Without a monster sponsor like RIM, a band who needs the money probably wouldn't attempt to do this. These type of things are what separates the upper tier from everyone else. Pink Floyd, Bon Jovi, maybe Van Halen could do this. Journey, Foreigner, Steely Dan, etc., I'm not so sure.
With all of Journey's sound problems on this last tour, you would be asking a lot, I think.

An indoor venue might work but outdoors would be tricky. They were filming for a DVD last night so they had stuff already in place to make it come of as a video shoot.

It wasn't Bono's best showing. At times he seemed tired. At critical points in certain songs, "With or Without You" for example, the inflections we're used to weren't there. Overall, good concert but as Jana pointed out above, he definitely wasn't 100%.

Agree that most bands wouldn't be able to get this type of show deal together. Journey's current pubilicity hype might swing it. Especially if they put out a good album next round.

Yeah... $300-million USD worth of affinity.

It seems the concert is saved on you tube to watch at your own leisure. Pretty cool!

They have some good cuts on their YouTube account from this concert. Check this one out:

Bono gets his daily jogging in, at the expense of concertgoers. What a life!

That 360 tour stage is incredible.

Cool stage set-up but this is one of my favorite recent U2 songs and it doesn't sound so good. Bono sounds really rough on this ! Flat. Maybe it's the video.

Yeah, and Bono's only 49... think of how hard it would be for Steve Perry to hit even higher notes at the age of 60.

Plus it probably didn't help for him to run a 100-yeard dash before singing the song.

Bono is a good singer but not in that league, but dear god let's not open this can of worms here please

It's weird seeing Bono without his signature slicked back hair too

My only complaint was his hair. I missed it. Why buzz it off?

Anyway, Bono in the interview I posted a few weeks ago even stated his voice isn't great, that he's first and foremost a songwriter and relies heavily on his performing to compensate for his voice at times. His voice is thinner in certain ranges on his new CD and in this concert. Just mother time marching on, but still a great performance in this concert.

Well, to be sure, Bono has laid down some legendary vocal cuts over the years - One, With or Without You, and Where The Streets Have No Name come to mind.

I mean the guy is almost 50, he probably just got sick of dealing with all that hair. You reach a point where you don't care that much any more... evidently he's reached it

Doesn't look like he's goin bald anywhere or anything that mighta led him to buzz it up...

Well, at 50 and a little chunkier, though he's trimmed down since the concert started, hair can help. Just sayin.......

And, yes, those songs you mentioned are tremendous songs and his voice shines on those and many other songs too, but I liked it that he was so honest in his interview about his insecurities and talked about his strengths and weaknesses.

That was my complaint in his new CD, though, because his upper register is now thinner sounding, I felt he should have done more songs in his lower register. Many people just didn't like the songs, but, for me, some of those songs I didn't like b/c of his vocals on them and not necessarily the song, and that's coming from a longtime fan of U2.

To be honest, I haven't heard the new one besides the singles they put out. They didn't do much for me, so I haven't pursued it and critical reaction didn't convince me to pick it up either.
