RIP Les Paul

NEW YORK - Les Paul, the guitarist and inventor who changed the course of music with the electric guitar and multitrack recording and had a string of hits, many with wife Mary Ford, died on Thursday. He was 94.

According to Gibson Guitar, Paul died of complications from pneumonia at White Plains Hospital. His family and friends were by his side.

As an inventor, Paul helped bring about the rise of rock ’n’ roll and multitrack recording, which enables artists to record different instruments at different times, sing harmony with themselves, and then carefully balance the “tracks” in the finished recording.

A true legend in every respect. I just saw him in November 07! Guy was still incredible. Yet another in the long list... 2009 has been a bad year for deaths

I think there was video somewhere of Neal Schon playing with Les Paul at a NYC club during the Arrival sessions. It was like on a Sunday or Monday where LP would have people sit in with him and then present them with a personal guitar as a gift.

It was fairly impressive.

Such sad news. He was a true pioneer. In my vocabulary "Les Paul" became the word for "guitar".

RIP.

Hey dude, that is cool, but I have one question for you. A recent poll of North Carolinians were asked about Obama's birth certificate, and 7% said that Hawaii was not part of the United States. I used to think NC was the new hip cool state to move to, but Jesus Christ, 7% of you folks don't know Hawaii is a state?

Man, the fuckin South is embarrassing.

It's not? I can see maybe .05%, but 7%?! What is NC, 9 million? so 7% of 9 million is what, 63,000 folks? Still think that's not very much, lol? Goddammit, this country is so fucked going into the future.

We wouldn't hear most of our favorite music the way we do today without old Lester Pulvas.

Hey fuckhead, you have any idea what a pioneer Les Paul was? Invented so many guitar features and also invented the multi track recorder.

Fucking douches like you need to drive into a tree on your way home from metal practice. Metal, LOL. Dude, give me an out of tune guitar, an amp set at 10, and a butter knife and I can play speed metal.

Geez I would give my eye teeth to own a Les Paul. I have a humble fender stratocaster........left handed. But I don't get anyone putting these masterfully made guitars down........ What planet is he from?

Could be wrong but I think MR was trying to say, "We wouldn't hear most of our favorite music... without old L.P. Would a metal fan (redneck or not) wanna bash LP for inventing the solid body?

Anyway for those of you that subscribe to Netflix, they're featuring an instant watch rocumentary on him called "Chasing Sound". Pretty good show.

If that is all MR was saying, then have him clear it up a bit. I looked up pulvus: it is latin I beleive for dust? am I correct?

Hey a4p, I know you're a teacher (art) but have you forgotten your misspellings already? Should I go back and find some for you?

I know, I know, all that'll get me is another cat attack and I really don't want to litter Les Paul's RIP thread with those. But in honor of Mr. Paul, I'll link a tune you'll enjoy.

The documentary I mentioned earlier was excellent. Appearances by Jeff Beck, EVH, Chet Atkins, Keith Richards and many others.

I remember reading a story of how he saw Jimi Hendrix playing in some dive in the south before he hit it big. They were on a tight schedule to some meeting so couldn't stick around to talk to him but went back a few days later to find him. Jimi was gone with no forwarding address and the next time Les saw him was on the cover of an album.

RIP Les.
