MelodicRock Fantasy Football

Postby ProgRocker53 » Wed Sep 02, 2009 2:14 am

Hey guys, I'm addicted to fantasy football and I know there's a ton of fans on here, so I figured I'd fire up a Fantasy Football league on Yahoo for Melodic Rock posters.

Melodic Rock League
ID#: 834877
Password: friga

The team limit is at 12 for now, let me know if you guys think I should expand or shrink that.

Also let me know if you'd rather have a live draft or just do it by pre-rankings. As of now the draft is set for this Saturday at 6 PM but that can easily be changed at a moments notice.

I hope to see you all on there.

As a 20 year veteran of fantasy football, I think 12 teams are WAY too many. With that many teams, every team in the league ends up with stiff players on their team who don't even ever play. 8 teams seems to always be the right number!

K, good call. My other leagues are all 12 team leagues.. I'll shrink it to 10 (reasonable medium) unless there's a ton of people clamoring to get in.

LOL, look at Dean's name. John, you need to get signed in. Whoever else wants to joing there are many spots. Better make it quick!

Just go to yahoo's main page, and sign in your Yahoo account. Go to Sports-- NFL--and at the top of the page you'll see in red is the fantasy ticker. Click that and it will bring you to certain league's you can join, or create. Obviously choose the join league, and that will eventually bring you to the ID # and Password, which Prog has already posted the data in his post. That will bring you to your team name and all that stuff. Looking forward to this.. going to be a good time.

The hard part is getting everybody together for draft day. I remember last time we tried, no one showed up. A clusterfuck if there ever was one.

We have to play for money don't we?

10 teams at 50 bucks = 500.00.

How about a Win Place Show format, with Winner getting 300, second getting 150 and third gets his money back at 50.00?

Payable a the end of the season of course.

2 more people would bring us to 8, which would be the perfect number for a fantasy league.

No 10 or 12 is better. With 8 teams everyones teams are loaded with great free agents lying around!!! The draft is not as important when people are adding and dropping people left and right and trades are non-existant.

I don't agree. I'm in several 8 team leagues, and the best running back available is Sammy Morris (who plays for a team who doesn't even pretend to run the football)! Chris Chambers is the best wideout available. I wouldn't take either one of those stiffs on my team!

How many players are you allowed to carry on your roster? 45?

Actually, we're only allowed to carry 17 roster spots per team, and that even includes two kickers and two defenses. That's precisely why my point is that anything over 8 leaves VERY slim pickings. I've been doing the fantasy football thing for 20 long years now, and through trial and error, we figured out that 8 teams is perfect. The reality is that there are fewer than 5 stud running backs and about the same number of stud wide receivers. One of my top running backs in an 8 team league is Ryan Grant, and he isn't that good!

I haven't played in a few years, but I'd imagine a big reason is because so many teams in the NFL use multiple backs nowadays.

That is absolutely a HUGE reason for it. When I started doing this 20 years ago, there wasn't a single team in the NFL who used two backs, and nobody ever thought about bringing in a goal line back. Even still, the talent is greatly watered down! Look at the QB position...After Brady, Brees, Rivers, Manning, and maybe Rogers (can't believe I'm even using his name), you can throw the next 10 guys in a hat, and they're all about the same. There just aren't that many elite players at ANY position to have 10 or more fantasy teams in a league. Leagues that have 10+ teams are forced to draft guys who play on special teams, and that's just silly (especially if you're actually playing for money)!

Without a doubt. With so many offense's spelling players at multiple positions, more-so the running back position, and utilizing sub packages in a system such as the wild-cat, fantasy now forces owners to take a running back that are apart of these packages and situations such as goaline situations. If anything you are getting tiny value in a player that rarely see's action, but if played right could give you extra points than you had before in previous years in a flex position. This makes it very tough to draft + utilize your final game day starters for your team, with already the addition of keeping track of injured players, waivers, and bye weeks.

Yeah, by all means, plenty of room. Right now we have 6.. 8 would be perfect so with your addition we are one step closer to the minimum of what we need. Prog wanted to draft Saturday Night at 9:00 since that seems reasonable for everybody involved.

As far as stinking at FF, hey, you never know! Breakout players, busts, and gems are all over the place if done right.. but I'd stay away from just drafting mainly your team although I think Rodgers is a nice valuable pickup in this draft and I believe if healthy he will bring nice fantasy numbers, but lets save it for Saturday! 8)
