Favorite shitty beer

Postby Ehwmatt » Thu Sep 10, 2009 4:26 am

In celebration of the imminent NFL season, what is your favorite cheap, shitty beer? Mine is undoubtedly Red Dog. Originally made to be a banquet beer for Miller's product line, it turned out to not be so banquet in consumers' eyes. Nonetheless, it's a lager with some body, which distinguishes it taste wise and gives it some real flavor compared to PBR, Busch, and even Miller Lite and Coors Light. More importantly, at 5% a can/bottle, it'll fuck you up faster. Even more important, a case of 24 bottles or 30 aluminum cans can be found for $12.25-12.75 depending on where you are. Finally, it has one of the coolest beer mascots of all time. Nothing gets me drunk quicker on game day than some good ol' Red Dog.

Red Dog's got my vote!

One problem. PBR is not shitty any more. A major comeback. I can drink a case of that shit and go play a 5 set tennis match against Vitas fuckin Gueralitas...and although I wouldn't beat him, I would definitely get some "Euro-Italian smell like shit" smack in on his oily ass.

You can still find the commercials on YouTube. Motorcycle, Artesians and the Hamms Bears.

Gotta go with old milwaukee. when I was at university we'd go donate plasma, cash the checks and buy a few big bottles of that stuff. We'd be drunk as shit on about a dollar and eighty cents.

That is a dynamite reference to Vitas. So you're telling me a case of PBR won't make you shit yourself on your way to the can in the morning any more?

It's fun talking about beer, but I have had no beer since the 5th of last month. Unfortunately, beer is not helping my need to keep my weight in check and drinking ridiculous quantities of it had to stop....and one other choice, wife or beer. But I was just a drunk, unlike those alcoholics who have to go to those meetings.

Decisions, decisions...... it's too hard to say. I have it narrowed down to Pabst Blue Ribbon, Colt 45 & Old Milwaukee but I mostly stick with my Michelob Ultra. I don't drink anything but beer but I gotta watch how much I drink now that I'm over 30 or else I could drink myself right out of a job.

Rick, you cheap fucker!!! Go buy some Bud Light!   I remember the town I grew up in in Oregon sold beer that was just called "Beer". It had black letters, and a white label. I think that shit was around $6 a case back then.  I never DID buy any, but I don't think I missed out on anything... :D

Folks, stay away from shitty beer. I've never had a hangover on Becks or any other german beer brewed under the German Purity law of 1516....and trust me, any given friday night, I put away enough beer to kill a small child.

But if I consumed the same amount of keystone light, red dog or budweiser.....I'd be throwing up the volume-equivalent of my CD collection the very next morning.

It's just not worth it.

A 12 pack of good beer will run you 15 bucks. So, a cheap brew will run you half that. Is saving 7 bucks on a friday night bender worth it, if you're going to spend all day saturday horking it back up?

Gotta love the Schlitz! Didn't know they still brewed it until I just googled it.

Guess they have brought back the 1960's formula that made it the most popular beer in the country back in the day. They have a hot babe helping with the marketing as well.

I agree with you. Budweiser gives me a spliting headache the next day. Bud Light does NOT. At least to me, and I've been drinking it for years! I went through phases when I was younger where I would drink Coors Light, Red Dog, Schlitz (yes... Schlitz Malt liquor! ), then I switched to Budweiser, then finally to Bud Light. When I was younger, I drank whiskey and Cokes (for years). I don't drink ANY hard liquor anymore. EVERY time I do... something bad happens, and I always have some apologizing or explaining to do! Bud Light is fine with me. :D

Those are my two shitty/cheap beers. When I drink normally I'll get Shiner, Fat Tire or Coors Light.

Hard Liqueur is part of my friday night ritual. Sometimes you need a primer to make that 12 pack go the distance...
Vodka, Whiskey, Tequila or if I'm feeling Piratey...Rum....
but as long as you chase it down with some german beer, you wont feel a thing the next morning! ;)

As far as light beer....I don't drink it....Up until recently, light beer only saved you ~ 50 calories. A regular beer was 150 and a light beer was around 100. But, a regular beer was 4-5% alcohol and a light beer was around 2%.....So really, if you're drinking as a means to an end....and who doesn't!

It actually doesn't pay to drink light beer.....plus, I've never consumed a light beer that didn't taste like water....and that includes beck's light.

Growing up all we drank was Coors and then Coors Light when it came out.

Then things changed. First, I drank 4 or 5 Coors "Ice" beers and got an instant splitting headache. Now everytime I drink a Coors product I get a headache. Weird.

Then I had a trip to Germany and spent 4 days drinking nothing but Pils and Alt beers.

Then the microbrew craze hit. Now it is Boulevard Pale Ale or other flavor depending on the day (or season) for me. When traveling, I try to check out the local microbrews.

I was a huge Microbrew fan until I decided to violate my german beer rule and suck down a 12 of saranac. The next morning, I was a little under the weather....so I've sworn that shit off too...

Also, hate Sam Adams....something about that fucking beer makes me fester and boil in Red Sox Nation hatred....maybe because it's the whole Boston thing...even though Sam Adams is a fraud and most of that shit is brewed in Ohio......

I wanna do the whole Stu thing....he was saying on another board that he brews his own. I gotta try that!!!

There are a couple of guys at work that do that. They save a little money, not much, but you can make it exactly like you like it. I've sampled some of it, and I thought it was damn good.

Yeah, I wouldn't do it to save money....just for the novelty of trying it...

Granted, to me the perfect beer is Becks. I would be just trying to improve on perfection and failing miserably....
