If I had to use one word to describe the show: AMAZING!!!

Maybe not quite a sold-out show, but empty seats were few and far between. Even Rockford's Katie Crowther (WTVO/FOX 39) was at the show as well as Eric Wilson (13 WREX).

This show was the first time I had seen Heart and despite Ann & Nancy Wilson joking about performing material for decades, neither shows their age or any signs of stopping anytime soon. Ann can still mesmerize a crowd with her powerful soaring vocals, while Nancy still complements with great harmonies and enthusiastic (even childlike) guitar playing. The rest of their band was solid as well throughout the night contributing their own idiosyncrasies while still staying true to the music. Their set-list included the fan-favorites and a few other gems that the audience probably didn't expect, but still responded with great response and applause.

As for headliner's, Journey, they truly are firing on all cylinders and seem to have some new life with the addition of lead singer, Arnel Pineda. Of course the band played many of their greatest hits, but also played welcome additions from their most recent album, "Revelation." The only common complaint from anyone at the show was the repetitive confusion from Arnel that "we" were Chicago -- somehow I hoped someone might correct him, but for the show that this awesome band gave Rockford, I think we can let it slide. To my own ears Ross Valory's bass seemed a bit low in the sound mix, but overall everything seemed balanced. As far as technical difficulties, there seemed to be a guitar problem during the intro. for the band's "Wheel in the Sky," although correction was prompt. Neal Schon's guitar playing is still cutting and yet fluid. Jonathan Cain continues to show his versatility between keyboards, rhythm guitar, and harmonica. Ross Valory continues to express (literally) his humor onstage while playing to the fans and carrying the low-end of things. Deen Castronovo is still a powerful force to be reckoned with behind the drums -- if you've attended any other Journey shows, you'll know he has a set of pipes himself when it comes to vocals. Saving the best for last, Arnel Pineda -- small in stature, yet a force of nature singing to the heavens and blazing back and forth across the stage while commanding the audience's attention. Wow, what a sight to watch. The band really has a great chemistry at this point in their careers and I (as well as other fans) look forward to the future. To those of you that decided to "stop believin',"...well, you're missing out.

I agree 1000%. People stop going to the shows because they're pissed at the band. I hate to say it, because I'm friends with some of these people, but that is fucking stupid. You all know you you are.

I'm glad you enjoyed the show. It's cool that you went with your dad because I took my daughter to her first Journey concert last month. We had a blast.

Journey is running on all cylinders, and sound as good as ever. For all you of people that can't let go of the past, get a fuckin shrink.

One line about the review and the rest about haters? That's funny

I'm in a pissy mood. The A/C isn't working and it's freakin hot in here.

Did you see that Pudge is back with the Rangers? Now that's great news.

Yes I did. Unfortunately the Angels still own their ass (and Tori Hunter just came back from the disabled list). I'm not a Halos fan (how they can be called the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim is beyond me) but facts are facts.

Fact : In 12 games this year Texas has won 9 of them. Angles may be sitting in first place, and that's what really matters, but Texas has owned the Angels this year with a 9-3 head ot head record. 8) Go Pudge!

Thanks for posting the setlist and review. Glad you had a great time. That's the same setlist they played in Indy on Sunday night. Wish I could have made it to the Rockford show, since it's just over an hour away from my home town. Too bad. Glad you enjoyed yourself.

I don't think the locals were too happy with Arnel - he kept addressing them as "Chicago", and the guys in front of me kept flipping him off.

8)

He did that in Oklahoma too. The majority of the people there were from Texas, because Texas doesn't allow gambling, and there are several casinos in Oklahoma, right across the border that take advantage of that. WinStar being one of them. Jon Cain said "Good people of Oklahoma, how are you doing?" But Arnel kept saying "Dallas, how are you doing?" or something similar. It may not have been as glaring there as it was at your show, but someone needs to have a chat, I think.

He can't see where they're going from under the bus, so please forgive him. When they pull him out and remove the blindfold he has no idea where the fuck he is. They just wind him up and off he goes.

Whoa. My only thought was the possibility of seeing Chicago signs when coming from Indianapolis, but then again I had hoped someone would've corrected him during the times he stepped off-stage.

Yeah I definitely had a blast, although like many of us, we all had hopes to hear a few more songs that have been played at other shows.

Look at Rick go. They are running on all cylinders according to most every concert-goer on MR from Europe on, and no amount of wishful thinking by some on here is going to change that. The reviews have been fantastic.

Thank you, Pianoman, for your review so early after the concert. Those of us that still enjoy Journey on here appreciate it. 8)

Same in Rockford. That chick with the ponytails on the keyboards in Heart was killer! She had that Mini Moog sounding great in Crazy On You.

I ran into a couple long time fans who I did not expect to see. It's still hard for most old Journey fans to stay away and I feel sorry for those who remain bitter and miss out on some great shows.

Back to the concert. It was a great show complete with an extended extended version of WITS. Neal was on fire and went from one side of the stage to the other several times. Ross was hilarious as usual and AP is really turned into quite the show man, he was connecting with everyone in the audience not just those up front. There were a lot of smiles in the audience, it was pretty hard not to smile between Ross's faces and AP's smile. I really missed Deen singing tho. There were a few gliches in the sound, but this band sure knows how to recover seamlessly.

I love Heart but Ann seemed to be struggling a bit tonight, but man does she still have the pipes and still put on a fantastic show.

There was a strict no camera policy which I believe is due to Heart. At Indy security told folks that no cameras could be used during Heart's set but Journey had no problem with it. At Rockford they were checking for cameras at the entrance, so pics are going to be rare. This is one time where I would love to see a you tube of WITS. Oh well, I guess I will just have to see another concert. :)

Interesting. A concertgoer who posted his review on Journey's website said Wheel In The Sky was the peak song of the evening and that they rocked as hard as Rush or Van Halen on that song. As hard as Rush? I don't know. :D That I would love to see, b/c I love Rush.

The band might need to cut back on those Scandinavian Heavy Metal Festivals, they might be a bad influence on his airness.

He's like an abuser, but Isla won't see it coming. Whatever she posts, even if it's amazing, he will say, oh, another Faithfully, another SW, another Change for the Better, and if he gets an average one, he will pounce with glee.  So never a compliment that Isla so wants from GB, and she will continue and continue trying to earn praise from him with the perfect video to make him happy and it will never come. He has her completely under his control.

Don't worry, Isla will probably dig up WDILYL or WIN for you...wait, they didn't play those. Okay, make that Open Arms or Don't Stop Believing.

Searching . . . searching . . . just to please you, GB!

I can't wait. You do the grunt work, then I'll do the analysis.

I've got my analyst hat ready to go.

...are you outsourcing labor too?

:D

Isla is a good worker, immigration status shouldn't play a part in this.

(You're not a TNT are you, Isla?)

They all say that. But it really is about cheap labor

Isla's a chic? Oh lord, the possibilities. I won't pounce on the next video though. I don't want to wear my act too thin yet. I'll wait for the early show performance.

My guess is that he has a military background and where he has been stationed he is used to Asian people being subservient to him and beckoning to his every call. (read kissing his ass, washing the royal penis, etc) I don't get that for 10 more years, when I retire to somewhere.
