Buying a video does NOT mean it is your "private property". You own the disc itself, not the content.

Can I purchase a copy of "The Shining"? Yes.
Can I post the content within the book online and tell people it's "mine"? Uh.... no! DUH!
This is the same thing.

This should not have ever stopped us normal folks from sharing these things, because this is something we all enjoy and have in common, but unfortunately, it stopped most people from doing so just because everyone got sick of the drama and childish b.s. And I can't blame folks for that either. But what should have happened was that everyone who ran into this problem just said "screw you" and continued sharing things.

 Never stopped me from sharing, I've got tons of footage, a couple clips even K didn't have, I just never knew how to crop clips out and post them on youtube. But thanks to Rickster's guidance and directions I've been putting stuff up and plan on putting more up. :) Yep, he's created a monster!

She began spamming my YouTube inbox with threats, saying that she will "sue me", she will have me "arrested", she will post the entire content of my book on the Internet...LOL, good material for her mental issues medical records.
But she just went on and on until I was sick to go there and find that cockroach in my kitchen. So I closed the kitchen (semi-pun intended lol)

I'm just glad that Mariet continued sharing so much incredible footage on Youtube.

As for Kathy and her vile ways of robbing people, I think the Feds should send her a postcard with her future condo and her new roomate, Bubba.

That whole thing with the videos and the pictures, if anyone owns them (and I am sure all of you would agree with me)is SP, their his pix and his likeness. I really don't get the idea that she owned the pix, she actually stamped Property of Perryville on pix that I already found online. Well there was a riot over that too. Steve Perry owns those pix. Like I said you will agree with me.

I don't agree with you that all pictures of Perry are "HIS" simply because it is his likeness. Any person who takes a picture of Perry with their own camera in a public place owns that picture. That's why there are so many papparazi trying to get these pictures of celebrities because if THEY take the picture, it is their property. I'm not supporting Kathy in any way, but if her argument was that SHE took the picture and someone stole the picture from her and posted it on their own website, then she has a point. It sounds like she took stuff off the internet and then claimed it as her own even though she didn't make the video or take the picture. That's ridiculous. It's really rude however, for someone to take someone else's pictures and post them on their website without even asking permission to do so from the person who owns that photograph. If you know what I mean. :P

Not sure how many years ago it was but Herbie sold all of his Journey stuff at an auction. I did see the notice after the auction as it was still on line at the time. It was at this auction that Kathy brought alot of stuff and alot of pictures & negatives. Because she now had the pictures & negatives she owned the picture. According to her, she now had copyrights. I don't know if she paid money for the copyrights. But according to her, she had the rights.

To me it's not really about who has what picture and who can claim ownership of what likeness; it's about competitiveness. It's about one site or person having a picture another site or person doesn't have. It doesn't seem to matter where you got the picture; but that you have it and another person doesn't have it. This can be applied to videos or anything having to do with the artist. Sheer lunacy! It's being able to claim you have a little bit of the artist another person does not have. It helps you claim the right to be known as having the best site on the Internet! Again...lunacy but I think it's true along with being ridiculous!

That's not really the way it works. Some are owned by SP, yes... you'll see credits in the reissue books that say something like "page 14, 15, 19 - courtesy of Steve Perry Archives" or something, but with the others, the photographer or source is properly credited. He may own certain ones, for whatever reason, (obtained rights, or however it works...) but no, probably most are not.

My brother-in-law photographed Journey in 1981 (and Rush, and a few others I believe) when he worked for the U of I paper, and therefore HE owns the photos (or negatives or whatever), not Journey or Perry or anyone else. (or maybe Kathy owns them... I should ask my bro. "You sure you own those? They have Perry on them so they are probably Property of PV!" )

Well, I have about 5000 Perry pics on my site, but I do not claim the copyrights to any of them. The ones I found online are clearly marked with the link to where they came from. And I asked if I could use them before doing so. I also have a Fan Appreciation page where readers can submit their photos and I give them credit. The photos I had up that caused a problem with Kathy I did take down. Not because of her nasty emails, but for the simple fact that I did not know who they belonged to. They were donated to the site and Kathy claimed them. I want to be fair about it. And yes on our website we do claim to have the largest collection of Steve Perry pics on any one site. But there is nothing new. They have been on the internet for years. I just took the time to put them all in one place. As far as these "new" Perry pics that are surfacing.... like the ones at the airport. I don't publish those. I feel they are taken without his permission and out of respect we do not post those. I just thought that if I were Perry I wouldn't want them out there. Some that have surfaced this year are just not flattering to the man and you can tell when he's not aware they are being taken.

Pfft. Put it back up. Why shouldn't you? If the true owner comes forth and can prove he or she owns it, and expresses a problem about you having it up, (which I don't expect to happen), then do the right thing and remove it. As many people in this topic have said, she claims everything and anything Steve Perry. Doesn't make it true.

Post it here too. I wanna see what pic we're talking about.

I used to do a weekly picture thread on PV. Some of the pics I used I actually scanned myself, from old Japanese magazines and purchased pics and some screen caps I did myself. I never put any stamp or anything on them.....didn't care, just wanted to share. Have seen my caps and pics used in song videos on youtube, etc. since, still don't care. Unless it is a picture I actually took, then I have just put my initials in the corner of the pic. I have never understood the freakout about pics and videos. If you don't want people to see or save them, don't put them on the net???? There was some great pics of SP taken that WOF meet day.....and IMO should be shared for other fans to enjoy too. I can fully see people may want to keep private their pics with him and I'd never post a pic of a fan without their permission. I'll see if I can post a few of SP from that day. :)

I agree, if you don't want people to take your pictures off the net, then don't put them out there. I knew the pics I have from WOF was from when the girls from PV went out there. I only have pics of Steve, no one else are in these photos. It was to my understanding that there were several people taking and posting these pics. Not just Kathy. But I figured, what the hell, take them down and she'll shut up. I only had like 10 photos. It was no big deal. Now, I have ran into people who have asked me to take a photo or two down before after they claimed they were being used without permission. But then again, I get emails almost every week of people wanting their personal pics of Perry up. Usually I will publish them. There's a few I've seen that I won't touch.

