Every great guitarist in the world hates it so much that they conspired to leave Neal off the list as an act of revenge????

But but what about Jeff Beck's 'Hi Ho silver Lining?' creating THAT has to be a hanging offence?????

Or Paul Gilbert's To Be With You. :lol: LOL a lot of bands have their own Open Arms. :P

Why doesn't Neal get the recognition he deserves? Hmmmm....let me take a stab at that.

Perry = nice Image
Neal = mean Image

Perry = good Image
Neal = evil Image

Perry = angel Image
Neal = devil Image

People don't want to give props to Neal b/c they equate that with taking props away from Perry. It's all a part of the musical juggernaut designed to prevent Neal from receiving the recognition he deserves. According to the blueprints of the diabolical master plan, they have to keep Neal's talents on the down low until Perry's able to rule the world.Image

(I kid but there's probably a little bit of truth in there somewhere....well, except for that "rule the world" part.)

Neal is in my Top 3 Guitarists list. Fuck the reviewers... WTF do they know? They screwed Journey back in the 80's and it still continues with Neal's lack of recognition.

The fact that they put Keith Richards in the top 100 and didn't put Neal in it shows how fucking retarded the listmaker is. Friga is probably a better guitarist than Keith Richards.

75% of the first list couldn't even carry Neal Schon's codpiece on guitar.

Neal may be mean or whatever but the fact remains. That old boy can play a Guitar and he deserves to be on every Guitar Greats list that there is. He is an incredible player and the people who made up that list just plain dont have a clue.

I know, it's ridicules isn't it. It's the same when you read a list of the greatest rock singers of all time, and people like Mick Jagger are listed higher than people like Steve Perry, John Farnham, Joe Lynn Turner, Jimmy Jamison even, and probably Mickey Thomas, Lou Gramm. Can it get anymore f***ked up than that? I don't think so. In his genre Neal is in the TOP 3 no particular order IMO, for that style of music, for classic rock, probably number 1 even? I am not biased either, but his guitar riffs and solo's are the most memorable out of them all IMO.

People who compile those lists are brown nosing big time, they are kissing ass and ought to be ashamed of themselves. And yes it pisses me off too :) I would boycott that magazine ASAP.

I'd say it has to do with a combination of factors. The major one is that Journey was built more around vocals than the guitar, so Perry became the face of the band. Then, for better or worse, it was categorized as a pop band more than a rock band. The pop/ballad singles didn't have all that much guitar in them either, so unless you heard the full albums, you didn't really hear that much guitar. The last big thing is the majority of the guitar you did hear in the singles was tame and melodic, not full-on shredding. Take your average teenage hard rock fan, and a nicely-played melodic solo isn't going to have the same macho hero effect as your head-banging shredfest. You can get away with that in other genres (see blues, for example), but very rarely in pop/rock. For better or worse, aggressive lead guitar and Journey radio songs just never went together.

Doesn't have anything to do with talent, and personally, I'm more impressed with someone who can/will play what the song needs as opposed to using it as a springboard for guitar acrobatics (see Yngwie Malmsteen for the polar opposite). I don't think any of these factors alone would have cut him automatically, but it's more of a cumulative effect. If something like HSAS had gone big, the public opinion might be different, but at this point, it's VERY unlikely that you will get a song that would change popular opinion--and even less likely with Journey. We know he should be there, but it's based on the full body of work--and THAT, is what 99% of the people haven't heard.

As much of a Perry Loon as I am, I feel the love with Neal's I on U album. Simply awesome guitar work and as much emotion as Perry belts out with his voice.

I don't care for Neal one little bit, but I can't deny his talent with a guitar.

Can someone forward this to Neal so he can blog about how he gets no respect from the musical establishment? This list wasn't put together by critics. It was Guitar players grading their own.
