Brand new teaser!!!

Postby G.I.Jim » Fri Sep 04, 2009 8:03 am

Hey everyone,

As usual... I've got a new song for you to check out. It's only a VERY short teaser, but I'm also posting the first half of the solo here (it's a long solo!). I am blessed to be working with not just one, but TWO amazing guitarists, and you'll hear them both in these tracks!

This song is still very much a work-in-progress, but I was too excited not to share a glimpse of it! If any of you are Toto fans... I think you'll really like this song.

The first clip is the intro with Alex joining me on guitars leading into the first verse. Here it is...

https://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php? ... b87d2fcd46

This second clip is just the 1st half of the solo. Our new guitarist Jakk tackled the solo, and keep in mind... this is just his bare guitar with zero effects added in. This clip is also his very first take after hearing the song! He is going to add some SERIOUS rock to these songs, and between he and Alex... This album is going to kick ASS!!! :D I hope you like these, and I apologize for them being so short... I can't spill any beans on the rest of it yet.

Here it is...

Damn Duncan, you scared the SHIT out of me! I had to pop in the Fahrenheit cd just to make sure I didn't rip them off subliminaly!!!  I just checked out the whole album, and I'm safe. :D I thought I pulled a ColdPlay for a minute. I appreciate the compliment though.

I seriously think this is going to be your best song yet. Do you know where it's going to go after the intro?

Thanks man! yeah... the whole song is finished (well, roughed in anyways) musically. It's almost 5 minutes long, and I'm very proud of it. I'm still wrestling with the lyrics though, so I didn't want to post any of them yet. It'll change before it's finished. I hope to finish it this weekend. I'll keep you posted.

Duncan, I don't know if you're a fan of Work Of Art, but I let Robert from the band check out an early version of this song and he loved it! He is another amazing guitarist, and I'm sure we'll work on something again in the future... he worked on one of my other demos a while back. Just thought you might like to hear that!

I'll post more of it as soon as I can.

Can't wait to hear it. If you are feeling in a Toto mood could you work something up in the style of Takin it Back...love this song. Tell the boys to practice their Spanish guitar for the solo!

Drums are the weakest link at this point. Do you plan on using a live drummer on the final cut?

Hey Susie,

Thanks, and no... I haven't decided on one yet. We are hiring the artist who did Eden's Curse's album. It's been rated here as the best album cover of the year, so I don't think we can go wrong with him! Not to mention that Paul (from Eden's Curse) is playing bass for us... The guy works for Paul, so we're getting a really good deal.

I just want to focus on the songs first, and I'm so close now... I can see the end of the tunnel!!! :D

I agree 100%!!! I'm no drummer, but I manually play and record every track individually on my keyboards. It's a PAIN IN THE ASS!  I really have no idea what I'm doing on drums... I just try to put somthing there to keep time, and to move the songs along. It will DEFINITELY have live drums once we finish these last two demos.

GI, best wishes to your music, I always love it very much. You have a talent I wish I had. I am trying to sight read music in the college course I am taking...........  It is week two and I am quickly getting confused! LOL! But i love music so...... I want to learn to play guitar, maybe now in the summer I can take lessons. You have a wonderful gift, and it is so sweet you share it with us. Best wishes on your album! :D

That's great news on the album cover.
It's just that I don't post over here every day and I often miss stuff that happens. I didn't want to miss the unveiling of the cover!
But you are absolutely right to focus on the product first and the 'packaging' later.

It's all so exciting!!!!!!!!

I'm on a roll today!!! :D I finished writing the lyrics to the song I've posted, AND I just finished another brand new song (music AND vocals) that ROCKS!!! I started this new one this morning, and just finished it. No more ballads from me for a while now. :D I may post a clip tomorrow if I can get Alex's vocals back on them... Stay tuned. I believe I just wrote the last song for this damn album!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

The clips you've heard on here are for our song "I believe", and the new one I just finished is called "No Matter How Far". I can't wait for you to hear them. "No Matter How Far" starts out acapella, then the music kicks in with some serious guitars and keys!!! Tomorrow....Tomorrow..... Tomorrow...

I hate to bore some of you (Tom! ) on here, but Alex sent me a brand new solo on our song "Melinda" today that is by FAR, his best solo to date!!! And to think that I have TWO guitarists who are playing on this album who are this good!  Please check this out and let me know what you think. I just posted it on www.myspace.com/jimrykbost and it's called "Melinda-guitar solo". I was going to wait until this weekend when I have all new vocals on it, but I was too excited to wait!!! I hope you like this.

If you'd like to hear a comparison... check out the intro to "Losing You" to hear Jakk's guitar. They are both AMAZING, and they definitely turn these songs up a notch! :D

Hi Jim,

It's great playing, but I'm not sure it fits the vibe of the song. I hear something more simple, less notes and more melodic.

I think it gives the song a bit of a lift. It would be great to hear it mixed in so we could make a more clear judgment. I like it.

I like it too, great guitar solo, but is it in the right song? Dunno, as you say we need to hear it in context.
