If the dirty dozen was getting revamped and you could have either set of ballads added on a semi-permanent basis, which ones would you prefer?

Patiently/ Why Can't This Night Go On Forever

Turn Down The World Tonight/ What I Needed

I don't think this is one of the easier questions.

(Other stuff would have to be jettisoned of course, but let's forget about that for the moment).

If you like other combos, please say so and explain why.

I'd like to see alternate nites particularly at back to back shows.

I can't choose. I just want the best of both worlds. Actually, all 3... no make that all 4 worlds

I sure wouldn't miss Open Arms though. :D

As I said in the other thread, TDTWT/Patiently. I don't like What I Needed Very Much and I truly believe Why Can't This Night has gotten to its level of popularity just by the sheer mystique and folklore of its rarity at live shows... decent song, but far from one of their best ballads.

I just don't think Journey would do that on a regular basis (with the exception of tonight's show, maybe as it's a special occasion).

Right on the money, I think. The song floundered on the charts as Journey burn out ws taking over. Maybe, if they had played it regularly, it would come off as old and tired, a poor man's Faithfully.
I always hated how it ended right after the money notes, sort of abruptly, like an unfinished product, one verse short.

Drop OA and Lights. Neither of them do anything for me anymore.

I'd have to go with TDTWT and Patiently.

Yep, definitely a good assessment. Even Neal's nice melodic solo after the first chorus feels abruptly truncated to me.

You must, remember though, Neal said (as he say's every year) they want to rock harder, which would have to include live gigs also, right?
Dump Faithfully and OA to make room for all four?

Faithfully is gonna be a tough one. For me that song when done well is a highlight of the show. I think many fans come to hear it.

The group's plokker base absolutely love ballads and would probably want all of them. Neal is in a tough spot if he wants to rock.

Will Journey be labeled as Ballad Bombers for life?

Could Neal live with that?

No ones voting. Obviously a tough poll. I thought any option with TDTWT would take it as that was the "Can't miss song" of 2008 around these parts.

I think the Journey fan base out numbers the plokker base, but you're right about Neal being in a tough spot since I'm sure AP wants to appease his fans.

I guess it's wait and see (JC & AP vs NS?)

I guess we can't have the four. JC still wants OA and lights :(

If he wants to rock harder, then that eliminates all but What I Needed. It's edgier and might just be rocking enough to stay in. The others don't have a chance.

I chose WCTNGOF/Patiently because they're older. I'd like to get tired of them before I move onto something new to get tired of. 8)

I wonder how long AP was requesting/petitioning for last night's song to be performed?
Deen was probably like "Hey, that's my song!" when Patiently was mentioned. Drummer Boy shines on that one.

I would vote for "Turn Down The World Tonight" and "Why Can't This Night Go On Forever", even though that wasn't one of the combinations. I don't think you would see WCTNGOF added for one simple reason...It's a VERY difficult song to sing. While I think Arnel is a very accomplished vocalist, he isn't pulling that song off night after night! There is a reason that it's NEVER in the setlist! Schon has been on a mission for 10+ years to find a Perry clone, and even though he has finally gotten close to finding one for the first time ever, he is still intelligent (somehow intelligent and Schon simply don't look right in the same sentence!) to understand that there are some songs in the catalog that only Perry (in his prime) could pull off!

As for "Turn Down The World Tonight"...REALLY great song. It's easily the best song on Revelation, and one of the best Journey songs I've ever heard. If this were 1983, it would easily be the biggest hit Journey ever put out, in my opinion, but nobody gives a shit about a bunch of old fucks trying to hold on to their youth, at this point! Friga's piano throughout that song is haunting, in a great sort of way. It's a great song that the band should be proud of putting out. That song also illustrates how good these guys can sound with a guy who can actually sing!

After one day of voting, it appears the classic songs are running away with it. What happened to all of the TDTWT fans? Was the song overhyped simply because it was new? Where's the love?
(Personally, I thought it was the best song on Revelation)
