Surely that was recorded.

Are you talking about the download festival in donnington?

If so, were we listening to the same band? I've not heard Journey sound worse....and I've been in the audience at a a great deal of live journey shows...

I loved the raw edge of that online show. It just seemed to buzz. Although borderline overboard, I could hear the punch of every single instrument. And what I really loved was that it was just a much harder show that didn't seem to slow down. I don't care who thinks it was good or bad, I liked it because it was different.

Maybe they'll put it out on DVD...as long as they photoshop Cain's wardrobe. Ha.

You might be talking about the Graspop festival. That was a fantastic livefeed performance of the concert. Loved it.

Then we're definitely not talking about the same show. Journey's live mix at Download was abysmal. You could barely hear Friga's boards....and judging from the sound of it, neither could the band...

The show being discussed is the Graspop show--NOT Download. The whole Graspop show is up on youtube, but in a poor version with clipped sound (someone didn't record it correctly off the feed). Amazing show nonetheless, and one of the best performances I've seen from Journey in the last 10 years.

Just clips of it don't do it justice. It's watching the full show uninterrupted from beginning to end with the filming on stage, not from some fans in the audience, fantastic energy from the band, especially Arnel, and the crowd, and the sound was great. They rocked that show.

There are some audience vids there, but the official pro-shot video is online also, but split into the separate songs. I agree that one song doesn't do it justice--you have to watch the entire show in order to get the full effect. Oh, if I could only find a version without the clipped sound though, as the audio that was streamed was SO much better. Too bad the recorder screwed up the sound when they captured it. The band was firing on all cylinders that day, with maybe the heaviest set I have heard them do.

I've seen those, too. But just not the same split up. I would love to have a full video of that show that day. They were definitely firing on all cylinders, like you say.

It's not as good with the clipped audio, but you CAN burn a cd of the full show put together by ripping the audio, and it still rocks.

Journey's worse nightmare, more likely. The last piece of evidence needed to keep them from being recognized as a legitimate hard rock act.

Yeah, this was it...that thing in Belgium where they opened for Korn & Slipknot. We all thought that was kind of a joke, but the band really kicked it into gear that day and did more than hold their own.

Ya know, we've all seen Journey at least a hundred times over the years, but this show kept you glued. All 75 or 90 mins or whatever it was, seeing it end to end was captivating. Even though I knew all the songs, everything seemed to be jacked-up a few more clicks.

All new and no covers. My only complaint with Revelation is that it wasn't long enough and had two covers to make matters worse, not that they were bad, but I want all new material.

my theory is that Kevin Shirley heard the material, and wanted to get a few songs that he really liked available to a wider audience. It's not like anyone other than the diehards ever heard the Generations material, so 98% of the people buying the album didn't know the songs had already been released. I doubt you'll get any more redos on the next album for that reason.

As far as length goes, I'd MUCH prefer 10 songs that are really good, than 10 songs that are really good and 5 so-so songs. Quality over quantity.

Good fucking lord!

The only way Arnel and Journey are going to claw their way out from under the putrid stink they left with tapegate and the backstabbing associated with it....is to release quality ORIGINAL music. 10-15 good original songs, including some with writing credits from the standing singer (and not previous singers or almost-singers).....

Stay away from the fucking ballads....to a rocker/ballad ratio of no less than 5:1....and just keep hammering the public with good music that doesn't have diction issues.

That's the *only* way this album improves upon rev.

Granted, I think another key component is to send Cave-drunk back home to his bottle......and to find another producer. But you can't have everything....

If that were to become the new business model for the band, you would have to ask yourself, What was the point of having a nine year agreement (or whatever it was) with Perry if you are going to keep paying him every time you have a major release?

Don't these people understand that the songwriters have to be paid regardless, whether they're in the band or not? Do they want to continue to see Perry getting paid for Arnel's own recordings of the songs, not to mention, having SP's name mentioned every time those songs gets played in public?
I'm sure Perry doesn't mind cashing those checks but Arnel wouldn't really be benefiting from this in the long run. As long as the band would stay tethered to Perry via re-records, Pineda would continue to be known mostly to the masses as "some Asian guy who sounds like Steve Perry". I can't imagine AP wants that.

It sounds like the band will have to make a conscious decision with the next album to either break off in a new direction or maintain their current course which even they describe as honouring SP's legacy sound. Finding a new producer might have been a step in the right direction for finding a fresh sound, but it seems like they're sticking with their old one. I was hoping for Mutt Lange, but now that I hear SP is heading into the studio, perhaps he can tap Mutt's talents for his solo CD. They are both apparently unrelenting perfectionists, so that collaboration might produce some great music.

With a new, younger lead singer, this is probably Neal's last chance to make a Journey album that rocks harder, so I hope the band digs their heels in and refuses to ballad up.

Yes, I know! Like I said, you can't have everything.....

...they and alot of other bands, need to get away from his production. I feel he's part of the problem in rock music produced here in the states, not at all part of any solution.

Since Journey is known for turning out hot ballads, I have no problem with 2 ballads, but the rest of the album had better rock...and only 2 if it's 2/15 songs minimum.
