A lot of new sign ups are spammers. Look at some of the WWW sites in their profile, but be aware, I saw at least one that was a porn site. I know T-Bone spends a lot of time weeding them out, as I'm sure Andrew does as well.

I took a look at the forum member list (to see if I could find the supposed Anastasia Beaverhausen posts), and I noticed that out of the last 150 new forum members, only two of them have posted anything. Do people just join this forum and never post? Were these people mainly spammers that Andrew never allowed out of the gate, or do people just randomly waste their time registering to post on message boards that they have no intention of posting on?

I think it's more along the lines of getting used to all the misc posts, the bs from the dirty dozen posters, the fact that you can read topics ranging from politics, sports, world events, oh yah....music too, etc, etc. Only when you realize you're not supposed to take any of it too seriously, that's when you'll see them start to post. I'm sure it's a bit much for the casual web surfer to digest.

My guess is they're waiting for that email that will never come. Otherwise, I would have waited forever.... & ever..... & getting increasingly discouraged ....... & depressed .... & wondering why Andrew doesn't like me ...... & why I'm not good enough to be a member....... & wondering, "Was it something I said?" ...... until one day I wouldn't have been able to even get up out of bed. There would have been nothing left to live for.

Same with me, Jason. I joined months b/f and never got the email and forgot about it. And later I tried joining again and waited a month and never got the email. So one day I just on a lark went in and tried to post and I COULD. I had someone on another site pm me that they had been waiting for the email for confirmation they had been accepted here and never got it. I told her just to try posting anyway, and she told me it worked. She said if I hadn't told her that she would have given up waiting and would have thought she wasn't accepted.

I remember when I first signed up for this board, I had to email Andrew several times to request him to approve my registration. Every time he checks, my account wasn't in the "memberlist". Maybe T-Bone thought I'm a spammer that he kept deleting my account as soon as I sign up hence Andrew can't find me. IIRC, I think in the end Andrew had to create my account manually.

Perhaps you can try integrating captcha on signups to get rid of these spam bots?
