See, that's why a tag size doesn't matter. I'm 3 inches shorter and 10 lbs heavier than you, but also wear a 4. I'm an absolute chunker next to her!!!

I'm a chunker next to both of you, then. I don't feel like I'm fat, but seeing heights the same as mine here, yet weights that are much lower makes me feel like a moose. And THAT is why these friggin' companies get away with that vanity sizing shit. Because people my size and less smart come along and buy a 10 and are thrilled about it because the f@#*ing tag says SIX.

Maybe I'm not an 8 or 10? Maybe I'm a 6 and the Jenny Craig people have stock in all the clothing brands I buy and want me to feel like I need to put down the chunky chews and head to their nearest office? I don't even really kinow what size I am. I just buy what fits and they all have different numbers on them.

Guys they said on the news that the picture was fake. Airbrushed to unatural thinness. Geez, no wonder girls starve themselves. This is a role model? Twiggy started the whole ugly mess............I say we force feed these girls twinkies and ding dongs, set them in front of a depressing movie untill they balloon up to a normal size.

Love it. I like this plan. Strap them down, pry their yaps open and stuff them with Krispy Kremes, and keep their hands tied behind the chair so they can't stuff their fingers down their throats and do the dessert in reverse diet.

Any one who thinks they are supposed to look like that by seeing that ad deserves to starve themselves. No, seriously, I have an aunt who's been anorexic for 20 years, it's bad, but really, I don't see the harm for the great majority of women who should at least be levelheaded enough to realize you can't get down to that kind of physique without doing some fucked up shit. Just laugh at it and ignore it.

I think some of us are saying that even her real weight of 120 lbs (at 5'10") is pretty darn thin. The picture, as someone else said, looks like a cartoon. I can't imagine anyone ever wanting to look like that.

That is, absolute best case scenario, probably slightly underweight. Probably more likely very underweight. She would have to have a naturally, incredibly small-framed figure to even come close to hitting 120 and being anywhere near healthy weight.

cyndy I was only joking. :D But it is quite common for girls to starve themselves because they look at these airbrushed unrealistic pictures and think this is the norm. Being a size 7 is fat. I am with teenage girls all day and I hear how little they like themselves for who they are. I am not opposed to anyone being thin and healthy. Nor am I opposed to anyone being chubby but actively caring for themselves. I am opposed to how society makes girls feel as if their appearance is all they can ever be. No thought to who they are as a person.

This was me at 20 my height was 5'2" and I weighed 107 lbs. I am sure some out there would have found me to be "fat". I worked out all the time and had tight ab muscles. I was obsessed with looking thin. I had low self esteem. Now I am 46, overweight and happy. Do I want to loose weight? Yes. But I am not obsessed with my weight. It will come with time, and slow determination. But I am loved for who I am, just the way I am. And I like myself, I think that is the key.

Precisely. It's how girls are made to feel from the time they get their first Barbie. If you're not pretty enough or thin enough, forget it. And that's why certain things exist, things like eating disorders and breast implants and diet pills. But see, if a woman expresses any kind of particulars about what she wants in a guy, she's shallow. So not only are we expected to meet some kind of unattainable standard because of what men want, and are allowed to preach proudly about what they want, we can't do the same without being called stuck up or shallow, which of course usually leads to the word bitch somewhere along the way.

I'm going to need this to stop. Ok'thx. :D

Bluejeangirl you are beautiful, I have seen your pics. And as for men, well thank goodness that is not all of them. My husband loves me for who I am as I am. Some guys are not shallow. But I guess it goes both ways. Hair implants, Viagra, butt implants exhist for guys too. I think we all just need to like who we are. Not worry about what the media tells us what to like. My husband is balding, greying, and not as thin as he used to be. But there is no one as hansome as he is to me. O.K. Dean............insert grouch about sappy emotion here. LOL!

