar. I enjoy Neal's solo cd's as well, but add SP's vocals to a few tracks and wow. Together...they were magic.
