Now, now. Let's not get carried away. We certainly DO NOT need a thread dedicated to any of our favorite singers' bum notes (yikes!). The problem is, when you're "The Voice", and you have a cadre of fans spouting off about your worst day being better than anyone else's best day, it invites a certain amount of scrutiny. So, here we have incontrovertible evidence that even the great S**P was not infallible.

Just get a boot from the ROR tour and you lock him up and throw away the key when it comes to evidence.

Hey, there! What ya talkin' bout?

I once typed something like "SP's worst note is better than a lot of the singers out there now" and I still think that! Gimme a break...

Hey, you'll get no arguement from me. :D As far as I'm conserned ALL of S**P's notes are like chocolate - even the worst one you've ever had is still pretty good. But then again, I'm a Loon.

His voice was rough in a couple of places with no power, but I've heard the same song in clips for the same year that are excellent, heads and tails above this delivery, and not as fast. No one is perfect. And anyone that says a singer never delivers a less than perfect performance on a song here or there in all the concerts they do over their career is silly. Sure, some singers, like Perry are more spot on the majority of the time, but some days are better than others for all singers touring as the years go on in their career.

SJ was talking about the one with Pineda. He was at two Vegas shows in 08, so I'm not sure which one he was referencing, but I was at the first one, and Deen sang two songs that night. Mother, Father, which made it on the DVD and another song, and it may have been After The Fall, but I don't remember for sure.

Bingo...Deen did sing ATF at the DVD show at Planet Hollywood. That song just didn't make the DVD although, from what I remember, Deen sang it well enough for it to be included.

Listen at 3:50 Steve didn't hit the high note, just like I said.

Uh-oh.

Now, of course you know, ror92, this is going to set off a storm of Loons rushing in to Stevies defense. I'll just start the quibbling by saying I'm not quite sure that last blast was a full 6 notes lower.

I worded it wrong. 6 semi-tones. About 3 notes. Ah well, let them rush at me in Steve's defense, I don't care. I'm sure Steve wasn't happy that he missed that note, too.

See, there's a difference in not hitting a note and not even going for that same note every night. He didn't miss the note, he didn't even try to go up to the note on the recording. I'm sure on other nights of that tour, he did go for and hit the same note as on the recording. I've still never heard him hit a BAD note, but have heard him not go to the original note at different times. It's called knowing your voice on that particular night, and not trying something that you know you won't pull off.

We should ask Jeremey about this. I'm sure he knows all about the night to night grind of singing those songs. I've never actually heard Jeremey have to duck a note(which just shows how friggin' incredible the guy is), but I'll bet he occasionally has to adjust for that night.

Jeremey? Set us straight, sir.

Just keep in mind, Arnel would be crucified for not trying to hit the original note.

Just keep in mind that Perry did how many GD shows in how many nights so I think he has EARNED the right of an off note here and there

Maybe, but it's not HIS song. He's expected to try and make it sound as close to the reord as possible. Of course he wouldn't ever not hit that note because he really isn't able to even sing that song. I've never heard him do it, only Deen. Maybe he has sung it, but I've never heard it.

Just keep in mind, hunny, it was only 1983. He still had 'the voice', it wasn't 1996, or even 1986 for that matter.

That's true Portland, but again, that wasn't an off note at all. He just didn't go for the original note. The note he hit was spot on, like always with him, and he even played around with that note doing one of his little signature mini-runs on it.

Not a bad note, just not the same note as on the record. That's called being a professional and knowing what you're doing. I'm sure he hit that original note most of the other times on that tour.

Wait a minute, I thought you said this was a boot from the ROR tour(1986)? Judging by the tempo, that's what I assumed it to be. Not that it matters, but let's get the year right.

It's not from the ROR tour. It's from Philadelphia, 1983.

I'd settle on seeing just Steve Perry sing it live on a solo tour. I don't want to watch Neal and Jon exchange glances like they were at the 1991 Bill Graham tribute.
