OT - Fantastic 80s sounding modern song..

Hinder are a great band. Some people here need to delve into some modern music.

Great song, that could easily have been by Bon Jovi in 1986.

One of the best melodic rock songs of the past few years.

Think Van Halen, Journey, Def Leppard, and Rush having an orgy.

They are absolutely brilliant song after song.

So are the guys from Seether. They are the reason why I can finally stomach Careless Whisper.

Not to mention Broken - the awesome duet they made with Amy Lee (Evanescence) or the great video for the equally great song Breakdown.

I've been dying for some new music recently (new, as in from an artist I'm not necessarily familiar with), so on you two's recommendation I went and picked up Coheed & Cambria's "No World For Tomorrow." Haven't listened enough to form a strong opinion, but I like what I've heard so far.

Prog, we're about the same age - what else are you spinning these days? Anything I might like? I'm a fan of good guitar work, big choruses, some good hooks, etc. Basically stuff that is represented in the older bands I enjoy, but I have to try something new and more modern. Things are getting a little stale on my iPod.

Suggestions?

Coheed's third album is a great pick too, I'm in love with that band these days.

Check out the band Anberlin, their album "New Surrender." It's got a few tender ballads, a few soaring fist-pumpers, and some heavy head-thrashers. Andrew was big on the album too. I highly recommend it.

Avenged Sevenfold's newest album is great too. It's too heavy for melodic rock, too melodic for heavy metal... kinda experimental in parts, brilliant stuff.

Pure Reason Revolution. Can't recommend them enough. Their latest album "Amor Vincit Omnia" is like Muse, Porcupine Tree, Nine Inch Nails, and the Beatles rolled into one. Insane stuff.

If you're into stuff like Metallica or Pantera, pick up Mastodon... their latest two albums are the best. Good heavy metal.

If you haven't listened to AUDIOSLAVE by now... do it. Immediately. Especially their self-titled. AMAZING album.

Although I enjoyed their last CD, I got pretty sick of every song having reference to being "Sober" or not "Sober"... Or having a fight with the significant other and thinking about someone else... They need more subject matter to draw lyrics from

I have come to enjoy Hinder after seeing them perform at Sturgis earlier this month.

"Use Me" is another great tune.

Hinder's Take It To The Limit is absolutely incredible. I honestly consider it to be the best album of 2008, by any band, new or old. I would call it one of the top two or three albums by a new band in the past ten or fifteen years. I've listened to it dozens, if not hundreds, of times and it never gets old. I don't know if they'll ever be able to create another album as perfect as Take It To The Limit, but I am still eager for a third album from them, hopefully in a year or two.

And here is our very own singing hero Ste... Arnel Pineda covering "Lips of an angel" by Hinder.

Thanks for the recommendations. Great stuff. I'm looking into Anberlin's stuff and Avenged Sevenfold. Trying to decide what to pick up next. Thanks.
