OT--A COVER TUNE OF MINE

Postby BobbyinTN » Sun Aug 30, 2009 3:51 am

I think some of you on here know that I'm a lover of ballads, and some friends and family wanted me to record a favorite song of mine from the past that I used to sing everywhere. I finally did it, after much delay and worry that I'd be ripped apart for doing it. I just used an old backing track, but put a different little spin on some of the melody and some harmonies.

It's MAKING LOVE OUT OF NOTHING AT ALL and you can hear it here-

http://www.reverbnation.com/bobbysmusic

Let me know what you think. I hope I can take the good and the bad. LOL ;-)

Hope everyone is doing well and having a great weekend.

Busy day for me so I was just stopping in for a moment and this is the first thread I clicked on and I'm so glad I did....and then took the time to listen to the rest of your songs. I had listened to a couple in the past that you posted but this is the first time I've taken the time to listen to everything you have on Reverb......and I have to say....you have the purist voice that I've heard from anyone on here...even more so then many of the famous singers who are discussed here and whose videos are posted. It's been awhile since I heard a singers voice that gave me chills and all over goosebumps that just wouldn't stop while listening.....and when "The Way I Love You" came on that happened and continued thru many more. Beautiful. You indeed have a gift...thanks for sharing it.

Thanks Ehwmatt, and I love women and appreciate their beauty.

I've been using an AKG tube mic and if I'm in a hurry an SM-58 with a Line 6 interface.

Very impressive indeed. Air Supply have two vocalist and you nailed both parts. I thought it was going to fall apart when the high part came in, but it actually got better.

I'd love to hear any of the talented tenors we've got here (Jeremey, Liq Drummer, Bobby... etc sorry if I'm leavin out) take a stab at Brand New Start, the David Pack song w/ Perry on backing vox. Probably would have to isolate the vocal to do it, I doubt there's a backing track around, but that is a hell of a ballad.

"I hope I can take the good and the bad." cool..with that in mind...

Notes are a little flat, high notes are veryyyyy straining sounding. To the point of "eek!!!". Could you sing the high notes perhaps in a softer tone without having to really strain? Use more of your head voice, you're tending to sing through your nose on those high notes to compensate. Your chest voice sounds good, but your head voice needs some serious work. Try to get those high notes while singing "softer". If you have to belt/strain to get those high notes, open your mouth alot wider, this helps. That's the EXACT technique that helped Jon Bon Jovi get back some of his range in his late 30's and into his 40's. You can see it in alot of his performances where is mouth just gets massively wide which allows quicker/deeper breaths, and allows the vocal chords to really expand. Plus it also helps keep the notes from going through your nasal cavity. ;) Keep at it, but you def need to work on dynamics, tone, and range.

He isn't straining. You may need a hearing aid.

I'm not straining at all, just singing full force with emotion, and I feel that's what the song calls for. But, everyone has an opinion and I don't fault anyone for expressing them.

Those notes I'm hitting are Bs and Cs, high for any tenor to hit in full voice. AND, after listening to it a few hundred times, I don't hear any flat notes, maybe a nuanced one here and there (LOL), but the recording is done without any pro-tools or fancy editing, because I don't have pro-tools and I suck at fancy editing. However, some people hear things differently and it's always good to get feedback, positive and "constructive". ;-), but it doesn't mean anything about the song will change.

I recorded it for fun, had a wonderful time doing it and it's a finished project. It's a song I sang for the first time when I was 16 or 17 years old and it brought the house down. To record it now at 43 and still be able to do it in the original key, is kinda cool. LOL

I'm always nervous to share anything with others, but the overall reaction has been so positive it makes me want to be even better.

I thank you all who have praised me and also those who think it could be a little better.
