Proud To Be A Loon

Postby Laydee » Tue Aug 11, 2009 1:43 am

Yes, I'm proud to be a Perry Loon. There I said it and with great honor. I have spent many hours building my tribute to the greatest singer of all time. It is a celebration of his amazing career both with Journey and as a solo artist. The man's voice could tame a wild lion. He is and forever will be "The Voice"..... and it's just a bonus that he still has looks that drive women crazy! 8) 8) 8)

I resemble that remark. I am equally proud to be a loon, spoon, what ever they want to call us.

I'm a loon. I'm a loon. Always have been and have only felt pity for any vocalist who tried to fill Perry's shoes.

So why do they call us loons again. Let me see, he is charming, good looking, hot, and has THE most gorgeous eyes I have ever seen. He has an amazing voice that seems to calm you down when you need it. And women do swoon over that man, and his smile melts hearts and did I mention HOT? So seeing that we like this man because of all of the above we are considered crazy as loons??? So I guess when we look at any man on the street that might have the same, are we still loons? I am just asking. WE ARE NOT LOONS LADIES! We just have great taste.

I think "Loon" means Lunatic, a name given to women who fawn over Perry in what some MR members feel is inappropriate.
Perry himself seems uncomfortable with women focusing attention on his physical looks. To the extent that "loons" talk about his person, makes others nervous for him and his safety.

I think we can all agree that his long Raven silky hair is something to talk about because there aren't many men with a head of hair like that.
The fact that he isn't married doesn't make a bit of difference, because even if he was married, women would still find him attractive and want to talk about his looks.
His voice does have soothing qualities to it and is unlike any other voice ever heard, except maybe Sam Cooke's voice. Imitators just can't match it, even if some people think they come close.

Categorizing ones self as a "Perry Loon" is accepting that title that other MR members have placed upon us. I for one do not feel that I'm a "lunatic" for thinking the world of Steve Perry.
After reading everything available on the internet about Steve Perry, and watching all the youtube videos of interviews he has given, I have come to a conclusion about Steve Perry.

He is a VERY special man, he has a heart of gold, he has a keen sense of humor, he loves deeply and never forgets, he misses his mother, grandfather, and other family members that supported him so dearly, he is a perfectionist (meaning he cares deeply about the quality of what he produces), he is hurt by criticism and fearful of it, he is an old fashioned gentleman, he is kind, soft spoken, private, a work-a-holic with many interests, fiscally conservative, he is extremely intelligent and a good business man, he loves to laugh, he likes women who make him laugh, and of course, he has physical qualities even at 60 that drive women wild. :) There isn't a women alive that wouldn't want to meet a man like this! So, when we are accused of "fawning" over Perry, we are simply appreciating what a very special person he is for all the reasons stated. :)

Carry on.

Okay my dear friend, point taken.....and I so do agree with you. But I have to say one thing here..... we have been labeled "Loons" and that term will continue to follow us where ever we go on the internet. I have fought against that term forever it seems and so I finally gave in to it. If I'm a "Lunatic" just because I like Steve Perry.... then fine! Let them think what they want to. I know I have a perfectly healthy obsession with the man and so do most of you here on this board and for the thousands of people who visits my site week after week. If I'm a lunatic then give me my "crazy papers" and I'll be on my way. Personally though I think there is a difference between what constitutes "Loonacy" and "stalker". And there are many I know that I would put in the latter of the two. But then this is just my opinion. :D :D :D

I'm seeing a lot of denial here, ladies. Not healthy, not healthy at all.

Unless you can agree with me that ROR and FTLOSM are the worse albums in the Perry canon, you are a loons to the core.

Personally I have my heart into Escape, Frontiers and TBF. ROR was good and Strange Medicine was inspirational, but like I said The first 3 I get into alot. I do have ROR and FTLOSM, but I listen to the others more.

New to the site,I actually found it while looking for some CD information, and ended up spending a couple of hours reading all of the posts. I have been a Journey fan for a long time, but even more so of Steve Perry. I probably won't be posting a whole lot,but wanted to write down something I had been thinking about while reading the board (it may be kinda long).

I have always loved music of all kinds, but never was particularly interested in the workings of the industry,or following/keeping up with a bands history. Where Journey/Steve Perry are concerned,I have always loved their music, but for several years only owned 3 cassette tapes. Escape,Street Talk, and a tape of misc Journey songs a friend recorded for me to listen to (high school/college students are poor). Never went to a concert, had posters hanging on my walls,or collected anything related to Journey at all. My current attachment to Journey/Steve Perry is related to the way their music now makes me feel when I hear it, and can be traced back to one single life experience.

