Kiss 1 Journey 0

Well Kiss was finally nominated for the RRHOF and once again Journey was ignored. I have to say I've never been a Kiss fan. I thought their music was just OK and never got the stupid makeup and costume thing, but I know there are a lot of you on the forum who love them, so this isn't about hating Kiss.

One of the other groups nominated were the Stooges. Really... the Stooges! I'm not talking Larry, Curly & Moe here. There is something so wrong with the selection process that a group like Journey doesn't even merit a nomination and the f***ing Stooges do! OK, my venting is over.

It's really too bad since Journey has a way better catalog of songs than Kiss. I guess the music doesn't matter anymore. So what is the RnRHOF for again?

No kidding, the only big hit I can even think of is Rock n Roll All Night. Granted I'm not a fan, but that is the only song that ever entered my consciousness.

I'm a Kiss lover and I am thrilled!! I love their live shows more than
just about anyone....Fun, Fun, Fun!!!! I happen to love their catalog, as well!!
But if I were going to pick one over the other in terms of talent (all the way around) catalog, vox, instrumental,
it would definitely be Journey!! When the term COMMERCIAL is used to describe a band, KISS is what pops in my
little ol' head!!! :wink:

Kiss just have a show in July that had 80k in attendance. Still drawing that kind of crowd helps, along with being on AI this last season.

I'm sure notoriety isn't a pre-req for consideration, but it sure does make you known. So in some sort of subconscious fashion, I'd bet that Journey just isn't 'known' enough. They've always been far too vanilla. I suspect this is also pretty much the same reason why none of the guys are household names.

You're probably right, If the members of Journey had been shooting heroin, in and out of rehab and Steve Perry had committed suicide or died in a tragic auto-erotic hanging accident instead of quietly retiring and going to the Giants games, they probably would have gotten in years ago. :twisted:

KISS is a pretty good band. But, for me, it's hard to look at grown men in makeup and high heels. It just looks stupid and it's hard to take seriously. Aside from that nonsense, their shows are incredible and are really an experience in and of themselves. I've seen them a few times and enjoyed every show. Even the one where I left with a fucking sunburn from being too close to the pyrotechnics. Love Gun remains in my Top 25 songs of all-time. Truly a great song.

My intent for this post was not to dis Kiss. They've had a long and very successful career and their fans love them. I just feel there are other groups from that era that are just as deserving of recognition as Kiss.

I never understood Kiss. The one thing they have going for them minus their terrible vocals, is their stage show. Alot of people obviously love old men dressing up in halloween costumes wearing high heel boots and spitting blood. Not my thing. Journey vs. Kiss, come on no comparison! Journey actually had more than 2 hits in the U.S. and they can actually sing live. I cant even think of more than 3 kiss songs I know off the top of my head, heck you could go on and on with journey's catalogue. Im not trying to bring Kiss fans down, just saying that its not my thing, and I really dont think they had a huge influence on music. I would agree that they are geniuses when it comes to theatrics and stage shows, and also marketing their name. I would say Chicago had alot more "musical" influence than Kiss anyday.

You may not like them, but Iggy Pop & The Stooges were incredibly influential. In theory, the RORHOF is about influence and lasting legacy, not a popularity contest. Although IMO, the Stooges, Kiss, and Journey all deserve recognition by the hall.
