More than he should. I say sing it your own way with respect to the original. Don't try to mimic. The first line in the song made me want to click it off.

Yeah, but people want Perry so badly they go for it. They don't want another singer for Journey. Arnel fits because he emulates Steve Perry so good. It has nothing to do with Arnel being Arnel... it has to do with Arnel being Steve Perry.

8)

I don't know about anyone else, but I don't think Arnel sounds just like Steve Perry or tries to emulate him in appearance or gesture. I think he tries to sing the classics as written but thats all. I also have never longed for Perry to get back with the band...I think if he ever does sing again he should just do his own thing.. I'd rather hear something new and different from him, rather then Journey songs...he can't do them any better then he already did so I say move on.

I agree on the vast majority of what he sings, but the first line of When You Love A Woman in the video posted above didn't work for me as far as that's concerned. Sounded like he tried too hard to emulate SP. Other than that, he's golden with me.

Unfortunitely for Arnel, he's damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. The comparisons will be made when singing the same material as they have been when others have sang it....Augeri got the same thing and so did Soto. People will say that the sound was too close or not close enough and scrutinize every phrase. It all gets overly silly and nitpicky, imo. I just like to hear good singers sing and appreciate each individuals talents.

You took the words right out of my mouth!! I was just saying this last night. Damn if he does and damn if he doesn't. I think SP has the best voice of any man to walk on this planet but I did appreciate both Augeri and Soto both for bringing what they did to this band but DAMN it's just not hard to love Arnel!!! I have liked him from day one just because of his powerful voice and his loving manner! This is an exceptional DVD and I still say Deen Castronvo is definitely their biggest secret weapon. Hearing him sing is just magnificent while beating on those drums!!
Come back Steve Perry!!

I only drink beer anymore, and I only do that when I don't have to work the next day. The ramp is a bad place to have a hangover. Too hot and too loud out there. If you sneak up in the cockpit and hit the oxygen mask it sure helps though.

Hey Meatloaf was just on GhostHunters. His concerts will draw big now! ;)
Jason and Grant can come out and air guitar on some tunes.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Yes! I need to include Deen in this previous post I made because he is also one of Journey's lead singers and does exceptionally well. :)

"I don't think about what might have beens. It just wasn't meant to be for Jeremey to be in the band for whatever reasons. Time marches on for everyone...Soto moved on doing his own thing and Jeremey moved on with his own band and started working on his own material and is going to start introducing some of his songs in his shows. We do have the best of all....we can still hear Jeremey sing, JSS sing, Augeri sing, Arnel sing and hopefully we will hear Perry sing again as well next year. It's all good, imo. " + Deen

In my opinion, I think the band just lost favor with the fans when the band stopped at the height of their popularity because of Perry's injury. So when they started touring with Augerie, they still got decent crowd here and there but majority of their fans just moved on.

Those bands that still sell stadiums, do any of them ever stopped performing for more than 8-10 years?

I have been on the road since Thursday and haven't had opportunity to stop into Wal Mart yet. However, someone within the Journey organization should be sending me a copy at some point in the near future so I'm looking forward to seeing it!

The Eagles & Pink Floyd both took quite a break from another. Not sure how long, though.

After eight or more years of absence, you cannot expect people to give the same support especially if you're coming out with a new frontman, even if that frontman (Steve Augerie), sounded so much like SP.

Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

Well tonight while my wife was busy talking in the other room with a few of her other Japanese girlfriends, I got to watch some of those Manila vids on youtube. I watched DSB and SW and I can truthfully and honestly say that in those two songs, Arnel sounds exactly the same as he did back 20 years ago singing them in Cal-Jams. His voice has really not changed one bit with those two songs. I've not watched any others such as Lights or Faithfully, not even sure if these two were done recently in Manila, but I swear it's like Arnel's voice is exactly as it was back when he was 20 years old, or at least with those two songs. Yes, I think I'll be getting the DVD for myself.
I've never eaten a piece of sushi I didn't thoroughly enjoy.

Just saw U2 a few weeks ago in Chicago. Sold out two nights at Soldier Field which holds 60,000 people. Let's see U2 pull that off with a Bono replacement. It can't and won't happen. Anrel is great, and he is everything that Journey needs right now. But his claim to fame is his ability to channel Steve Perry.

Bon Jovi sold out all 100 shows of their tour last year.

Queen sold out stadiums all around the world on their last tour with Paul Rogers. Even fucking Meatloaf sells out Wembley, and the guy doesn't have a voice anymore.

Unless your replacement singer is a legend like Queen had, you're going to be one step behind the big boys no matter how well your singer can mimic the original vocalist.

Journey gets so little respect. (Imagine picture of Rodney Dangerfield) But why did so many bands emulate them?

U2 is a good call but they have their lead singer who can AND wants to continue to perform.

While Queen did fine with Paul Rodgers, then praytell, do they no longer want to tour with him and were rumored to be thinking of giving Adam Lambert a try? Did they want to intentionally go 1 step back as you put it, considering they had a Bad Company Legend in the forefront, OR did they want to get back to their way of performing complete with a flamboyant front man? While Lambert and Queen haven't said anything, it's out there. That decision will make some news either way.