October 1987 (the week of my 22nd birthday) I was attending my 2nd year at college, and had been dating my current boyfriend for 6 years (we will call him Mr. Wonderful for this tale). This particular week,he called me numerous times wanting me to come home for the weekend, but not to tell my family, instead to stay at his condo...it was to be "special" and "just for us". Sounded like a good idea to me (it was for my birthday after all) so I agreed, packed up my car,and drove home.

When I arrived in town,we decided to go to dinner and then to a movie after. Dinner was really nice, then we headed to the theater. We had just paid for tickets and were waiting in the lobby for the show to start. I am telling Mr. Wonderful something school related, when I notice his face now has this ashen color and the expression of "oh shit, now what?" written all over it. Next thing I know, he runs out the front doors after a blond and leaves me standing there in total disbelief. I walk outside, but he is nowhere to be found at this point,so I wait...35 minutes later...still waiting. I finally decide to just walk home (my parents house is not that far away).

Walking home (in the dark) I am now trying to figure out how I am going to explain this to my family, who think I am still at school. Mr. Wonderful suddenly drives up and makes me get in the car, he is not happy either (he is actually mad because I didn't wait for him to come back..is he kidding...apparently not... he is now yelling!). Long story short..the blond, he met while I was away at school the previous semester. They are now engaged ( it was supposed to be a secret that they were going to "save" and share with everyone at Christmas..wth??). I am also noticing that he has not even attempted an apology for any of this unbelievable bull crap yet either...nope...he actually wants me to be happy for him, since I am (apparently within the last 45 minutes or so) now demoted to the status of "his best friend". I am really wanting to punch him in the face...I don't...really really want to though...especially when I hear his next line "I fell in love with her, because she reminded me so much of you..except..." followed by a laundry list of all the reasons she is apparently better.

After we get back to the condo,I head straight to my car (don't even go inside and pack up my things). Yep...drove all the way back to school that very night, bawling my brains out and blaring Journey music on my stereo. Lovin Touchin Squeezin,Patiently,Stay Awhile,Somethin To Hide etc..over and over the whole way back..and for several days after too. Steve Perry/Journey on the stereo, a couple cartons of ice cream w/ M&M's on top, and many bubble bath's later... I finally came to the conclusion that I would actually be okay (hopefully a lot wiser in the future though). Over the years, other relationships, assorted heartaches and pains have come/gone,but one thing has always remained the same..from that point on,whenever I need mental encouragement, an emotional hug or even when I am happy because I have just received good news.. Steve Perry/Journey will always be playing on my stereo.

Being a Libra I tend to use music to create emotional balance in my everyday life (can't stand inner turmoil and high emotion..gotta have peace and harmony). I'm also highly sentimental, fanciful and romantic,so once any portion of that side of me is sparked, I tend to be drawn back to the trigger often...in this case, Journey with Steve Perry singing. Am I attracted to Steve Perry? Definitely..his voice sooths and calms (as a person who seeks to maintain that peaceful state of mind.. it's pure heaven) plus, he is very handsome..just look at him. Does my face light up with a dopey grin whenever I hear or read an interview he has given? You bet..always! I really admire the analytical, expressive and playfulness of his personality....I tend to be more of a slightly introverted observer (plus, his laugh is really contagious). Yep..I admit it.. I'm attached to Steve, his beautiful voice and songwriting (can't help it either,so I don't even try to fight it). It will always be a big part of who I am and I don't consider it "loony" either.

I read a quote once (not sure who originally said it ) but when I saw it I immediately thought that it sums up exactly why I feel the way I do quite well, and it also happens to be the moral to my long story (you knew that was coming ..right?). Steve Perry has taught me,through his music, the following lesson... " Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, It's about learning to dance in the rain".

Welcome to MR BlueGin. Nice post. The music of Journey and Steve Perry have also helped me get though some tough times. For that I'll be forever grateful. There is just something about Steve's voice and expressive delivery that connects with me emotionally. :D

Kinda along those lines.....I had a friend at the time who told me "don't waste energy dwelling on the why's...some people are just assholes,no matter how much you care about them." And "sometimes the lesson to be learned is not intended for you".
