US Festival/Live Aid. Why no Journey?

Fact is there were no Aor bands at the 83 event, (and none of the following in 82 either). Foreigner, Starship, Heart, Loverboy, Styx, Journey, etc...were nowhere to be found.

Not sure if you are talking US festival here, but if so, there were quite a few AOR bands. Just to name a few VH, Scorpions, Triumph, Pretenders, INXS, U2, Quarterflash, Missing Persons, Berlin.....

What would you classify these groups as? And if these are not AOR bands, then neither is Journey.

Scorpions are usually classifed under heavy metal (or "classic metal," LOL). Van Halen and Triumph have always been hard rock.

Missing Persons and Berlin were a part of the American branch of the new wave/new romantic movements, AFAIK. Not AOR like Journey (early Journey is prog), Foreigner, Survivor, etc.

There are a lot of bands that straddle prog and symphonic rock/AOR, like Saga (diehard fans argue they're prog, but that's bullshit).

Then you have hybrid styles like avant-prog and prog-fusion.

I just listen to whatever the fuck I like, and let all the other boneheads argue.

I think that alot of these bands listed above were regarded by the powers that be (Geldof and friends) as either being sell outs or not cool. Alot of the talent that played was either reflective of a new period in music, new wave/new british invasion (thereby being soooo cooool) or they were so huge you couldn't ignore them, (McCartney, Queen, U2.)

I wonder if Lora or Cyndi have any input on this subject. It would be interesting to know what went on.
