I thought I could play it in the background tonight and get some paperwork done but I can't keep my eyes off the screen.

I surrender.

I haven't watched ALL of it yet, but have probably seen 80%. I like it overall, but it seems to have a lot of darkness in the video. Also, I opted to listen to it in surround sound (Like I do many of my OTHER dvd's), and it wasn't worth listening to! It sounded muffled, and empty on surround sound! There was no bass whatsoever, and the entire mix was off. I switched it back to stereo, and it was just okay... I don't know what they did audio-wise, but this is definitely NOT the best dvd I've heard sound-wise.

With that said... I do still like the dvd. I think the song selection is AWESOME, and most of my favorites are present. Other than some empty sounding keyboards from Cain on a few songs, I think the music was pretty tight. Vocal-wise, I think both Arnel and Deen did a great job, and I really have to say that I preferred hearing Deen's vocals over Arnel's. That's just my personal prefference, but I DO think Arnel's dictation is MUCH better in this video. I really enjoyed him here.

As much as Journey trumped up this new technology... I would think that they would have released this thing on Blueray to be able to capture the quality, but what do I know? :?

Another thing that seems to bother me, is how little they show Ross. I know many here call him the walking dead, but he is a founding member of the band, and I think he's earned the right to be showcased a little more. :? I don't know if that's why, but his performance seemed to be just going through the motions on the video. Maybe he knew he wasn't getting any footage, and just said the HELL with it?

Anyway, I do love the video, and I recommend it to everyone!

G.I.Jim wrote:Well all I can say to Wal-Mart is DAMN YOU NEED AN IQ TEST ON THESE RETARDS YOU HIRE!!! I laughed while I read all of the horror stories about the trips to Wal-Mart. That is... until I tried to go to one! Long story short, I was told....

1. "It doesn't have that release date at OUR store... That only applies to certain stores".

2. "We don't get those new releases until their out for a month or so".

3. "If it says 2009/10/06 on the box... THAT's when we release it!!!"

4. "We haven't got those in yet, but we did get the new KISS cd" (Which isn't SUPPOSED to be out until the 6th! I bought it. ).

5. "Obviously Journey or whoever they are, made a mistake on their website!"

Please excuse my language on here, because I'm sure I'm going to use some right now... Those people are complete and utter fucking retards!!! I went through the ENTIRE ordeal with 5 Wal-Marts before I finally had success at the 6th. I called corporate headquarters, and was told that there was nothing they could do. They told me to contact the regional manager... of course he was OFF for 2 days, and left nobody else in charge! :x

I told EACH Wal-Mart the deal, showed the managers EACH a link to Wal-Mart's website showing the real release date... None of them would look for it, or sell me the fucking thing!!! I was told "Obviously they just put the wrong release date on the website"! I honestly thought I was going to hurt someone this weekend.

The funny thing was, one of the stores that refused to sell me the damn thing, had a big-ass display of KISS-"Sonic Boom". The sign said "As advertised". How fucking ironic! I bought it immediately, and thought about reporting them to corporate, but I just let it go...

JACKASSES!!!!!!!!!!

Pretty sure you went to the same idiotic stores I did in columbia! I finally got it in harbison from this young girl that was willling to listen. I talked to electronics manager at Two Notch that did not know his hole from mine and was even told by a manager in Killian that he would go back and "deep search" for it while 25 minutes later I saw him wondering around the displays and I asked "Did you find it?" and he just said "NAH". I thought to myself " I wonder if Jim is having this much problem?" lol

How was What I Needed with the extended solo with Neal? And thanks for the review. I ordered mine b/c I don't have the patience to go through what you did after calling back a few times. I refused to go there and deal with it unless I knew it was out.

I was in Walfart yesterday and picked up the new DVD. I gave it a spin last night and I must say that I was underwhelmed. There is a ton of material on the two disk set but there was nothing there for the hard core fan. The expected dirty dozen were there but nothing of note from Infinity, Evolution or Departure. The band was tight and looked like they were having fun. Castro was great on the ones he sang. Arnel has a ton of energy and has gotten a lot better with his pronunciation of words while singing. I was pleasantly surprised to hear the gig was in Standard Tune. I found my self skipping from song to song looking for something to hold my interest. Just to run a test I pulled out the Houston DVD from 81 with Perry and plugged it into the player. Maybe I had gotten board with Journey since I have listened to their music so much. I didn't skip around on the Houston disk. The set list is likely to hold my interest better but that wasn't all of it. It came down to Perry, that's it. The dude was one of the best ever and it shows when you listen to him. Arnel is a very good singer with tons of energy but that's it, he's a really good singer. He's clearly not in the same league as Perry once was. Maybe it's an unfair comparison but Arnel is just not nearly as good as Perry was.

To me, "What I Needed" and the extended versions are what made this video! That song is one of my favorites, and I thought they did an amazing job with it! I also liked "Turn Down The World Tonight". I know it doesn't go over well in concerts (which is why they don't play it), but I love that song too. Overall, I think the whole dvd is awesome. Sometimes the camera seems like it's a MILE away from the band, but that's probably just me nitpicking! You'll definitely enjoy it.

I think you're spot on dude. I bought the DVD and also found myself jumping around. As you said, Arnel is a good singer. In my opinion, he's still the best singer they've had for this material since Perry's departure. It's very tough to compare anyone to Perry. The guy was simply untouchable in his prime. I did like the fact that they performed so many songs that they don't usually perform on the new DVD. I simply thought Arnel's voice sounded a bit tired insome spots. I still say that he won't be Neal's last lead singer!

Why, for being honest?!?!? I love going to see Journey live, AP is a kick and he does a great job, but I don't
listen to this version of Journey outside of live shows...as Neal said, "if you want them to sound like the
records, listen to the records."...so I do!!

There are a few people out there that I refer to as freaks. Not in a bad way but because they do something that seems impossible to us mortals. There are two on the list for me.

Buddy Rich and Steve Perry. Duplicated but never replaced. Both one of a kind and there isnt a drummer a live today that can even begin to touch what he was able to do. I dont need to explain why Perry is also in this league do I ?

Mother Father from Houston 81 is all you need to see.

and for Buddy, (watch this whole clip, please it wont kill ya.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaThs_k-v9k

The solo starts at :35 and the freak comes out at 1:02. As a drummer of 25 years it still seems impossible to do what he is doing here in anyway shape or form. Speed and stamina are unmatched to this day. Lots of drummers can play fast but cant play music. Dont forget that.

What's up w/ Castronovo's increasingly "metal" look? All inked up, rockin that "Hulk Hair" again...looks like a completely different person than the 2001 DVD...

Agreed, just a bizarre appearance for a Journey drummer...surprised they haven't tapped him the shoulder yet like they did JSS and go "uh, dude tone down the look..." plus, did my eyes decieve or is he wearing makeup?

Hey, bought the dvd yesterday. when I opened it up, in the first flap there is a place meant to insert a booklet/liner notes but mine was empty. Just curious if it wasn't included by mistake. Now, if nobody's dvd came with a booklet, why is there an insert for nothing?

Mine does have a booklet, sounds like yours is missing.
