Perry as a Farmer?

Postby SP Fan in Oregon » Tue Jul 28, 2009 12:22 pm

On my drive back from Southern California yesterday, I saw an exit on I-5 for Hanford/Lemoore.
It just so happened to be the same exit as a popular restaurant called Harris Ranch. The sign
said 34 miles to Hanford, 27 to Lemoore. I never noticed it before. It was 107 degrees when I stopped. It
was too many miles to drive into either town, but I could see the area to the east. The whole area is a huge farming community,
with nut trees, olive trees, tomatoes, garlic, and other crops. Just seeing the desolation of the area and where
Perry was as a kid made me think about the CBC radio interview, about what Perry said about his mother encouraging him to be
a singer instead of a farmer. I laughed to myself when I got this image of Perry driving some huge air-conditioned John Deere tractor
out in the field, singing at the top of his lungs and no one around to hear it.  What might have been, but for destiny in all of our lives.

My grandmother used to live in Lindsay. She took me all over that area. That was 30 years ago though.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

Hey, I wanted to thank you for the CBC radio interview uncut version you provided. I found your post and was able to download it today.
I was so worried that I would not get home in time to save it on my main computer. :)

Back in the 60s/70s I doubt many of those tractors had A/C. I'll bet that turkey ranch smelled good too.

I am lmao at the people that gave Chubby a hard time re her review posting in a Journey concert thread (and my posting reviews, since I do also), and now we have another Perry thread, what if he was a farmer.   But I'm sure that's peachy.

I have no problem with it, and I have no problem with SPFIO posting it because anything goes here and b/c she has no problem with the Journey concert review threads and doesn't see the problem. But for those that do, here's something more interesting for you.

There are many many farmers in America that are very proud of what they do, and would rather do it than anything else. I'm sure that Perry would have been very successful at it. Yes, it's good that we got to hear him sing, but we'd never have known the difference if he didn't.

Yeah, but if Perry had become a turkey rancher instead of a singer, we'd all be eating pizza for Thanksgiving. Heaven knows when, or if, he ever would have release one of those birds.

Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!
