That's right... official body guard for celebrities!!

Postby G.I.Jim » Sat Aug 08, 2009 6:07 am

  I had a very interesting day today and I thought I would share it. I worked at a community event all day today (my day started at 3 am! ), and I was a body guard for Brian Mcknight, and a couple other R&B artists. They had an autograph signing event today here in Columbia, and I had to help out. I was there with the Army National Guard today, as we were the official sponsors for the event. It was pretty cool, and I had to escort Brian thru the building, and out to his limo with his brother and publicist. I guess I got picked because I was the biggest guy there!

I do have to say this though... Brian is an ASSHOLE!!!  I had to stand right next to him most of the time he was here, and he wouldn't even crack a smile at the people he was signing stuff for. He was an hour and a half late getting there, and just acted disgusted to be there. We all put our pants on the same way Brian..

When I got them to the limo, he never even spoke to me. His brother was cool though, and he shook my hand and thanked me. It was a cool day overall though, and I'm glad it's finally OVER!!! :D Well... Just thought I'd share.

He's a singer/musician/songwriter. Here's my favorite song of his...

Dude needs to hang out with JSS or EM......and take notes. :) Sounds like an ass. Kinda why I have no desire to meet any other favorite vocalists, not even JBJ. Odds are they just aren't going to measure up to those 3.....no thanks. Would have been a huge disappointment if when meeting Perry I found he was a complete ass.....no matter the stellar voice, probably would have turned me off his music altogether.

Here's probably his most famous song I can think about. It's with Vanessa Williams, and it's called "Love Is". Here it is...

Here's "Whenever You Call" with Mariah Carey...

Here he is playing for Michael Jackson's Birthday party in 2003...

Oh that dude.........I like Love is........but he doesn't stand out on his own. I think of Vannessa Williams when I think of that song. Save the Best for Last was my favorite of hers...........It well describes Dan and my relationship. She has a lovely voice. The other dude is back up to me. Sorry.

Ha ha Deb!  Where's BJG to set you straight on NKOTB?

I'm pretty sure there was a McKnight in the NKOTB somewhere, probably not a Brian though?

And I'm changing my post above. There is one other vocalist I'd love to meet.......Michael Sweet. Stunning vocalist, and I get the impression he would probably be a pretty stellar human being too. :)

Maybe we just caught him on a bad day. Either that, or he just puts on a show for the crowds. He really was a jerk to everyone today, and I was really surprised! You'd think he would love having all of the fan support he does. Oh well, it was still a fun day.

I just remembered a more recent hit that he had that was pretty huge! Here's "Back At One". It is a pretty cool song. I'm not normally into R&B, but he is very talented. Here it is...

Hey now!

And what? Not normally into R&B? -1! If done by the right vocalist, it's great stuff, I think I love it cuz you get so much more vocal inflections......which is pretty sweet for us vocalpipe lovers! No better instrument my friend! :) Sorry, I know you're a keys guy.

Believe it or not, I'm really more into harmonies and vocals, than I am keys. My dad was a singer in a barbershop quartet when I was a kid, and I've always been fascinated with backing vocals. Years ago, I recorded a version of me singing "True Colors" acapella (know I'm spelling that wrong...). It had 12 layers of vocals, and just some finger snaps to keep the tempo. It was very similar to what Phil Collins did with it. I LOVE that stuff. I deleted the song though, when I sold that digital recorder, and I forgot to save a copy of it. :(

Here's another cool song I LOVE, and I like what Boyz 2 Men did with it. Here's "Hard To Say I'm Sorry".

No, just had to keep a crowd of several hundred from getting too close to him. They were ALL up in my grill too!  It was hot in there, and there were some pretty stank people all up on me today. One of them was onviously a homeless guy. I felt bad for him, and I actually took his picture with Brian. He was extremely happy, and I thought it was cool.

I did have to keep a couple of guys from approaching him while we were enroute to the limo too. They were trying to push themselves off on him as undiscovered R&B artists.

Speaking of "ass kicking", do you have any juicy stories that you can share about having to use your skills?? Or have you already talked about that in another thread?
