If I recall, Gun's in Glendale?... which is close enough, but not that close. Don't quote me tho on his location....

Ok, thanks for that. All I've got is a google map, and while I'm great with map directions, I'm shite at extrapolating distances. Still not sure if I should be worrying so much about a friend in Pasadena I can't get hold of - on the map it looks horribly close, but it could be miles away for all I know. I hate having people I know near bushfires - horrible memories. :(

My family is all in Pasadena, and they've assured me they are fine. Smokey as all get out, but fine. It hasn't progressed 'down' the hill yet for Pasadena to be affected. If it goes past Altadena, then there is a danger to Pasadena.

Got my fingers crossed for you. Got your fire plan worked out? Take care and keep us posted, ok?

Thank you Ari. Yes, we definitely have a fire plan. Four years before we moved here, half the town (our side of the highway) was evacuated; luckily they had a wind-direction change that saved them. Then, the year we moved here, we had another very close call - no evacuation but enough to make us realize we have to deal with this pretty much every summer. Winds changed this afternoon, the sun came out and the smoke cleared a bit - but since suppertime it's become even worse - smells like a campground even in the house and there is a thunderstorm brewing. Really hoping no new fires start up tonight.

You couldn't light a fire here right now with napalm. Wet and cold and wind gust passing 150k/h (100mph). Bah! Rained every day for a month here.

Be thankful Andrew. Maybe way too much rain, but it's got to be better than what's occurring in CA. Guess I won't complain so much about my weather after seeing the hell those people are going through. Fire fighters are tops on my list of heroes.

We needed the rain...the damns around the state were empty, now they are at 35%...but IF the rain stops altogether, we have a hell of a fire season ahead ourselves.

hmm.

so why is it when others are defending themselves against people who have said vile things to them you come in & ask them... "if you don't want people to talk to you like that don't use the same language" or "don't stoop to their level"??? is it just alright for you to defend yourself... using whatever language you please? you call stu an ass cause he didn't see the interaction between you & dan? well i guess you're also an ass... you don't always see what people say before jumping on someone defending themselves.

I don't see anyone conducting random attacks on you Tree...not anyone that you weren't in the midst of a debate with which wasn't random.
I wasn't having a political debate with Stu. He came in and immediately got personal and then made a serious accusation that I have " done things" to Dan....which is beyond ridiculous. I don't take being lied about lightly. There is a difference when things aren't provoked by discussion and when accusations are made...a difference between that and a political debate getting heated and names called and then you bitching about it to me when you did the same...but anyway, I'm not going to bother explaining it further because if you didn't understand it then you won't now. ....so yes, whatever you say... I've said it's better to take the high road but today I stooped down to some very deserving assholes level and gave a little back in the same manner. Gloves came off and will remain off when it comes to a lying sack of shit. Sue me.

so when a "man" can't debate any longer & decides to call a woman a bitch, cocksucker, talks about custard filled vaginas (ew)... wishes death on them that is okay because the debate got "heated"? whatever. if someone is going to throw personal attacks because they can't debate i'm going to umm... not be so nice or have respect for anyone who calls me a bitch/cocksucker... wishes me death.

phly your prob is you always want the last word & you always think you are right. i'm not saying you can't defend yourself & use the same language thrown at you... go for it. i don't like the way people talk to each other here most of the time... & that includes the way people talk to you. ESPECIALLY the way some "men" here talk to us women.

having different views & opinions doesn't give someone the right to throw personal attacks... does having a different point of view justify an attack? do i provoke people because i may think differently?

I never said I agreed with things some men have said to you, debate or not. In fact I have said I didn't agree with it at all so I wasn't defending that at any time. I've gotten onto TNC before as well as Deano and others. My saying anything to anyone on here is why I am so disliked by some,....gossip has been spread by some who don't know me personally at all and whats been spread is not factual.

I have made mistakes but for the most part I have tried to say things for the right reasons even if I haven't always explained them fully enough every time. I have absolutely nothing against you personally or anyone else on this board for that matter. I am also quick to forgive when maybe I shouldn't sometimes. I have no agenda...when I read here I react to what is said...not to go after anyone. I also don't read every single thread or post. I also don't think I'm always right or need to get the last word. I've never claimed to be perfect either. All of those things are said of me and not what I think or have said.

Anyway.. I just wish people would debate something without getting personal. If someone debates me in a respectful manner then thats what they will get in return. I also wish all the men were more respectful of women then they are. Not every man here is disrespectful...there are some good men here. Unfortunitely a few that aren't give men a bad name.

