You're absolutley right! Singing in your car is the EXACT same experience as singing for Journey. Tell you what, go out on a STAGE (most people in this world actually have a growing FEAR called stage fright) in front of 30,000 people, DVD camera's rolling, in front of fans that you know are full of "Loons", "Wigglers", "Pinheads" let alone who critique EVERY MOVE including flipping your hair, showing too much teeth, or singing a instead of A, and we'll see if your heartbeat seems to not want to JUMP OUT OF YOUR CHEST at any minute, or you mouth completely locking up on you at any givin' moment.

All of this in the midst of singing songs that are made for a two hour set list, who are known as recognizable songs sung by one of the the most successful 80's bands of all time, sung by a man that has the vocal capability of being completely FLAWLESS and having the presence of lighting scorching down on you every little nudge you make onstage with 30,000 eyes burning holes through your soul just waiting for a mess up but at the same time expecting the world out of you. Then you must deal with the fact of self doubt at this point as proving it to yourself that

you could pull all of this off in front of the man that hired you off youtube in the first place. Something tells me that this, compared to singing in your car, could make you forget at ANY NERVE RACKING MOMENT the middle bridge of STONE IN LOVE in the matter of a split second. By the way, we'll see how you respond when you subconsciously know you missed a note that you should of hit and see where composure takes you in the midst of all of this.

I didnt know teleprompter was used to fight stage fright...... ;)

Actually yes, it's a huge part of it. Stage fright is just another term used as NERVES. I've seen many concerts in high school in which my buddy would participate in who was an established vocalist throughout the community, and she rehearsed like a complete beauty that she was with a gorgeous voice. As soon as that curtain opened I've never seen someone CHOKE as bad as she did in a play of a lead role. She was breathing heavy all over the place, cracking, and completely out of tone, and this was in front of 125 people singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow! Disappointing to say the least, but that just goes to show things go wrong to established people on stage.

And dear GOD is your avatar a sight for sore eyes of that of a boner.

I noticed it the first time I watched the DVD - think I only saw one quick shot of it. Never saw one at any other shows and am guessing this was a special precaution since they were filming a DVD. Probably better if they'd NOT included that shot, but not a big deal to me. Mick Jagger uses one too, btw.

LOL @ Lizgig and Frank, btw - I LOVE this place! :)

Ok, Jesus Christ....I gotta jump into this conspiracy lunacy right here. There is no fucking way that Arnel can be depending on a teleprompter. His is too all over the place and is clearly NOT reading anything, even remotely, 99% of the time. Nice try. He probably lipped the whole concert, however. (That's what someone will eventually be saying)

It's probably just the setlist. I'm sure they don't want them taped all over the stage for a DVD.

If you took the time to read the thread, you would see that nobody said that Arnel is "depending" on a teleprompter. It is obvious that there is a teleprompter on stage during the Manila concert. You can clearly see it scrolling through the lyrics. Arnel is not "depending" on it for the reasons you mentioned - he's all over the stage, interacting with the crowd, etc.

It is simply there as a backup, or as peace of mind for Arnel and the band. You never know when you might get off on a verse, or get caught up with someone in the crowd and forget where you are. It's not a bad idea to have it there as a backup. But he's not "depending" on a teleprompter. Don't know why you're so quick to think there's a conspiracy brewing.

No, it's a teleprompter. See for yourself. Any shots over the stage from behind you can see it scrolling through the lyrics. It's no biggie.

(and the setlists are still taped over the stage and on Cain's keyboard.)

Even Barbra Streisand uses a teleprompter to help her overcome stage fright. She once froze and forgot the lyrics of a song during a concert many years ago - having this safety net helps keep her calm and she won't go on stage now without it. Her fans seem to be more devoted than Loons and if she feels she needs a teleprompter to perform for them, why would anyone begrudge Arnel? Performing in front of his countrymen, while knowing it was being recorded for a DVD and many hardline Journey fans would be looking for the slightest flaw, must have felt like the weight of the world! As long as he isn't relying on it constantly, which would really detract from the performance, it doesn't seem to be a problem.

Know what I hate more than a lyric teleprompter? When the singer doesn't sing the right words live!!! I'm paying money for the show, at least get the words right!

Arnel didn't write these songs, and English is his second language. Besides that, he's all over the stage, putting on the show. If he occasionally needs a little help to make sure it all comes across well to the crowd, then I don't mind at all.

I say who cares if he is using a teleprompter. It looks like it might be there for comfort just in case of nerves.

Arnel used to have the music stand back in the days when he played for the Zoo all the time on all those old Youtube vids.

All those songs are a lot of words for anyone to memorize and he did not write any of the songs. Give the guy a break! LOL

The concert rocks!!!!!!

One other note here...I can hum the melodies of songs I really like, but knowing lyrics is not my forte. Some people are built this way. How about Perry at the Bill Graham concert back in 1991...the old story of him not remembering the lyrics to DSB or Lights..Herbie had to write the lyrics down for him :D

Steven Tyler uses a lyric teleprompter. So does Brian Johnson. Not really a big deal.
