Paine was a deist.

A more devout believer in God and immortality never lived than Thomas Paine. In no other works are the terms God and Creator used more frequently, or in a more reverential manner, than in his. In his "Age of Reason," the work that brought down upon his devoted head the wrath of almost the entire Christian priesthood, the recognition of a Supreme Being is made, more than two hundred times.

On the first page of this book appears his creed, and his creed begins with these words:

"I believe in one God, and no more; and I hope for happiness beyond this life."

In summing up his arguments in the first part of this work, he says:

"The moral duty of man consists in imitating the moral goodness and beneficence of God manifested in the creation toward all his creatures. That seeing, as we daily do, the goodness of God to all men, it is an example calling upon all men to practice the same toward each other."

A concluding paragraph of the second part reads as follows:

"Were man impressed as fully and as strongly as he ought to be with the belief of a God, his moral life would be regulated by the force of that belief; he would stand in awe of God and of himself, and would not do the thing that could not be concealed from either. ... This is Deism."

So what's the point??? In the past, liberals claimed big business supported Republicans. Now they're claiming they support Democrats? Can we get the story straight?

Not changing that thinking at all. It's an article saying that certain big CEO's think Obama's economic effort is good, that's all.

The economy is already turning around. Can you second term already? LOL, you fuckers have 7.5 more years to bitch and moan.

Love it!

+1
I also wish people would try to keep the discussion to the issues and leave out the personal attacking when someone doesn't agree with them. If someone can't debate the issue at hand and make a case for their stance then they shouldn't enter into it. It would also be cool if more would concede on a point made when they can't come up with a contention rather then to just use the tactic of attacking the individual to sway away from the issue.

The economy is turning around and I believe it will rebound further but only temporarily. It'll crash again before the end of Obama's term. Then we'll elect a new President who will be probably just as bad or close to it.

Just as bad?

Obama is doing a fine job. He is tackling critical issues that should have been tackled a long time ago.

Regulatory banking, climate protection, health care, Sotomayor....I am happy so far.

Not biased to you, they say what you want to hear.

This is no different than if Fox News did a story featuring CEO's that think Obama is leading us straight to hell.

Point is the story means nothing right now.

You libs dumped on Bush, and rightly so, for adding major financial burdens on the country by drastically increasing the debt AND deficit. Obama has been far worse. The debt on the books and all the unfunded liabilities have been so drastically increased in the last few months that there is now no way we'll ever get out of it without some major financial pain being experienced in this country.

Not your ass that's for sure. :D

That is the projected cumulative debt projections, assuming all the spending that is proposed gets passed.

...and assuming 2 terms for Obama.

This whole healthcare issue so beyond partisan politics. This will impact every single American. Just because "your guy" is pushing for it doesn't mean it's good for you!

Want to cover the uninsured? Fine. Go ahead. Can the rest of the majority who are satisifed with their health care be left out of it? Does anyone think Chris Dodd will be on his way to the UK or Canada to get treatment for his prostate cancer?

My next door neighbor is a Canadian National who is applying for citizenship here. She also happens to be a nurse and tells horror stories about rationing and waiting periods for healthcare there. She simply can't understand why we would even consider nationalizing our healthcare system.

Many of the smaller towns in Canada actually have a lottery system because there are not enough doctors. There is not as much incentive in a government-run healthcare system that make it lucrative enough to attract the number of doctors that are necessary.

Bush did not come to office facing The Great Depression Part 2.
When he did face a crisis of apocalyptic doomsday scale (i.e. 9-11), I know most of the country, regardless of political stripe, wished him the best.
The Repubs have done nothing but wish Obama failure, literally.
If you think doing nothing is the reasonable choice, I ask once more, why did unemployment soar into the 20s and 30s during the banking panics of the 1800s and 1900s - pre-dating any policy of gov't intervention into the economy?

This is true, however, if we faced another similar situation the same would happen for Obama. If we got hit again, his speech would be listened to without a peep in my home, and his picture would be up on my wall immediately. Thats how America is, we rally behind that stuff.

You're the bigot, and have already been exposed on here passing off Sotomayor's quotes out of context.
The "wise Latina woman" line is 100% accurate.
You don't think a black justice or, say, an Indian justice, would have reached better decisions when it came to Plessy v. Ferguson or The Marshall Trilogy?