Yes :) . Do you folks who live under these fires consider wearing some kind of mask like I've seen in photos from those who live near volcanoes? It doesn't look very cool, lol, but I wonder if in the long term it would be wise? I watched "I Survived" just the other day on cable and there were two different fire stories--one was a truck driver in Utah who got caught right in the middle of a fire loaded down with pool chemicals but he kept driving through it even though the cab was melting and flames were coming out from under the hood and I'll be darned if he didn't drive himself right out of it--his truck burned up on the side of the road after he leapt out of the cab and ran... The other was a California story--a hillside fire--they stayed in their garage but it got too smoky so they made a ran for their pool and lived through the fire that way. The stories were absolutely spellbinding and freaking scary! The fire in the California story came so fast the couple had no time to run... Austin is a little like Los Angeles--hilly, drought, and lots of dry timber. I get a little scared when I hear about fires in drought-ridden places...

That's not a nice feeling; even if it seems a long way off, make sure you've got your plan worked out. Scares the hell out me how quickly a fire front can move. Take care and keep us posted.
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

we've got the bad air down at the coast now, some 40 miles from the fires. i was driving on the 210 freeway yesterday, it runs along the foothills, and the smoke was so thick, very scary and eerie. as of yesterday it was 5% contained with 122,000 acres burned. they say full containment could not happen til sept. 15. the weather is still hot, but cooler temps are expected by weeks end.

sorry to read the post by st john. funny too cuz not too long ago he was here and raved about the malibu/santa monica area and talked of moving here :? .

No huge surprise here. Officials are now saying it's "Human Caused". Not saying arson or how, but just that it wasn't lightning or fallen electrical wires, etc.

Let me address my prior comments and make them crystal clear. My issues with California have nothing to do with its beauty, its hard working people or its political leanings. My issues do have to do with the state having approximately a half million gang members, 3 million illegal aliens, the inability to balance a budget and these annual forest fires that make national news. Simply let the motherfuckers burn. Homes can be replaced and lives can't. Fighting a "50 foot wall of flames" like Andrew said isn't heroic...it's fucking stupid!!!

Nowhere did I wish ill will on any innocent people. So, Phyllis, shut your fucking cum tunnel. And P.E.T.A. called and assured me that they're not going to stick up for you anymore. You're sub-animal to them, too.

Wow.

Postby chynablue » Thu Sep 03, 2009 9:37 am

Huh. You know I've been reading through these posts as they come in. Of course I've had to do it with the windows shut, because I couldn't breathe this week due to all the smoke. I've had to keep my kids in the house, although I did drive them up 1/2 hour into the mountains to see why you shouldn't play with matches. It was incredible. It was terrifying.

Water pressure has been low. And we've had some electrical brown-outs in this crazy heat, guess why. When you CAN get the TV to work, the media is saturated with the news of these fires, which have frightened not only my children but my family across the U.S., where it is also headline news. The TV, radio and cell emergency response towers were in serious jeopardy. If they were to go down, imagine the kind of riots we would be exposed to, not only in the "gang cities" but in Beverly Hills, Hollywood, and the quiet little mountain that I live on as well.

Simply let the motherfuckers burn ?

I can't even get into how offensive these posts are. We live in a state where you only get rain from November to April, and I realize there is a price to pay for being able to drive with the top down the other 8 months of the year. But people lost their homes, their savings...people died. I'm all for morbid humor but COME ON, can't we draw a line somewhere? Anywhere?

Can we take this cum-tunneling bullshit somewhere else? Maybe on a Perry vs. Hugo vs. Jeremy thread, or in a post about how Neal Schon plays in a D tuning this year instead of an E tuning? My god man...If you can't use some common sense and decency, could you at least show some respect for the artists you like who live in this friggin town (as most of them do), and have to deal with these calamities?

I don't want a fight, and please don't send a page of justifications...I have no time for it. I have to watch out the window and keep my family safe. But if it's a flame war you want...go for it. I've been in one for 6 days now, a REAL one.

That line was taken out of context. That was in reference to the choice between the possibility of human casualties or fighting a "50 foot wall of flames."

chynablue wrote:We live in a state where you only get rain from November to April,

So what has your state done in preparation for something that happens seemingly every year? As a tax payer, I would demand better foresight.

chynablue wrote: But people lost their homes, their savings...people died. I'm all for morbid humor but COME ON, can't we draw a line somewhere? Anywhere?

I never made light of anyone losing their money, homes or lives. Re-read.

chynablue wrote: Can we take this cum-tunneling bullshit somewhere else?

I stayed off of here for 3 days and Medusa just kept at it so I responded. I deemed this the right time to respond. It's a message board, dude. Save the heart-string tugging and violin playing for a charity gig or a Charlie Daniels concert.

chynablue wrote: If you can't use some common sense and decency, could you at least show some respect for the artists you like who live in this friggin town (as most of them do), and have to deal with these calamities??

I wish all the innocent, hard working people the very best of outcomes.

Request denied.

the station fire is mostly federal land. most home owners do their part, but they can't clear 50 years of growth in the forest that the feds hold.
