Dance version of Don't Stop Believing

Postby cheekymonkey » Sun Sep 06, 2009 11:51 am

I nearly drove off the road when I realized that the horrible song playing on the radio was a dance version of Don't Stop Believing. My ears started bleeding!!!! Who recorded that techno drival? How did they get the rights? If it is Arnel with the band then they have lost any respect I had for them.

If it wasn't the actual band performing it, Arnel, nor Journey has anything to do with it. You don't need the band's permission to do an audio cover. You just have to mail the publishers/songwriters a check based on how many discs you had pressed for release, along with some paperwork.

If Journey did something like this, Im sure they would have been pimping it at the official site.

I'm not very openminded when my ears are bleeding while I'm driving. There is just some shit I'll never be open to, and this was one of them.

Give Friga's recording of "Faithfully" a listen. It's a fucking horror show, and puke-inducing!

 I'm a glutton for punishment, so I went looking for that on YouTube and instead found a clip from the 'Journey Rock Special '83' set to 'Faithfully'. I liked seeing the guys getting set up to do a concert during the Frontiers tour:

Luckily for us, even youtube has enough sense not to put that out there. It's actually on one of Friga's solo CD's but if I were you, I certainly wouldn't pay money to listen to it, because it's painful. I will tell you this though...For anyone who really believes that it's about the band or the song and not the guy singing, this is the best proof you can ever give them. This song would still be unheard today, if "Journey" chose Friga to sing lead on this track!

Gens really is underrated because the shit that is on there is truly SHIT and the production really sucks. But FITH, PIYH, Better Life, Beyond The clouds, Never Too Late, and Out Of Harm's Way are all good to great songs for me.

I love Deen's vocals, so I'm hoping that when they put out their next CD package there will be some bonus tracks somewhere with live versions of Deen singing 'After the Fall' and 'Mother, Father'. He deserves the recognition and the pat on the back!

Well I'm glad to hear I wasn't the only one - I paid $17.99 off Amazon.ca! I hadn't been on MR long enough to know better  If you find Neal handing out refunds, can you get mine too? I think they should offer a deal to fans - send proof that you actually paid for 'Generations' and they'll send a coupon for $5 off the next release. :P

I wonder if they'll rework some of those songs the way they did for 'FITH' and put them out as bonus tracks. If they are doing another 3-disc release, I think they could do an entire disc of just bonus tracks! It was nice to hear Neal singing lead - I was really disappointed that he didn't have a chance to put out a new solo CD before the band started touring.

No it wasn't! It's one of many reasons that "Generations" was a fucking abortion! Schon is a great guitarist, not a vocalist. He shouldn't be destroying anything with the name "Journey" on it with his voice!

Good for you. Let your ears bleed while listening. In my opinion, Schon doesn't need to be singing lead on ANY "Journey" track. The brand name that pays Schon's bills wasn't built on his shitty voice, so he should have a little more respect for it!

Guaranteed my ears don't bleed. Schon has a good voice and does well. Since Journey's music is built around vocals probably not the best spot for it, but as a one-off I have no problem with it. And yes, I do like Self-Defense. OK, go ahead........

He sounds good on People and Places and the Schon Hammer stuff. He shouldn't be singin all the time, but there are far worse "lead" singers out there that sing every song.

+1
I wasn't nominating Neal to take over as Journey's lead singer, but he was great on 'People and Places' and I like his solo work too. No bleeding ears here either! But having all of the guys singing lead on various songs was just a bad idea from start to finish. I think Rick's mention of 'Gone Crazy' applies in more ways than one.