Okay, I gotta step in & say a couple of things that might get my head bitten off, but first a personal comment: I already stated earlier that I like a little meat on a woman's bones b/c bones alone is just not sexy to me. On the other hand, I, myself have to watch every little morsel that goes into my mouth b/c of my career. If I want to keep my job, I have to stay within a certain weight range, just like a model, just like a wrestler.

In defense of men; however, I have to say that it isn't entirely men's fault that women are made to feel as if they need to look like Barbie. Women are their own worst enemies a lot of the times & they can be highly competitive & jealous of one another's boyfriends, beauty, boobs, clothes, figures & so on. I'm not saying that men aren't partially to blame b/c shallow men do exist. Still, to place ALL of the blame on men is totally unfair.

I said that both men and women let self esteem get to them. I don't blame men at all. I think it is fine to take care of yourself.......but not to self loathe..........does that make sense? :D

And where do you think the competitiveness and jealousy started? Would women act that way if they felt comfortable, if they felt like they weren't fighting a losing battle against the 36-24-36 mentality? Take men in general.... you have a woman with an Anna Nicole rack and in the same room you have the President of the itty bitty titty committee.... who is going to get the attention from the men? The one with the bigger IQ? Maybe in the long run... but right off the bat, no.

I'm not saying all men do this, but I see very few men, in general, railing against this preconception. On this board alone is all about tits and ass, and who has a half naked cheerleader in their avatar, or Behshad's ever-changing animated bouncers. And it starts young! I don't know where little girls even get it, except maybe TV, but my neices, at ages 5 and 8, were stuffing nerf balls under thier shirts because they wanted "boobies".

I'm happy that Filippa spoke up. The fashion industry did nothing but undermine women's self-esteem and confidence. Idiots like Lauren are responsible for the distorted idea that young women have about their bodies or about how women are "supposed" to look like to be considered beautiful. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, just as size is irrelevant when you are comfortable with yourself.

The media is seducing women with the illusion of the perfect beauty - that is so dangerous especially for the young generation of women. They starve themselves just to reach impossible sizes and shapes, just because the fashion industry and the magazines are promoting a fake image.

But Filippa is not the first one to be vocal about all this. Dove (the brand) did a great job with their campaigns.

Personally, I've been both overweight and underweight, but in the last 4 or 5 years I found a comfort weight zone in perfect balance with my height and bone structure. I'm 5'7, 122lbs and a size 5. But I stopped weighing myself when I reached my current measures which I am really comfortable with.
My barometer is a certain pair of jeans; when I feel they get tight on me I know it's time to eat lightly until I get back to my comfort weight zone.

My point exactly. Even though women KNOW men are shallow & they put this kind of pressure on them, they rally against ONE ANOTHER, thus proving to men that they can be coerced into anything. They need to stick together & forget that deadbeat low-life.

It's just like when you watch these Jerry Springer type shows where some woman's man cheats on her with another woman & the host brings both women & the man out on stage & the same thing always happens: The women cat fight one another & out come the claws & both of them are ripping each other's weaves out screaming, "He's going home with ME." "No, he's going home with ME!!!!," shouts the other. Meanwhile, I'm sitting at home grubbing down my Cherrios thinking, "Why do either one of you want that piece of crap?" & why is the wife madder at the other woman than she is at her "man"? HE'S the one that cheated on her, not the other woman. She should be ripping HIS head off before she goes after the other woman.

God, I'm glad I'm gay. There's too much drama with you heteros.

NUmber one, half that shit on those shows is fake. Number two, with the ones that are real, and yeah there's plenty of that, be it on TV or otherwise, well, that's a whole other faction of stupidity that my mind isn't capable of handling. Guy cheats = guys is a scumbag. End of story. Some women aren't smart enough for that. It's easier for them to accept that some other woman did the damage and blame her than blame the lowlife that stuck it where it didn't belong.

And yeah, they're always fighting over the worst piece of shit guy ever, aren't they? There's the self-esteem thing again though. Some women don't think they can do any better and they will fight to the end with some other tramp to keep their piece of crap. "He a piece of crap, but he MY piece of crap, beeeyotch!!"
