Journey Forum?

Ok, the new main board is here to stay. It is a fantastic community of people and will remain the top board.

But.... Out of interest, do folks want a dedicated Journey board back, that will be 100% on topic for discussion of the band solely?

Of course there should be a Journey Forum. Can't even imagine a MelodicRock message board without a band that represents the genre so well.
I'm thinking that as long as the topics would stay strictly related to Journey, why not? But I'm afraid that old habits die hard... :lol:

Give it a try, though, Andrew. You always have the option to recycle-bin it if it doesn't work.

I didn't know there was anything wrong with the way the forum WAS? :shock:

To me, all of us in here are, or WERE Journey supporters. Journey is what got all of our asses in here! Sure there are a LOT of OT subjects (I'm extremely guilty of that! :lol:

), but the overall theme in here is that we're Journey fans. I'm sure once there is NEW Journey news, this place will be full of Journey talk.

Let's face it... even though Journey is out there touring their butts off, they aren't doing anything NEW right now. Just the same old songs, so there's nothing we haven't discussed about them a hundred times.

I say just keep it how it was, but it's your world Andrew... call it whatever you want but we'll still be here! :lol:

I voted yes only because there are people who are without someplace to talk about Journey. However, we all know some will not be able to keep it just to Journey nor will they be able to stop the personal attacks to others. So really it's a toss up do you or do you not?

If there is a Journey board and you can't go OT, then there needs to be a general board like this at the top also. A journey only board would die off fast. Journey brought me here but the OT's are what keep me reading

Honestly Andrew, every person here is a dedicated Journey fan, one era or another. Not a lot is going on with the band so we keep in touch with the O.T. stuff.

As for the fighting, what can I say, it is a bit like people in a work place, they get on each others nerves due to their personality differences. The chance that so many would get along at all times would be slim to none. I just think the personal attacks need to stop. But that is just my oppinion.

It is amazing with so little going on just now, that we all still want to keep in touch, blow off some steam and joke around. I guess if it is a strictly Journey discussion only thread, I would abide by your rules. After all this is your place. But I would visit less. Not much is going on, and if I want to read people grappling over weather ROR was as strong as Escape for the 40 th time, there are plenty of sites to do so.

What makes this place fantastic is we can discuss most anything. We get to know people all over the world, get to know their insights...........there is no place on the web like it. Take that away and it becomes another site for people to fawn endlessly over a band. Like a lot of the Steve Perry sites. I think it would be a bit sad.

But as I said, this is your house. And whatever you decide, I will respect it.

Sometimes, an OT is from an OnT thread, I'm not sure how is that fixed though or if it is even necessary to fix. I agree for OT threads, there must be a way to move them to a "trash" area. More mods maybe to help the cleaning... might as well turn this back into Journey forum

Yes, a separate Journey forum because Journey talk gets lost in all the OT stuff. Too much to sift through. Plus Journey gets credit for all the traffic over other bands below when much of the talk isn't even about them so separating the band and general discussion would be a more accurate accounting.

If you do it, you're going to have to police the jrny board for a few weeks, moving OT posts, until folks 'get' it.....because posters will likely try to test the boundaries quite a bit....

i.e. it's going to require a bit more work.

Just an ordinary plokker here giving my two cents. It's your board, you can do whatever you want but since you asked for an opinion........

I don't know how can you not a have a Journey forum, it's the Journey fans that made this board famous. Even if the band is not grateful to having a board dedicated to them, you should at least thought of the fans. What would you rather have, an ungrateful band with passionate fans that rock your board (with more than 580k views) or a very grateful band/artist that has less following, with more than 50k views to date?

Plus Journey is one of the most melodic rock band getting a second life. I will bet you, that if you put a separate Journey forum it will surpass the views/hits of all the artist forums right now combined (except this one, of course), within a short period of time. There will be lots of things to talk like another surprise song, Oprah show, another album to record, the MOA DVD, the documentary of Arnel, etc.

Derailment cannot be avoided but we can always go back to topic.

Give it a shot and see how it goes. It would be cool if this top forum stayed lively and the dedicated Journey forum stayed on topic. Of course, if a frog had wings, he wouldn't bump his ass when he hopped.

I have to admit I felt a little sheepish telling the White Sister guys at Firefest last year (at 4 a.m. when we closed down the bar) that they kicked major ass and we'd be sure to tell everyone at MR how great they sounded -- but they'd have to go to the Journey forum to read it.

My only concern is that it would split up the forum regulars. I hardly ever read or post in any other forum here except for this one. The Steve Perry forum was popular for a few days and then everyone came back here. Take vhlinks.com for example... Van Halen is the main topic. Take the Van Halen name away and the forum would probably lose its popularity among the band's fans. I think it works to have the forum focused on Journey because there is always some kind of controversy to talk about (Neal makes sure of that). But you never know.

Chubby deep breaths....it's going to be alright.....he will bring it back..it's just not going to be the same there....the whole lot of us are way too dysfunctional to keep it OT....so most of us will be in the Forum that has the revolving lead singer ooops I mean title :lol:

While you're about making changes, Andrew......could you add a link at the top by the heading somewhere that takes you from the forums to the front page?
When you start at the front page you can hit the link to the forums but there isn't one to click on to go to the front page of the site if you start in the forums.
Both can be bookmarked of course to readily go to it but it would be more convenient if there was a link to the front page from here to easily click on instead of backtracking or having to have both earmarked. Just wondering.

Here's how I feel... the more complex message boards are, the less likely the majority of members are to use the different areas. Most people naturally gravitate toward one or just a few areas, and those being the ones which allow the most range of topics. It makes it tougher to keep up with your threads without having to bounce back and forth so much.

As it is, I post most of my band or artist topics here regardless of whether that band/artist has their own forum or not. It's just easier, and I know this one gets the most traffic.

I wasn't really for separating out the Steve Perry section from the Journey section either, since he is a huge part of Journey history. But I can understand wanting to create a separate Journey forum which is all on-topic, and having a catch-all place for OT stuff like this one is. At most, I'd go with creating the separate Journey forum but add Steve Perry back into it. Maybe call it Journey / Steve Perry if you had to. Just keep it as simple as possible.
