Perhaps I'm not very creative, but my all time Perry/Journey favorite video is still Escape. This version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzxTwXgZeBA

I love the energy in that video. They all come together so well just like a band should be. Smitty rocks those drums. Schon grinds like the mad man we all know him to be. Cain & Valory pull it all together keeping pace & so to me, that is what makes this their best ever video performance. Sorry the video I linked is not of the best quality. I tried to find a better copy, but nothing compares to watching the actual DVD on my big screen --- other than having the good fortune of being there in person, that is.

Portland, you didn't post yours. What's YOUR favorite?

I will have to think later about performances. So I will discuss off Journey albums right now, not solo. I did this last year and can't remember. It changes.

No particular order off CDs:

Lights
Stay Awhile
I'm Cryin'
Faithfully
Why Can't This Night Go On Forever
Still They Ride
Mother Father

Performances:

Mother Father - one of my favorites live by him.

Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'
1994 Live From Atlanta ~ Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin' (FTLOSM Tour)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZ8UCr1Nuao

I like the way this particular version starts out. As for the song it's self, It takes me back to my first husband. The was doing the wild thing with every bar fly he could find. I can relate to the words in this song. Back in the day, when it first came out, I liked it, then when I found out about my hubby's cheating ways, I would play this song over and over.

Still They Ride
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tq_VWMhSmQ

We used to play this song blasting from the car as we would cruise up and down the main drag in the small town where I grew up. Smoking a doobie and jamming on journey. It was the life back then, memories remain!

Faithfully
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKorl7Ouht0

This song was just a beautiful ballad. It gives you hope of finding the one who will wait on you forever, which I have to this day to find.

Winds of March

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTKyTdkJ2p0

I would sing this one to my son who was born in '79. "You are my child, You make my lifetime big and bright, You are my child, You came like the winds of March, With all the love in your eyes, You are my child, You came like the morning lights
With all your love, in your eyes, You are my child, You came like the morning light, With all your love, in your eyes"

Lights/Stay Awhile

Live 1981 Houston - Escape Tour: This is my favorite version of this song because I was there. Even though I had really bad seats, I'll never forget that concert. It was my first Journey Concert and this song just makes me think of that incredible night and it makes me think of the band whenever I hear it.

"Still They Ride" ~ Budokan, 1983: Based on this singular performance, this Song should've been on the Frontiers album - IMO:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jubogiBaUhQ

"Open Arms" ~ Budokan, 1983: I personally like this because he took the Iconic 81 OA and put a "Dark Side" Spin to it...clearly, he was "moving on" from his established Sound.

And as a Singer ~ that's damn near IMPOSSIBLE:

From the Sam Cooke intro, to nailing the song's High note, to the big finish, this performance is A+.

1. I love Steve in "When you love a woman". I love the emotion he executes, his long raven hair and the way the band all sounded together for one of the last good performances as a "whole"

2. "Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin" because Steve sounds so good and looks so damn sexy!

3. Mother, Father," because it is so emotional....straight from the heart. This song pierces me to the heart as a mother and I cry almost every time I hear it.

4. "Only the Young" reminds me of days gone by when I was young and thought I was going to be that way forever

5. "Faithfully" One of the most beautiful ballads I've ever heard. I married for all the wrong reasons and it makes me wish I had someone who I loved and who truley loved me and honored me in return waiting for me......

Can I answer "All of them"?

The three that stick out in my mind are:

Mother, Father (Houston 81 Escape Video)
Winds of March (Houston 1980), no video that I know of (if anyone has it, please please please) :D
Patiently (Houston 1980)

These three performances are untouchable in my ears.

Is that the one where he hits all those high notes? Maybe I have Houston 80 and Comisky Park 79 mixed up. The one I have was played on the radio as a concert. That would be the same concert that he did Winds of March.

Yes , it is recorded from Japanese Television.

It only contains half of the songs from the show, but is still a good disc.

Ah, we seem to pick the same. :) My very favorite Journey song is "Still They Ride" and the performance at Budokan is just sooooo goooood!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jubogiBaUhQ

Before youtube came on the scene a few years ago I had been hoping/searching for a Live performance of this song...then someone sent me a copy of this & I just fell head over heels. It was just what I had been hoping for & it felt just like a personal valentine...especially when SP looks into the camera on "thru the night".

Also another very fave is the Cupid/IBAWY from the FTLOSM tour.

I also love the intimate Soundstage performances from 1978...the year when I first heard & fell for the music.

And, can't forget the awesome "Patiently" from '78 or '79 (I think from a radio show)...I can't find it on youtube!

"Mother/Father" from the 1981 concert in Houston isn't just Perry's best performance, EVER...It's the greatest live performance that I've ever seen by ANY singer! It's absolutely FLAWLESS! If you run into a Perry detractor, play the performance from that concert, and they'll be left speechless.
