Mick Jones is missing but then again, he's in the same boat as Schon, trapped in the confines of Foreigner's catalog and it's gradual slide into the genre of Pop music.

Neither is Keith Scott, or Nils Lofgren, but I am fine with this list. Those guys are both better than Gilbert.

Richie Sambora is not on the list either. It shows that these guys are more associated with their bands than as stand alone artists. Without collaboration, no one really knows who they are.

The fact that they put Keith Richards in the top 100 and didn't put Neal in it shows how fucking retarded the listmaker is. Friga is probably a better guitarist than Keith Richards.

Pure ignorance. Keith Richards is Keith Richards. He plays a unique style for a rock and roll band. Schon plays pop 40 songs in a pop band. You people are so fucking blinded by your love for Journey. Digitaldreamdoor, the link Steveo77 posted is a fan appreciation site, a site where fans can load up on their favourites. LOL, I remember when they were going full tilt about 2-3 years ago. Journey fans were even saying Steve Augeri should be top 10 vocalists and Ross Valory should be top 10 bassists. You know damned well those picks are ridiculous. You folks ever stop and wonder why Schons' peers don't think so highly of him? They may quietly think he is a good player, because he is, but you never hear any of his peers say he is a great player, or a playing legend. He is good but he isn't a top 10 guitar player. Oh and you can bet your ass his peers know all about the tape shenanigans he pulled too. Don't fool yourselves, that shit turned a lot of people in the industry off to him and the band. They lost whatever little credibility they had. And you wonder why insiders don't respect Journey. Can you blame them? How can industry insiders respect Journey, when Journey can't even respect rock n roll or even it's fans, be it rock n roll fans, or their very own fans?

Oh and no, Friga is not a better player than Richards. Put the bong down.

Since when don't Schon's peers think highly of him?

You're constant degrading of Journey the last 2 years has come amid their resurgence. You sound ridiculous.

IDK Eric, none of his peers thought highly enough of him to put him in the top 100. What does that say about Schon?

You're constant degrading of Journey the last 2 years has come amid their resurgence. You sound ridiculous.

I sound ridiculous? Why, telling my thoughts of a band as opposed to the always rose colored glasses that you and the pom pom crowd wear daily? What's ridiculous is you and your buddies here saying journey are the best ever this and the best ever that. YOU are the one that sounds fucking ridiculous.

And resurgence? Dude, they had a nice little tour and a gold album. Whoopdee shit.

I love Richie's playing, I think some of the names on that list are maybe better "technically" like Gilbert. Richie IMO, is like Schon, very "feeling" players.......which most times I prefer. Emmett and Kotzen fall in that catagory for me also....love both of their playing too.

Emmett's playing was such a big part of their live shows. At least a quarter of the set time was him jamming out.

Not sure about the exact criteria that was used to put together this list. Maybe just biased opinions, cuz guitarists are biased human beings too.lol
Pro rankings or not, Neal should be among those 100 at least for two reasons: he has an uncanny gift of coming up with brilliant, unforgettable song themes/solos and he sure has one of the best guitar tones in history.

So...meh. This list can't be a real barometer. Haven't seen Eric Johnson on it either and that guy is a tremendous talent and a pioneer.

Neal SHOULD be in the Top 100.

I am also surprised that Hendrix wasn't higher up the list, because over the years I have read so many quotes from rockers saying he was their greatest influence/favourite guitarist etc.

I have a sneaky feeling Classic Rock do not like Neal and/or Journey and are finding it difficult to swallow their pride and give them a good review.

I know they were playing around with some deeper cuts a while back. I wonder . . . . .

I would rather have What I Needed back in the game even more so than TDTWT. I love to listen to that at home, but I LOVE What I Needed in concert, the extended verision. I would love that here in Orlando.

I don't know why they would play a 20 year old ballad when they've got TDTWT and WIN fans waiting to hear those songs for the first time.
Even the polls on Arnel's site don't rank that particular ROR cut very highly.

How about a new song for the TRON soundtrack?

Neal should be in this list... anyone who was in high school in the 1970's and into Departure and earlier material, was into Neals playing... cause then they were a musicians band, and Neal was killin' it at live shows.

I'll agree it's a "Journey" song, but no matter who came up with it, without Perry's emotional delivery of that one, it wouldn't have went anywhere. Can you imagine somebody with far less soul than Perry trying to deliver that one? Would love to hear someone pull it off, but I can't imagine that one having anywhere near the same punch. :?

Actually I don't know it. If he could pull it off I would love it. That's only if. That song has never been heard live by the majority of fans. Put a lot of classic songs in, in place of BGTY or LTS, that that have not been heard live often, and we fans love it. Sure, I want WIN, but I woud like other songs from the classic era, too. Take out BGTY or LTS. But there's tons of songs I would still love to hear from earlier days as a Journey fan.

Just like as a U2 fan I love their older hits mixed up with deeper cuts and just like TFF I love their older music mixed up in concert, not just Shout, but deeper cuts, and mixed with their new album, which they usually play three new songs in 90 minute concert b/c that's the way the fans basically dictate it.

Journey is playing three to four new songs in concert depending on length of show. I have no problem with three new songs in a 90 minute show. My beef is get rid of some of these same old loser songs I don't like they play every year and give me Stay Awhile, Chain Reaction, Precious Time, People and Places, When You Love a Woman, and, yes, What I Needed, on and on.
