Concept albums

The Rise & Fall Of Ziggy Stardust & The Spiders From Mars

Dark Side Of The Moon

Quadrophenia

At Folsom Prison

Mothership Connection

There can also be albums done with a loosely interwoven theme thoughout, but not a concept album in the strictest definition.

Neal- Retire, give it up ..... Soto gave you & your cohort a chance and you flubed that. Steve Perry was a " Hard habit to break" Thanks Chicago ! I haven't felt your band was really Journey in years.

Not sure about a theme, but the "concept" was to have each person in the band sing a song.

I think we're on different pages concerning the definition of Concept Album.

The way I understand it:
All songs contributing to a single overall theme or unified story

Yeah, I kind of figured that's what you meant. Not a big fan of those types of albums, overall.

I wonder if Neal even knows what he is talking about, sometimes.

Better for him to stick with the Harder rocking line that he issues on an annual basis.

i'm wondering as well...

""Things have really turned around for us," Schon said. "We played Darien Lake (N.Y.) the other night, by ourselves, and we had over 10,000 people. It's pretty amazing. Times are tough, and I look around and hear about other tours with very big name bands that aren't getting half of what we're getting."

who is he talking about?

Come on dude! Soto was no missed opportunity. The band's decision makers keep them from going other directions with their music. Arnel can go anywhere the music take them.

Maybe he meant he was thinking up ideas for an album while he was getting some girl pregnant.

You Journey haters are in some serious ignorant denial. The economy is terrible in Upstate NY....it was low 50's and raining....the tix were pricey...and Journey drew 14k by themselves....thats very impressive, especially considering that several acts have come to Darien with multi-bands and flopped the last 2 summers.

Facts are facts guys.

You're usually WAY more open-minded than this Lula.

first off, i'm not a journey hater, journey music is among my very favorite. i'm not a fan of revelation, but that does not make me a hater. i am asking a legitimate question. what "very big name bands aren't getting half of what we're (journey) getting"?

i'm just wondering who neal is referring to. he is making a statement and i am asking for clarification, nothing more, nothing less.

Yes, or at the bare minimum, songs that flow together continuously on the CD with no interruption and common musical motifs throughout... think A Wizard, A True Star by Todd Rundgren

Sorry Lula...

I can tell you I saw Whitesnake/Priest, Queensryque, Creed and Leppard/Poison/Trick.........and Journey outdrew all of them

Not trying to down Journey or any of the other bands mentioned (even though I hate Queensryche (notice the correct spelling))....but this is all entirely dependent on the region of the country, the support acts, the varying ticket prices (and the economy), etc, etc.

I think Journey has had their fair share of half-empty halls. Even with Heart as a supporting act, Journey had a half-empty Nassau Colluseum when they came to Long Island recently. If you take the seat totals that Nassau Colluseum can hold...and compare it to the 5/6 filled Jones Beach ampitheatre when I saw Whitesnake/Judas Priest....It's quite clear to me that Whitesnake/Priest outdrew Heart/Journey.

So really, it's all very relative.

Again, not busting on Journey or any of the other bands....I really think a better comparison would be to compare the gross of each of these bands' tours at the end of the year and see who dragged in the most scratch. Granted, given my background, I'd prefer to see the net...but we're not going to convince any of the bands to show us the books on these tours... ;)

When I think of a concept album, ELO's "Time" comes to mind.
