This performance by Perry is the one that started the train rolling. One of the first Journey videos on MTV. None of the others even come close.

Perry should always be exempt to polls like these. He is the de-facto standard. No point to pit his voice against the replacement singers.
Just IMHO.

LOL - It's kind of like asking who does the best job on Jailhouse Rock or Blue Suede Shoes, right?

I dunno, some days I'm in a Carl mood, some days I'm in an Elvis mood.

Carl did write it, though. Props for that.

I gotta say, I think the "When You Love A Woman" video is probably the best they've ever made. It's not goofy at all.

How can you include Hugo and not Jeremey? I mean, if you want to keep it to official Journey singers, then by all means... but if you're gonna include tributes, I don't see how you can exclude J

Love that video. They look drunk and like they're having a great time. The Japanese audiences are amazing back then, sitting there so prim and proper. We've ruined them now though, they're out of control.

That's the one. I think that was the third show into the tour and MTV got a copy of it a week later. It's actually edited as the part where he kicks and the scene of the girls in the front row clapping come from different parts of the concert.

I love Perry's intro on that version. The Japanese audiences still aren't out of control like the American audiences. They come out in full force, but still pretty well behaved IMO. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ky_exUBoYQM

Billy is the shit. One of, if not the best bass players on this planet. Gilbert is either very tall, or everyone else is really short. Very cool video, I hadn't seen this one before. EM sounds great.

But see how the audience pretty much stay/stand by their seats still. And I love EM, but who the heck dressed him?! What is with wearing a suit vest over a jersey? LOL, one or the other please.

It's a silly poll, and that's why I didn't participate. Of course, it's Perry.

He needs to hire you as his personal assistant. You're right, that audience isn't like the US, UK or South American crowds at all. They're much looser than they used to be though.

Jeremey, is in a league of his own ;) yeah I couldn't find any decent live recordings of JH's renditions of the songs.

BTW Perry my a mile. I listened to the other version, while all good... Perry actually tears the roof off, big difference there.

I don't know that I would have put it quite that way, but yeah... who in hell isn't voting for Perry on this one? It's a no brainer. This song was a MONSTER long before any of the other choices hit the scene.

If I had a copy of my 1st performance with Frontiers, you would have seen an awesome version of DSB that was amazing! I played my 1st gig with them at Amos's Southend in Charlotte NC, and when I hit those opening notes, the place went fucking NUTS!!!  That is still to this day, my favorite gig I've ever played. :D It wasn't the biggest (by far), but definitely the best.

Jeremey had a snippet of the intro to that song up a few years ago, but took it down. I've never heard a crowd (there were around 550 people there) go so wild, and they were singing loud as hell! That is a night I'll never forget.
