Message to band from SP!!

Postby Tomulator » Tue Oct 06, 2009 3:39 am

Didn't see this anywhere on MR...but I'm sure it is. Anyway...read the last page. A message was sent from Perry to the band via Oprah's producers.

A Message from Steve Perry:

In a statement sent to Oprah Show producers, Steve wishes the band well. "Though we've gone our separate ways, I will be forever grateful for our time together…the music we created…and our faithful fans," he writes. "Continued success to all of you."
Forever Yours Faithfully!

I think I want to leave my comment here. Waaaay too noisy upstairs. Even an analytical pain in the ass Virgo like me can have a brain arrest after 5 minutes in there.haha

I don't even know what's to debate about it. SP's message is SOP. He was contacted for a statement, he made a very classy one, end of story, let him go back to work.

Don't get me wrong I love Steve Perry, but while everybody is praising him for what a great and wonderful person he is, what did you expect him to say... really? Does anyone seriously think he was going to go and get all Serena Williams on Neal? Give me a break! I can't believe this even merited a thread in either forum. IMO

I thought about posting a thread titled "Steve Perry On Oprah" , if nothing more than to just ask if he had ever been on the show. Then I thought better of it. People would have thought I was the biggest asshole on the planet once they realized it was not an announcement. The thread also would have had 10,000 + views within the first 45 minutes.

+1

It sounds like a canned standard response from Perry to these types of inquiries. As a matter of fact, it seems to me I've heard this response, verbatim, on at least one other occasion. It's like the "little black dress" of responses to requests for statements about Journey. It goes with everything. Just cut, paste, and send.

Well, he didn't have to say shit about Journey being on the show at all. But he took time to do so and it was a really nice thing for him to do. Can you see any of the others making such a statement about Steve when/if his new material comes out? I guess we'll have to wait and see if they will or not. But I think the topic merited a thread or two. IMO.

Studio X. Steve Perry is in the middle of a writing session. Man walks in.

Man: Excuse me Mr. Perry, phone call for you.
SP (annoyed): Dude! I’m trying to write a song here!
Man: Sorry, but they said it’s urgent.
SP: Urgent? URGENT?? *throwing his hands in the air* THIS album is urgent, man!!
(SP turns to the mic and begins humming a catchy chorus)
Man: But…Mr. Perry, they are waiting for you on the line. It’s The Oprah Show.
SP (abruptly stops singing and stares): Who?
Man: Umm…You know….Oprah Winfrey.
SP: What? They want to use Don’t Stop Believin’ when she walks in? Is there any killing going on?
Man (looks baffled): Err…killing?
SP (losing his patience): Oh just forget it. For-get-it!
*stops breathing for a second then yells* FAK! I forgot where the chorus was going!! *takes his head in his hands and sobs softly*
Man: You taking the phone call, Mr. Perry?
SP (motionless): What do they want?
Man: A statement about Journey.
SP (sobbing louder): And for THAT you made me lose 10 minutes AND a song???
Man: Sorry... but they said it was urgent.
SP: Okay... (tears choking some of his words, parts of them muffled ): Tell them this…Thoughyou’d sell your mommas to have me back, we've gone our separate waysI will appreciate it if all of you will be forever grateful for what I did for you…You wouldn’t be on Oprah if not for our time together…I sang the music we created...remember?…Well, so does Oprah and our faithful fans. I wish I would have continued this new song but you had to be on Oprah, didn’t you?… I still provide more success to all of youdon’t I? *wiping his tears, he looks at the man* Get it?
Man(puzzled): Umm...I think so. I will deliver the statement.
SP: Yes, do it. And I wanna know if there will be some killing going on...mmkay?

Man walks out and hears behind him "I forgot the frikkin' song!!!"
