Journey + Heart Indy State Fair

Postby cinkidd » Mon Aug 17, 2009 3:47 pm

Just got back from seeing Journey with Heart as the opening act.

This was my first time with AP as lead singer and I must say he nailed it. He was a ball of energy and all over the stage, keeping the crowd into the show and just impressing everybody. I sat next you a very nice young lady who brought her very reluctant boyfriend to the show, he was reluctant because he like a lot of people think Journey is not Journey without SP, well he now has a different opinion.

Great show all around and I would highly recommend if you get a chance to see them this year, go for it, you won't regret it.

Did you stay for the entire show? Apparently someone tweeted that Journey played WOM.

Seeing as BJG and Rhiannon haven't mentioned this song being played either, Maybe the tweeter confused it with something else.

Unless they played it during a "blink" the answer is still "no" and the only singer this night was AP and he was in fine form.

Ok, Rich...thanks. I had mixed emotions on that one.

Glad you had a good time.

A lot of new fans don't really know many of the songs beyond the two discs on Revelation. Maybe they were thinking WITS and someone mentioned WOM, confusing them.

Perry struggled with the vocals of that song as early as 1980. The two high notes followed by the falsetto before the solo and the high note plus falsetto at the end of the song just make a hard tune to sing. I know Deen has falsetto but have yet to hear it from Arnel. His voice shreds instead of switching over. Perhaps in his younger days he could do it but now would be completely different.

Well, in any respect, I'd rather hear that they didn't play it, rather than hear that they did and butchered a classic piece.

Hey Steve, WOM is not on the twitter site.
Someone just mentioned, a daughter reporting to a mother that WOM is played and she's got the video.
Let's just wait for the song the daughter meant WOM :) :) :)

BJG and Rhiannon didn't see the show and have no idea what was played, and BJG, speaking for herself, thinks if she ever steps foot on the Indy State Fairgrounds again, it will be way too fucking soon. AWFUL place for a show.

Why is it the only thing I ever seem to enjoy about visiting Indiana is the part where I cross the state line back into Illinois?

It's one of those freak of nature songs where a guy does the recording and then when he has to sing it live, looks at the other guys and says "How did I do that, before?".

Kinda like that classic Bonham drum solo that I have on LZ live DVD. Never again to be replicated.

Long story but yes... random last minute choice by us to say "holy cow, screw this!" No big deal, happens.

To answer steve777.... both.... awful sound and even worse seating setup.
Bleachers/grandstand, not seats, basically, and packed in like sardines... that plus BJG equals panic attack.
We all agreed it was not for us. It was HOT and I was about to go into full tilt panic.

I'll tell you, getting to meet Arnel was worth it and I hope I get the chance again so I can get a proper picture, not some ILAA thing that I'm never going to even see.

I met him for a just a minute (before the M&G) by a random occurance... was fishing in my bag for gum and I turn around and there was Arnel walking over! Very cool!! He was incredibly nice.

Very cool that you got to meet Arnel. To bad the rest of it sucked. I've never had a good concert experience at a state fair. It seems the wives or girlfriends drag the cowboys in after the rodeo and they would rather be anywhere but there. Also the sound system usually sucks big time.

So you got to meet Augeri and Arnel within 24 hours? Very cool. Well, at least you got to see One Journey singer performing. An Acoustic version of Faithfully and Kiss Me Softly from the night before sounds better than anything you would have seen at the fair today.

(Just don't tell me you didn't get to see that either).

No, I was lucky to be there and definitely missed nothing. :)

I agree -- that was the worst, and I'll never do that venue again. Really thought I could go back to being a general admission guy for just one show, but at least in this case with those horrible overpacked bleacher seats, it was pure torture. Now dig this -- found out later that they ended up adding extra seating at the last minute, and some goofballs were able to walk up to the ticket window and get SIXTH ROW seats! That really ticks me off!
