Snakes & Arrows Live DVD April 15, 2008

Just one I thought of off the top of my head. I'm sure I can find more.

Umm...AC/DC is continuing to tour this summer in support of last year's platinum(WalMart exclusive) CD, Black Ice.

Make that 2X Platinum.

Well, we all know AC/DC and Rush are just desperate bands trying to scrape what's left out of the bottom of the bowl. As is the same with Journey.

I'm not sure how you could get back into the studio any faster than this fall like they will be. Two years between records is better than 4 and 3 with Augeri. Granted, it's not an album every year like in the old days, but no bands do that anymore. It's no secret that touring is where the money is, but I'll take an album every other year.

You have a short term memory. Journey, or one member or another, said almost EVERY YEAR that they were going to get back to the studio. But, every year one more tour was too big to pass up.

You are assuming the same will not happen in today's world...which, IMO, is no different then back then.

I finaly saw this show...So, I'll throw in my very late opinion....

I thought "Stone In Love" and "Separate Ways" were pretty good. Nicely done in fact.

But, DSB and AWYWI were not very good at all. Arnel just seemed off...rushing through things and not making it happen.

Neal also seemed off. The intros in his solos seemed to be timed wrong, or something. He'd be in his solo and then it seemed he would jump into his speed, finger flurry thing and it was cut short or something. I don't know what it was but it wasn't his normal flow of things.

Yeah, I agree that Jonathan's keys were buried most of the time...but, so what. The only keyboard heavy song was DSB, and I thought the keys were there when they needed to be.

Ross was himself, a very average disposable bassist. Again, so what...it's not like that has been any different for the past 25yrs.

I would say it was a very average performance. Good on two songs, not so good on the other two.

Actually they are known to tour the album, then tour again, then maybe even tour again before recording. But it is a reality that they tour at least twice...

Dave, Jon Cain has already been quoted as saying thay'll be hitting the studio in October, so I assume we'll see a new CD by next spring, early summer. I also remember reading The Caveman's blog recently which confirms this. Looks like this will be another big production I'd guess, if they're bringing Kevin Shirley back.

This will be shock and awe, actually. This is going to be the last stand or one of them. I expect nothing short of magnificent. I will not quote the source, but it has been said that those who have been underestimating Arnel's contributions / value to this band will be blown into the next millenium, once the new album has been released. Remember where you heard it first. The album is going to be produced in Hong Kong.

My memory is fine, thanks. Journey has not said every year that they are getting back into the studio with a specific timeframe. Nothing like Cain saying that they'll be in the studio this fall. It's always been "well, we will hit the studio soon..."

Monker, do you think they would forego that big tour to save Arnel's voice, or just push him on regardless? From the sounds of it, he's had quite a bit of illness lately, which can only mean bad things for him in the future without some serious rest. I guess history tells us that they would push on, but if you look at history and what the future holds (I mean, how many lead singers can they go through and still be viable?) one would think a little rest would do them good.

Unfortunately, given the recent detuning, etc, I foresee another Augeri situation looming. :?

What's wrong about that statement? What "big tour" are they going to do between the end of this one and the beginning of next summer's tour? Next summer's tour will be an album tour, and it will be a big one. They never do a big fall/winter tour. Maybe a fall/winter leg of an album tour (Generations 2005 and almost Revelation 2008). So tell me how they will pass up work on an album in the fall of 2009 to start a "big tour."

Answer me that. Even if you can't, you'll sure try your best to twist the facts.

I know I'm not Monker (thank goodness  ), but I feel they have already done a better job of saving Arnel than they did Augeri. They decided not to go ahead with a fall/winter leg of the Revelation Tour last year because he was running on fumes at the end of the summer leg. It was going to be about 30 dates with Foreigner as the support act. When else have they turned down more tour dates?

Also, tonight's show with be only the fourth in the last seven days. They played Sioux Falls on the 19th, Red Rocks on the 21st, Paso Robles on the 23rd and then Reno tonight. They go back-to-back tomorrow with Boise, but then it's two more days off and then the first of two shows at the same place in California. They're also looking at an eight-day break around the first week of August, which is barely three weeks into the tour. This tour is routed very nicely with ample time in between shows.

