the school is wanting permission to vaccinate my five and four year old with this new vaccine....
would you let your kids or say no to the shot?

I can't speak for the entire country, but in my area, we are seeing the worst flu I can ever remember-the ICU is full of patients with the flu, and many are young, otherwise healthy people. We are seeing deaths from many types of flu, H1N1 and others....it may be hype but to an extent, it is true. To vaccinate or not is always a personal choice but make sure you get accurate information from reliable sources(such as the CDC), then make your decision.

Yep, got my shot the other day.

In related news, my boss, who I'm around all day long, went and got tested for H1N1 today.![]()
It turns out she does not have it, but still, I was like "Omg, stay the hell out of my office!!"

They could possibly have a bad reaction I guess if they had some health issues that this shot only made worse. Like my uncle when he was a little kid almost died when they found out that he was allergic to penicillin, but only after he was injected with it did they learn he was allergic to it and by that time he was very close to dying from it. This flu thing could be completely different. I've been lead to believe that when they give the flu shot to people, they are actually giving them a mild case of it and that the body automatically fights off the disease and in turn becoming immune to it. Am I comfortable receiving this in my system, not particularily. My wife doesnt' get the shots either, our daughter gets everything taken care of during her scheduled doctor visits because she's still under two years old.

strangegrey wrote:This looks like a slippery slope. Before long it's not a permission slip to administer a vacination...it's a waiver to not.
Before you know it, parents will be defending their right to waive out of what becomes a required vacination.
Not only that, but there's some information out there by respectible members of the medical community that have suggested that the H1N1 treatments (vacinations and anti-viral meds) were rushed into production....and aren't as effective as they should be.
One might also consider the recent increase in severity of flu strains over the past few years as flu shots have been put into increasing use. As the pharmaceutical community rushes out a flu-shot each year....they may be inadvertantly allowing flu strains to superstrain into more resistant mutations.
I believe that's what's happening now. These flu shots that you get each year at CVS may prevent you from getting sick, but in the end, it's also preventing us as humans to deal with flu virus's the way our bodies are supposed to.
I think more limited use of these vacinations is far more prudent. Save it for people with impaired immunity systems or the elderly. Children shouldn't be given them either, because their immune systems need to develop....not be impaired by vacinations of this type.
just sayin....
