I still might have the software on my machine somewhere. I used to have this great app that ripped a perfect audio copy of a DVD.
I'll have to look for it...see if it's still on my machine.

Sounds like Neal's guitar pulls out of tune on Seperate Ways...but that seems totally acceptable, given the humidity down there...

OK, I've seen enough of this dvd on youtube to make enough of an observation. The band sounds good to me. Some dynamics are missing in the music, but I can't tell whether that's the DVD itself or youtube getting in the way. I can't make a good judgment on the picture quality...because, well, fucking youtube.

But overall, the band's performance is quite good...I hear no issues of significance with Arnel's singing, pitch, diction....and my biggest pet peeve with him, his screaming, is toned down significantly....

The end result is that I would likely grab the dvd the next time I walk through walmart....I don't think I'd steer the car there to get it outright, but the next time I walk through the place and if it's there, I'd get it.

They did...

Raised On Radio
Trial By Fire
Arrival
Live 2001 DVD
Generations

The 1998 & 1999 tours...

All killer stuff, IMO...

You're in the minority on many of those things. People here constantly criticize how Generations is terrible (even though everybody RAVED about it when it came out); how the 2001 DVD isn't even "live"; how Arrival isn't any good because it doesn't have that special someone; Trial By Fire because they're too many ballads; and ROR because Perry's voice was shot and it sounded like a continuation of his solo record.

Some of you people need to stop getting your panties in a wad just because someone doesn't bow down and worship everything that Journey puts out. I'm fairly certain the band didn't produce the video, so the criticism for me is really aimed at whomever they hired to produce this DVD. I do think the band should take a bit more pride in the product they're allowing to be released.

Exactly. Unless....Schon & Cain didn't hear the finished product prior to the release. Who's gonna pop up and say THAT happened??? It's beginning to look like there was a bigger reason why Perry was always sitting at the mixing board w/ Shirley. At least there was somebody back then who gave a shit what Journey slapped their names on. It either sounded first class, or somebody was gettin' a fire extinguisher upside the head!

There's nothing wrong with some criticism when something is genuinely not good. However, there are people here that criticize EVERYTHING the band does. That's what bothers me.

Yep, exactly what I want...and maybe something a little higher quality than the standard CD.

Btw, who's singing the high-end backing part in 'Keep On Runnin'?

Your memory of history is VASTLY different than mine. I said that "Generations" sucked 30 seconds after listening to it and that I wanted a refund...and so did many others! I don't recall many people changing their opinion on Generations! The only people who "raved" about Generations were the chicks who had lust in their heart for Augeri. Even if you're the most ardent Journey fan on the planet, I'm not sure how anyone can think "Generations" is remotely great! Anything with Valory, Cain, and Schon singing lead on it needs to be kept away from my ears! Fucking TRAIN WRECK!

It's about half of a great album. There's some very good stuff on there, but it isn't very cohesive. Take the best parts of Generations, finish the Red 13 songs (ie put some choruses on them), and tighten everything up with a good producer so you get shorter and better arrangements--esp the Red13 material. Then, leave it to Augeri and Deen for vocals, and you would get a pretty good little album there. Darker, more progressive, a bit more of an edge, and nicely rocking.

Anyway, I'm still wondering what the original version of Gone Crazy with Augeri on vocals sounded like. Still not convinced it would have been "Journey", but it probably would have worked better.

Ross' song was completely out of place..."In Self Defense" should have been left off..."Every Generation" would have been better if Augeri had sang it...the rest of it I liked quite a bit...especially Deen's two songs..."Faith In The Heartland" and "Place In Your Heart" rank among my favorite Journey tunes...
