I've been on vacation & so I haven't had the chance to weigh-in on this discussion until now. My apologies upfront if I repeat what someone else has already said. There are way too many "red" items on the threads for me to read everything that I missed & so I gotta pick & choose.
I believe the question here is "Should Andrew create a separate Journey-ONLY forum while keeping the forum that is currently being referred to as the "Center For Research Into Irrelevant Posts & Replies" for OT stuff? WHEW! (say that 3 times fast.) My thoughts are this: Personally, I don't care if Journey & OT stuff are together or separate. What I
don't want to see is Journey & Steve Perry stuff combined. When Andrew first announced he was going to create a separate Perry forum I was one of those people who thought it was a bad idea b/c most of us have become like "family" & so to me it was a divorce with Perry getting custody of half of us & Journey getting custody of the other half.
Well, now that the divorce has gone through, I have changed my opinion completely! To me, it's the perfect solution. I can visit Perry as often as I like & then go home to Journey. When the two forums were combined there was way too much bickering from current Journey fans that the die-hard Perry fans were derailing every thread with their incessant need to remind the Journey-ites that Perry is Lord. The flip side, of course, was that the die-hard Perry fans were sick of hearing reviews on every single stop on this summer's Journey concert tour, citing that one review is exactly the same as the next. In addition to those complaints, there were complaints from current Journey fans regarding all the salivating that went on over the posted Perry pics from yesteryear. There was also the reoccurring heated debate over who's to blame for Perry's departure from the band & who screwed over who?---Was it Steve's fault? Was it Neal's?---& so forth! Separating the two entities was the best decision Andrew has ever made. Sometimes divorce is the only answer & it was definitely so in THIS case. We can always visit one another. Plus, it works out perfectly that each of the forums share joint custody of the adopted children: Soto & Augeri.
As for keeping a separate OT/Irrelevant/Bullshit or whatever-you-want-to-call-it forum, my only concern is this: What's allowed & what's not? We need a specific "Here Are The Rules" disclaimer that specifically defines what is able to be discussed, posted.... & so forth. Did I mention it had to be specific? None of this vague baloney where we have to read each other's minds. We've all been dinged on things so I'm sure I'm not the only one here when I say I've been dinged on things I've posted that I have never read were not allowed. As most of you probably have done, I, too, have read every single page of the 15 page "RESPECT WHEN POSTING" thread as well as having done numerous Keyword searches to try & decipher what I can & cannot say, but I have been met with little success. This is what I know: (1) Do not be disrespectful towards any past or present members of any bands (2) Do not overuse the word "Friga." (3) Do not make any derogatory gay comments. (4) Do not post pictures of any naked male body parts. (5) Do not personally attack any members or moderators of this board. That is it. That is all I have been able to come up with. Outside of that, I have read that everyone is supposed to feel welcome when they come here & that this forums' byline "Anything, anytime" means just that. But does it really?
