Dude...you better watch it again or ask the doctors to clean your ears out if you really believe DSB sounded "great". I didn't even think it was good. Hell, Arnel fucked up several of the lyrics in their signature song! Arnel is a very good singer, but that was not a shining performance for him.

We will have to agree to disagree.

Lyrics aside, I thought he was spot on vocally.

Well then your idea of spot on and mine are totally different

I'm speaking in relative terms of course. It goes without saying that he's not Steve, but that was one of the best deliveries of DSB I've seen from Arnel. Far better than the Superbowl pre-game.

I have to agree, that Arnel has improved substantially from the Super Bowl game.

We will definitely agree to disagree, because he wasn't close to "spot on", vocally. If Arnel was "spot on" singing DSB, then I'm not sure what zone Perry was in singing it!

He definitely was not spot on today He was singing flat at times and sounded like he was struggling a little bit. Overall a fair performance.

I thought it was decent. Not great and not bad. When I saw him in Charlotte last year he was absolutely flawless. I am noticing this catalog is causing more rasp in his voice.

On another note, that stage was very wet and it would have been something if he jumped off that drum riser in SW and busted his ass on national TV.
Come back Steve Perry!!

just watched the show...from DVR it was good... not super...but better than the 2001 performance... now how is this for a change... I used to love JRNY because they were not cool to like... now is it weird, but now since its cool to like them... I am not into it as I was??? or after 20 concerts since 1999... burnt out from them... music is still great....and it always will be...but when ROSS said that they got their magic and the legacy sound... not even mentioning the HARD WORK AND LABOR of love that Augeri had to endure... with no respect... just hits me wrong...

Seperate ways sounded GREAT....DSB sounded tired... just my humble opinion...

hi all....

I thought AWYWI sounded horrible. The rest were fine. Also, I wouldn't get upset at the host for saying that they had been searching for a voice to replace Perry since he left, ignoring the SA/JSS years. They go off what the band's management/publicist give them. That story line was fed to them completely by the people that wanted that out there. And the average viewer probably could care less. What people should get up in that host's face about was her insistence on singing in the background going in and out of the commercial breaks. That was awful.

The sit-down interviews with Neal and Ross were taken directly from that feature on the band that aired on the CBS Sunday Morning (or whatever it's called) back in June of 2008 right before the Revelation Tour. It sucks he didn't mention SA during that piece, but the story was about finding Arnel and getting ready for a big album tour. It's not like he omitted Augeri once again during the taping for this CBS Early Show performance.

Finally saw the performance. Thought it got the job done. Above average, not spectacular. Better than the Early Show performance with Augeri in 2001, better than the Ellen show, better than the Super Bowl.

I'll agree with the people who said a few of the performances seemed tired. Good word to describe it. And I echo the people who said it was probably because of the weather delays and the fact that they had to do multiple takes of some songs. Interesting conditions. And I noticed that at the start of the second verse of Separate Ways, Arnel went to the side and motioned frantically for his ear monitors and microphone to be turned up. Might explain some of the places where I thought he timing was a little off (start of Never Walk Away, the 'all night...all night' sections of Any Way You Want It).

All things considered, a solid appearance.

BTW.... I do get it that the 4th generation of Journey is about ARNEL and NEAL now... this sound of journey now doesnt do it for me... loved Augeri's bluesy edge on arrival.....and the live shows with journey... its still good... just not GREAT...

Arnel kept tapping on his IEM, so I think he was having trouble hearing himself. I watched the whole thing, and didn't hear anything wrong except he did go flat on a note here and there. If his IEM wasn't working right, it's amazing he did as well as he did, and could have been the distraction that caused the confusion with the lyrics in DSB. Although I didn't even notice that, as I was at work and it was kind of noisy in the break room.

I noticed the same thing. He def was having trouble. They were getting a lot of feedback also. Wasn't the greatest of sets when it came to sound. Arnel messed up a lyric in NWA too. It was def problems to his ear piece as he was having trouble hearing himself at some spots. He did a nice job overall, esp in the conditions.

Arnel didn't embarrass himself at all ... overall, very good performance under pressure of live TV (at least it was taped live). Good to see Arnel losing the accent singing the songs ... guess he learned his lesson from that horrible SB performance.

Steve Augeri on Early Show 2001

Some interesting tidbit about how he was discovered by Neal. Prank call suspicion, some tape audition. Neal must be bored to death with this 'discovery' thing

I agree with Dan, I thought AWYWI was sung to a tee, and the best overall of any of the songs sung that day. DSB had it's moments, and also had a couple 'eh' moments. Looking at some of the taping video's, it looks like the equipment due to the weather threw the timing off of the band, esp for Arnel. B, B+ performance.

That bother's me a bid that SA is completely dis-regarded of all his time and years spent with the band. I see it as a management ploy as to maybe thinking having 2 lead singers since Perry, as hurting their reputation or makes them look bad in a way, esp when trying to describe a period to re-kindle their magic after a fall-out from a legend in Perry.

Two lead singers since Perry? Let's all count together...Augeri = 1 ... Soto = 2 (And yes, Soto counts, because the band publically announced him as their "permanent lead singer") ... and Pineda = THREE!

Long time reader, infrequent poster here..

Is it just me, or has Arnel lost all of his "dialectic coaching" and letting his accent slip back in BAD?
Example..."..a smeh of wine and sheep perfoom"

He says "smell", but I do hear "sheep". But you have to be actively listening for mistakes, otherwise it sounds fine. There's just a soured clump of people that want him to fail, and that's fucked up.
