"One More Time"

Postby Jeremey » Fri Aug 14, 2009 5:25 am

Stephen (Frontiers guitarist) and myself have worked this up for a future Frontiers show. Since he'll be in Roanoke tonight before we leave in the morning, maybe I can convince him to demo a little piece for our website before we go. This is one of my all time favorites, though it's sooo melancholy. I remember hearing it back in 1994 and just feeling sad for all the things it seemed like Steve Perry had missed out on in his life, and the regrets he seemingly conveyed in that tune.

Thanks for posting! We did do a little verse of the tune, which is on my mac at home. If I can get it online I'll share it this week. What actually ended up happening was quite more productive, though, as we wrote and demo'd a pretty complete original tune, albeit with nonsense lyrics for the melody. That will be something cool when we finish that up!

That's just when trying to get a melody down, you're going to be singing stream of conscious type stuff, which will be replaced later with actual words that make sense!

Although many, many times you'll get a few gems out of that nonsense stuff that will be polished up a bit and may end up in the finished song.

Okay, be gentle, as you have gone and posted something that can never be touched there on that YouTube clip!!

Anyway, this was just Stephen and I messing around with the song...As I said, we moved onto an original tune after not getting much further than the first verse....And the quality isn't that great. But we should start playing this tune at some of the "big" shows this fall.

Oh yeah....We also did a reggae version of "Lights" which will never be heard!

Anyway, you can find the OMT demo on our reverb nation page at www.reverbnation.com/journeytributeband and it's in the playlist section of the page. Hope you like it!

Jeremey, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to take anything away from your clip. I've never heard you sing before.
So, I went to the link for a listen. OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm blown away at how you sing those Journey songs.
From time to time I saw posts on MR about Frontiers, but never really ventured into reading too much. I'm so
glad that I got curious enough this time, to finally check you out. You are AMAZING! That's coming from a true
blue Perry fan. I cannot imagine why Journey would pick Arnel when you have that voice! WTF? You even
look a little like Perry does now, and that is a compliment. Your voice sounds so much like Perry, it's uncanny. I never
thought I would be able to say that about any tribute singer, but I'm very impressed.
Thanks for posting the link. I'm definitely one of your fans now! :D

Wow. That's friggin' amazing, Jeremey.

Not sure how you feel about it, but when I listen to Journey now, it actually pisses me off that you aren't the lead singer of that band. It would have been the perfect fit.

Hopefully it all worked out for the better for you. You can definetely sing your ass off.
I've GOT to see you guys live sometime. Don't know if it matters to you, but I plan on seeing you guys way before I'd see Journey.

Well thanks a bunch for taking a listen to it! As I mentioned, we'll be doing this somewhere in the Frontiers repetoire sometime in the next couple of months (when we are not playing for college kids who want to hear uh...ONE song and ONE particular song only), so hope to see some of you out there on the road. It's always been one of my favorites, and I'm excited about doing that one live.

Goodness Jeremey you really do justice to the tune! You are as close as close can be.
Artist are such strange characters which we as fans like to dissect over and over again until they fit into the character we'd like them to be; I think your voice is changing a bit and so is your precious heart. Don't get lost! You have a glorious gift!

Yah..it's amazing just how good JH can sing, and the only on going fault(s) that my ears hear is the "Cher effect" and "granny vibrato", if he could turn down that strong vibrato his voice would sound much more youthful. Everytime I hear that vibrato, it just makes me think of the "vegas / show tune" voice too much. But you correct those two issues and I honestly feel he has one of the best voices I've heard in my lifetime.

Well then I guess you're saying the same thing about SP, because Jeremey's vibrato is almost exactly like Perry's.

I think you're 100% WRONG about your theory, but if you do think it, you're saying it about SP also.

The biggest differences between JH and SP's vibrato is "depth". Both have similar speeds, but JH's "depth" is wayyyyy too much. Plus JH sometimes uses it on every word in a phrase and it should only be used on the end of a phrase. But again, that doesn't bother me as much as the depth. If/when I have time perhaps I'll splice together some audio of JH/SP to better illustrate my point.

Jeremey, you've been getting a lot of bad press here at MR lately & so I wasn't even going to bother clicking on your link & listening to your music, but I did anyway & OMG I can't believe what I just heard. You have a fantastic voice, bro!!!! I have nothing against Arnel b/c he is talented in his own right, but Neal must have been crazy to pass up the opportunity of signing you. That's saying a lot coming from ME b/c Neal is like a God to me. I love the guy but he was so, SO wrong about letting you get away. I don't know anything about your history or any drama that's been played out on this board, but, Jeremey, one thing is for sure: Your voice is awesome, dude!!!!

Wow, just checking in while on the road this week. Nice compliments, and they are much appreciated. Thanks so much, and TNFA, I do appreciate it; I'm not too dialed in on changing up my voice or my vibrato, but there is a character to all voices that makes it uniquely what it is, and despite the similarities to Perry and myself, there's always going to be those elements that comprise my voice that are unique....I can't change that much what God gave me, but I understand your point, and appreciate the compliment.

Jason, thanks for checking it out. The "bad press" on this board has nothing to do with who I am as a person or as a singer - It's only an online identity that few know who I am, have met me, or spent any time with me, although I live and breathe Journey music nearly every day of my life. My opinion is that I'm an easy target, and I guess anyone can have an agenda or a reason to get bent out of shape, but I do respond to outright jabs, I can be mean, irreverent, and nasty as anyone else on this board, and I will stand up for myself, though some think I should be held to a higher standard. Regardless, it's only music, and as I've said many times before, those that would prevent themselves from enjoying our presentation of these songs due to something completely unrelated to who I am or what I do are just missing out.

Regardless, thanks to all for clicking the link, and be sure to check out the live version if we come anywhere close!

Have a great weekend,
J