I just think they know this is their last real chance (unless Perry re-enters the fold), so I do think they are being more cautious. Plus, they've only played about 90-minute sets since Arnel joined the band. Not two hour sets at the beginning of Augeri's career or 3-hour sets on the Generations Tour. Shorter sets coupled with more days off will help him in the long run.

Just my opinion.

I guess it will depend on which other band it can hook up with. I don't think there's a question that they are a 'touring' band. I'm pretty sure Neal has said that much himself. It may also depend on who is gonna distribute their new album. Dan, do you know that much?

Good point on wondering who will distribute the new album. Yes, they're a touring band, but it's not like they tour 11 months a year. It seems to historically be six months on, six months off. So when Monker says that he doesn't think they'll work on an album because that means they'll pass up a "big tour" - well, they never do a "big tour" in the winter. They'll be recording in the down-time between tours, just like they did with Revelation.

I don't see what's so hard for Monker to believe about this new album's supposed time frame. We learned from Kevin Shirley that they went into the studio for Revelation around October for a June release. Look when this leg of the Revelation tour ends...October.

Good question about the distribution deal for this new album. I wonder if they were told by Wal-Mart to go for a June release for Revelation. It probably could have been released sooner.

Not the slightest clue, Donna. I just heard that they had studio time reserved with Shirley in November and that they're going to write and record for a few weeks, rest and enjoy the holidays, release the album at the end of February or somewhere near there and start to tour at their usual early March start date.

If you viewed the youtube Download Festival interview and and also the one from Belgium, the guys mentioned that management doesn't have them touring Europe in 2010 or maybe it was just those specific festivals...it was unclear.

I didn't see those interviews. Maybe that means we'll get a longer summer tour here in the States in 2010. I just assumed a European Tour since it seems to be the norm the last few years. Could just be an earlier-starting U.S. Tour.

That will piss off a lot of Brits if it's true. Many people wanted to see Journey perfoming complete sets as a headliner this year and were not happy with them playing the Festival circuit. If they have to wait until 2011 to see a proper Journey show, they're not going to be happy. British fans have shown tremendus support for Augeri, JSS and Pineda. This will be a serious downer for them.

I seem to remember somebody saying that it's really not cost-effective to do a headlining tour in Europe, simply because there are a few giant venues (that Journey couldn't fill), a lot of small theatres (that Journey could fill four times over for a show) and not much in between. So couple the smaller venues with the cost of getting over there, getting their equipment there, renting trucks, paying the crew, etc. and it makes for interesting financials. They toured Europe in some capacity the last four years (2006-2009), which was the first time in 20-some years. That might be it for a little while...

If Meatloaf can sell out Wembley with his shredded vocals, I would think Journey could also. Oh, well, Azoff knows best I guess.

I've read that it doesn't take a parrot too many tries to get it right, so their recording process might be lots faster with Arnel. LOL ;)

Actually, it seems Arnel really nailed most of Revelation on the first couple takes, from what I read somewhere. I think they could get an album out in that time if they just focus on it and nothing else.

And frankly, I do not understand this process. Sounds like a bunch of other shit to go thru for sure And, how is it going to be marketed is the other big question of the hour. I really hope it goes the iTunes route. If it's any good at all there will be killer sales. Otherwise what can we expect, another Walmart deal with limited supply?

Actually, it seems Arnel really nailed most of Revelation on the first couple takes, from what I read somewhere. I think they could get an album out in that time if they just focus on it and nothing else.

Journey sold more with Wal-Mart than they have since Perry left. It's nothing to turn your nose up at, especially if they do some kind of package deal. A lot of Wal-Marts still have it in stock, like in my area, and it is sold on Journey's website. For Journey to sell 750,000 CDs was fantastic at this stage of the game.

And I agree, I don't see a February release date.

Oh, Jana, I do not disagree with the sales results being good. I just felt the album did not sell at it's full potential. Don't get me wrong, I'm ecstatic about it. I'm optimistic and I see a future here for these guys and only wish for the greatest success. :D

This was on the other morning at 10 am and I missed it, so I hope it comes on again in a few weeks...Going to be on the road and away from HD for the week.

It is feasible to get together and write and record the new record by the end of the year, but nearly impossible to have on shelves by February. Journey doesn't even have a record deal.
