I've seen a bunch or other bands do that too for the lead singer, even when he's the guy who wrote the song, but hasn't sung it for a while, etc.
jrny84 wrote:Yup I noticed the same thing, alot of bands actually do this...stones, eagles, and many others. Sometimes you just forget, even if you write the songs.

Lyric teleprompter for Arnel? wtf!!
Rob Halford uses one religiously in Priest....and when I reluctantly saw them this summer, It was dreadfully obvious. The guy had nails in his feet, head down, reading the words off the thing. Awful!

I'm beginning to think Halford has some sort of physical ailment affecting him...legs or back or something...lately he either stands in one place all night or, as I've seen before, sings a bunch of songs sitting on a throne/chair of some kind...something's up with that.

well, I like alot of songs on revs...but Change for the Better is my favorite. I'll never understand why the band didn't release that and jam it down the throats of rock radio....and watch things explode. That song IMHO, is a Journey hit in any decade or era. It's a wasted song....it had far more potential than it was allowed.
Ehwmatt wrote:It's a great song, but probably a little long for radio at this point. Especially coming from an old band. Probably the same problem with Higher Place, one of my top 10 Journey tracks on any given day.

Quite possibly. I think Change has a slightly sharper hook than Higher Place....which is also one of my top journey tracks.
awesome avatar i love big fake titties.. Friga looks like a dick holding a guitar Augeri didnt need need a telepromtor, although they {him and Friga} did use a tape player towards the end
Gibby wrote:yep, all kinds of bands are using a teleprompter. I saw Tom Jones looking at one the other day when he was singing his 'It's So Unusual' song. How many thousands of times has he sung that thing? It's really no big deal - nice safety net in case of a brain freeze.

Just because alot of bands do it, doesn't mean it's ok. I don't think it's any better than canned background vocals or worse, lip syncing. It's not like the singer is busy studying for the cpa exam or bar exam all day. It's his job to remember this shit...
Ehwmatt wrote:I didn't notice it... I don't know how you could be a professional singer and not know the words though! Christ, I could cold sing probably 7000 songs at the drop of a dime
They guys are human????JRNYFan wrote:strangegrey wrote:jrny84 wrote:Yup I noticed the same thing, alot of bands actually do this...stones, eagles, and many others. Sometimes you just forget, even if you write the songs.

Why would it not be ok? These guys are human after all. Also, how often did you notice him looking at it? I think it was just there as precaution for nerves.

+1 I sing along with the radio and know a ton of songs. I'm by no way a pro singer but I would tend to think that if I was singing these songs night after night, I'd know the words at some point. Just sayin'.
