I believe Perry has achieved both of these. I just heard Wheel in the Sky on the radio 40 minutes ago. Classic Journey will continue to get played on the radio regardless if Perry or Journey is out there working or not. Why slave away on the road if you're already financially secure and can here yourself at least 6 times a day on the radio, 25 years after the original releases?
Which begs another question; Why is Pineda slaving away, singing Cover songs in his downtime IN THE ORIGINAL KEY, yet when he is with the group he has to sing half a step down?
Actually, why is Pineda still singing Cover songs period? Doesn't Journey pay him enough? If he is trying to garner favor in his home country, sing some of those original compositions people have been talking about him writing during his ZOO days. Flat out IMITATING Bryan Adams and Sammy Hagar is embarrassing for any Journey singer to be doing to supplement his income.
Sometimes Pineda comes off as a kid in a candy store. I don't sense from the interviews I've seen that he has the creative juices to do his own stuff. Just my observation. I think he's happy singing covers, making a good living, and enjoying his family. He's got talent, no doubt. But I never get from him that he's just itching to write or record a million seller.
It's great that Arnel is singing and doing what he loves to do, but I think the point is that while he is the lead singer of Journey, it does not look good for him to be singing covers.
