Never heard that analogy before!

I actually like his singing style on the ROR tour.

 I have to admit, that was a really funny analogy!

any tour with Steve MF Perry, JSS, hell even the Generations show with Augeri that was supposed to be released. Just please stop force feeding arnie to me. As a longtime Journey fan I have to buy anything that says Journey and then I get even more pissed with the current lineup and keep asking myself why the hell I bought it.

Steveo Speedwagon, Its called loyalty to the name Journey. While I dont agree with the current lineup I still have an attachment to the name Journey, which in my mind will always be Steve MF Perry.

I don't usually agree with you on not liking Perry's voice at all pre Escape b/c I love Departure CD with the bonus tracks remastered and Infinity and love his voice then for most songs. But there are quite a few songs I don't like of Perry's voice when it was so high. I have the 1980 Departure boot of Japan and love it b/c of Rolie being on there, and for me always wanted to see what he was like in concert, and the rocking and jamming aspect of the concert, especially with Neal, and it's a great concert in so many ways. But I have to admit there are quite a few songs that his voice grates on me on the boot and not enjoyable, like Dixie Highway.

Dixie Highway live Japan: Great rocking song, not crazy about the vocals at all: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5moA7adq6-g

Homemade Love live 1980: What makes up for it is Neal's performance and the rest of the band's peformance. Hate his high vocals on this. Ughhhh.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Apc5RpCPYCo

But Precious Time and I'm Cryin' and Too Late, the perfection of Stay Awhile, and People and Places/duet with Neal, just amazing with Perry in that tour.

Precious Time: Just the Whole band on fire on this song and love his vocals. One of my favorite songs ever with Journey.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZxLuzx9DBg

And, to me, one of the coolest live performances by this band ever and what I love the Departure boot for:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SBmctKT7xU

Loved every clip. Loved it when Perry could sing anywhere in his range with little effort. I love all eras of his voice but feel that there needs to be a live show with Rollie release as well as one from Frontiers. Ror wasnt Journey in my eyes. The backbone had been broken by Perry. I guess as a drummer I am very sensitive to feel and when Smith is gone it just doesnt hold the same allure. It was their chemistry as a group that made it work for me.

Jub, I'm so with you. I went back to YouTube and viewed other classic songs sped up and I felt like I was on four cups of coffee and downed a hit of speed. Not his best for sure on some of those songs. I had voted ROR too. I would love to see Perry looking like he did in ROR with the rhythm and the ROR songs he performed which I loved, but never mind. Maybe I will go back to pre-Escape or Frontiers instead for my choice .

I'm no music expert os maybe Ehwmatt, Jeremey, Strangegrey or LD could weigh in, but I think ROR showcased Perry no longer being able to sing the older songs in their original key. He was money on the ROR songs, but flew through the older material like Ted Kennedy through a fifth of Jamison. Could it be that they couldn't tune down the older material because the newer stuff would have sounded like shit, so they had to speed up the older stuff so he could get through it? That's what it sounds like to me.

I can't think of any other reason to play them at warp speed besides to help Perry, who was struggling... it helps cut short the phrases by a lot, which probably helped, even though he was singing "faster." But I don't know that much about singing. It sounds like ass at any rate and I don't know how anyone wouldn't have demanded a refund after hearing that shit.

NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Pay no mind to me. It's probably just me. I have issues with parts of ROR and absolutely love other parts. I would never choose that as my favorite Journey album b/c it's -- well, it's not the sound I love the best from them as a classic rock band with a distinct sound, like Only The Young, Ask The Lonely, Precious Time that unmistakable Journey signature sound.

I think Neal was pushed outside of his comfort zone in a big way and the result is some really nice playing - It Could Have Been You, Positive Touch, Suzanne, and my favorite, I'll Be alright Without You for starters
