Listening to Tom Petty is like eating a big delicious meal with a pint of Guinness. It's always satisfying. Lyrically, melodically. His voice, which I used to think was just a Dylan ripoff, is great. He's my ipod road buddy.

I love Tom Petty's studio work. Honestly, his live performances leave a little to be desired... they don't play loud enough, the backing vox are missing something, etc...

But you can't deny he's a hell of an artist.

My latest favorite is "Crawling Back To You" from the Wildflowers album.

I believe that "The Waiting" has perhaps the most perfectly constructed chorus of all time.

Man, I love that song too. I wrote a song about 10 years ago called "Holding On To You" that was inspired by HCMG. Everyone that listened to it thought that it was a Journey rip-off. That was before my whole "life hands you lemons" revelation.

As much as I love Petty my knowledge beyond the hits and the Wilburys is pretty limited....I need to get into some of the deeper cuts.

Steve, it's the whole package for me!! I do love Petty's voice but not because of his technical ability....And he's a master songwriter....Will be back in Falls Church in December I think!

Petty is my favorite songwriter. Period.

The Waiting live is a feast.... especially the way Petty holds that A chord and baits the crowd...
