Same Song, Different Artist

Postby Voyager » Sun Aug 16, 2009 12:20 pm

How about a list of songs that have been covered by another artist/band? I'll get it started with this one:

Big 10 Inch Record

Bull "Moose" Jackson: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r33hCQHokGg

Aerosmith: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBJ82fM3Xn8

Wow it's hard to find music videos with legit audio on YouTube anymore. Copyright nazis. Well obviously there are tons of covers but here's a few I like:

Smooth Criminal

MJ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WjOn5TNjBM
Alien Ant Farm (the video has a lot of MJ references) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYB_1pxP-ts

Beat It

MJ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uqxo1SKB0z8
Fall Out Boy ft John Mayer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSAhbBYBfaM

With A Little Help From My Friends

Beatles http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqOqwo1WuTg
Joe Cocker http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ekta6EKhb2g
He also did a great cover of Come Together for Across The Universe: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmq6OW2n0e0

Crazy

Seal http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QAq_FEkJQI
Alanis Morrisette http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea ... id=1169230

Boys of Summer

Don Henley http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vVAOrWUcrM
The Ataris http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=db6xHWEPTzo

in before someone posts The Fray's cover of Heartless. Horrible song.

Do we have to post YT links?

One of the worst covers of all time

Guns and Roses Sweet Child O Mine, covered by Sheryl Crow. Ugghhhh!!!

One of the best is the Johnny Cash cover mentioned here....

Tears for Fears did a pretty good cover of Radiohead's "Creep" for a while on tour

As far as Journey goes, I heard somewhere a great acoustic cover of Wheel In The Sky by Heart??

Johnny Cash's video is my favorite video of all time. Heart-wrenching, hard to watch. His daughter was interviewed and talked about how they had her view the video privately first b/c they knew how it hard it would be for her to see, and how it broke her heart b/c it hit so close to home. Her father was in very ill health. Her mother died unexpectedly a few months later.

Trent gave a cool interview on Johnny's version. I can't quite remember what he said, maybe that at first he wasn't sure, it was so different from his. But when he saw Johnny's video that he felt he owned the song.

I don't have words for this version - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVYTabWaSHI (warning, your childhood memories of the Muppets may be damaged by watching this)
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!