Well I had a few arguments with Kathy that scanning =/= copyright ownership. Honestly that seemed to be the argument... scanning is hard work and therefore I own the pictures? As for her buying negatives from the Herbie auction, I know that a good amount of the watermarked pics were lent to her by someone else, the person I mentioned earlier in this thread that was going to sell them to me until she was "warned" about me.

I've seen a few that were just a serious pain in the ass to navigate... one had pictures of Perry as the quote/edit/reply buttons and it was an ugly messy nightmare. That is just TOO loony and weird for me. I don't want to have to hover over stuff and HOPE there's a tag to try and figure out what to click (not that I would participate in a site with that level of craziness  but still...) I mean jeez, like the guy and think he's cute if you must, but leave the buttons ALONE. Not everything has to have a Perry face on it. NO ONE is THAT damn cute that every single button needs to be a pic.

Back in 2001 when the site was not getting much action at PV I suggested that we do a pic of the day and she thought it was great and after I did it there everyone else sorta followed suit. She was always thrill happy if I got or found one she didn't have. She had to control everything Steve Perry and it didn't matter what it was. A year or two later I remember one time a member did drawings of celebrities and musical celebrities and she would do them on note cards and some members were like hey where can I get a Steve note card like that and the person would say for this much I'll make a set for you. Well when she found out this was going on she demanded a cut of sales and when the person said no way they are contacting me personally she banned her ass so fast. I have always believed in sharing anything I got on Steve or Journey pics especially because I wanted people to get the same enjoyment as I did when I got them and saw them for the first time.

Thank you. I tried to make it a "mature" site, easy to find things in. Easy to navigate. I have been told I have gone overboard with the photos, and maybe I have but it was fun to put together. (I am now working on a Jon Bon Jovi site), but I just don't have the same passion as I do for Perry. Here is a photo I was sent last week. This one blew me away. It's a mosaic that this woman took over 3000 pics to make. She is gonna donate one as a prize for one of our contests that we hold every other month.

I've seen that... the artist of that was trying to get it to perry, I believe. She was posting on another site about going to the hollywood star and hoping to see him there or something like that. Didn't happen of course, but it's nice that she wants to donate it for your site. It's a great looking mosaic!!

*Laura is right. I did share what I had of Perry/Journey audio/video with her. I have shared with others. That is the way it should be. Kathy cannot claim any ownership of any video of Perry/Journey that is out there for free on the net. (She didn't do the filming of any videos out there, so her claim is bogus). Kathy also claimed to be the only one who had this "rare" video of Steve's face close up during the filming of "Any Way You Want It". Later on, when I honed my skills at finding all sorts of videos/audio, I found out that she was full of shite! ( She told me never, ever, share it with anyone, and if I did, she would know who it was that shared it).

I never, ever, bought into any of the stuff she "sold" or "Auctioned off " for MAW. I found her prices very high and ridiculous! I don't doubt for one minute she pocketed most, if not all, the money that was sent to her.

As for Lora getting banned... I do recall that there was a bit of fighting on the board after the Perryville get together. I wasn't privy to what was going on.... but there was alot of anger and hurt feelings... and all Kathy did was play the victim in all of it. She was the one being piled on, she was getting her feelings hurt. But not once did she ever admit that SHE was the one giving her members grief... Some did leave after all the shite that went down. So she closed the board shortly after that. I never went back. What was the most insufferable was the constant calling Kathy "Queen" since supposedly Steve called her that. I wasn't there, so I don't know if he did or not. ( I just can't see him calling her that! :? )

Kathy, from my perspective, is a control freak and she needs to be at the center of attention at all times... Everything is me, me, me, and what is owed to me. ... I do wonder if there is something lacking in her personal life that makes her who she is online. She will always need a group that will bow to her, and she will use Perry, or whomever else, to get that. She will not be gone for long...

And as for Kathy using Steve's name and image on stuff for her "auctions", I wholeheartedly believe Kathy owes Steve alot of money! :D

I remember you from PV Clasicrockldy. I was on PV at the time you are speaking about. It was pretty messy to say the least. I never saw Kathy as the Queen and thought the ones who did post that may not have all of their bricks to finish their walls. When Kathy closed the forum down at that time. The poster who were there demanded that Kathy help them set up another site where they all could go to post on since PV wasn't anymore. I had never seen anything like that before. The one's who are friends off forum are emailing each other and have found a new home. So I don't think Kathy will have very many members if she decides to open another forum.

Deb wrote:I used to do a weekly picture thread on PV. :)

Are you shitting me? What a friggin' tyrant.

Nope not shitting ya....LOL She wanted a cut in her sales.

There is a part truth to that "Queen" But NOT what Kathy say's .....I was there and we were taking individual pictures KAthy was the last to go up. Steve used the word Queen refering to Kathy as the webmistress of the PV site and that was all......He did not say "MY QUEEN" to her at anytime.....He did make refrence to her being the Queen of the site because it was her site........ Maybe in the back of his mind he was really thinking "Queen Shit of Terd Island"  Gosh did I really write that :?: :?: Yep I did
