100% WET

General Intelligent Discussion & One Thread About That Buttknuckle

So I listened to most of W.E.T. last night while driving around with my lady. I'll be checking it all out again a few times this weekend, and I'll write a review for it.

I like it. A lot. I wouldn't give it a 100% but it's very damn good. My girlfriend and I agree that it's probably one of Soto's best albums of any kind, and that the musicianship is stellar. If my girlfriend gets into a melodic rock album and really likes it, that's when I know it's good.

It's more consistent than other past JSS works. I agree with him in the fact that JSS has a ton of brilliant material, but a lot of filler too.

This album, doesn't have a "filler" vibe anywhere at all. Very good stuff.

Banned for fkin what lady?!?!?! I don't know what the fk you're talking about!! I like JSS quite alot, when he sings >rock<. Don't care for him fronting Journey, don't care for the r&b rap type stuff. Love the new wet material. If you research my posts on JSS, this is the exact type of material I've been looking for from him. Get your shit accurate before you jump on some misinformed "banned" wagon.

Andrew, is this really worth an extended reply? C'mon..it's the off topic forum and I replied "you can't be serious" when someone said "all the professionalism" on this forum. It was not an attack on you personally. Looking over the replies it appears some misinformed users assumed I was talking about "you" and this entire website. Which was simply not the case.

I'd give it damn close to 100%. I'm not even a huge fan of JSS and I still say he was 100% wrong for Journey, but this album ROCKS. Like you said, very little filler. Put Your Money Where Your Mouth is would be my only track that comes anywhere near a filler. The moody ballads on here are awesome... Comes Down Like Rain is great and One Day At A Time is like the heir apparent to DL's Hysteria. The rest of the tracks rock a lot, great musicianship, GREAT production (and I don't even have the CD yet), and of any band to compare the rockers to, I'd say I actually get a strong vintage Asia vibe on some of these tracks.

awesome. none of us were fans at all either before the 1st time we heard him.

It was a band wagon thing at first... Neal sez I gotta new singer for my new project, Soul SirkUS. and we said Ok, let's hear him.

but Jeff has kept us on the 'wagon' ever since. Right for Journey or not is moot at this point--they needed him, he said yes, we did it with them, it went bust, he moved on we moved on with him/them. Move forward don't look back.

doesn't matter where he's been, where he's goin. take it as it comes. He's just good. period.

I have. It's solid, it's strong and overall good. I have it nowhere to a 100, but it's definitely in the 90's, maybe a 94/95. I do respect Mac's decision and I really thought he would think long and hard before giving this review a 100, knowing some sonofabitches would come in and do exactly as they have. Is it better than Revelation? I don't know, as I haven't listened to that gold disc yet, but listening to a few songs and the rest of the clips of Revelations' strongest, and listening to WET, WETS overpowers Rev.

Maybe not, but the band and it's blowhard fanbase sure like to "count" that piece of shit redo disc as sales for their false Platinum status don't they? No matter how you slice it, Revelations still hasn't sold a million units.

WET fucks Rev in every way except maybe lead guitar playing. production, songwriting, overall performances, track flow, backing vocals etc... way better. I can't say enough about how astounding the background vocals are on WET. Layer upon layer. I can't even fathom how they recorded the backing vocals in the If I Fall chorus

Steve Price just played W.E.T. on Arfm. DAMAGE IS DONE has a line that sez, "Never look back--just MARCH on". so I edit my post to reflect new motto.

As a rock album, I agree. WET is what Fro always promises but never delivers on because of Friga's three Kleenex clause for all of their albums.

I said that over in Behshad's forum today... Neal always promises a "rocker" album. Well, this is the blueprint he should follow. Even the ballads on this album are moody/atmospheric and not Friga-sweet/sappy.

Again, remember this about me before Pinheads or loons or whoever else comes in here spouting nonsense: (1) I was not a fan of JSS fronting Journey and (2) I'm not even that big of a JSS fan other than this album outside select songs from his albums and of course his Yngwie stuff. WET is just that good.

Well, they were announcing double-platinum at the NC show in mid September. You don't get there without selling one million units. Be interesting to hear a current number on it.

I read the review & listened to the tracks & especially like the songs “Just Go” & “Running From The Heartache.” This sounds like a CD I would like to add to my collection, but I’m confused about its release. If I’m reading the release date information correctly, it says that W.E.T. will be released on November 6th but only in Europe? Is that what I’m seeing?

I'm a fucking weird mother fucker and I'm going to patiently wait for the CD to come out in stores Nov. 26th in the U.S. Judging from the reviews from all around, I'm bustin' to get my hands on it, but my damn stubbornness is getting in the way of listening to some clips. I'm eager and highly excited for this one.

don't take this the wrong way, but unless you have seen other similar releases available from the label, I wouldn't expect to actually be able to find it on November 26. At minimum, I would plan on doing some serious checking around to see if the preferred store will actually stock it. You have to remember the economics. This isn't Journey. It's not Foreigner. It will likely sell 500-1000 copies in the US total. That means finding it will be a chore, unless you know a place that likes to carry releases that are not expected to sell much.

Personally, I'd suggest going to www.nehrecords.com, which is out of Colorado. They are stocking the European version, which is out on November 6. Ordered from them many a time in the past, and never even the slightest problem. It's a much safer option than trying to locate the cd in a regular store once the "release date" happens.

yes, basically. There is apparently going to be a US release later. That being said, you are talking about a release that will probably sell 5-10k copies total--and 90% of that number will be from European sales. The US market for this is negligible. Europe has an AOR/Melodic Rock scene, albeit a very small one. The US does not. Doesn't have anything to do with the quality of the cd (it's pretty good!), but just the simple economics of the situation. If you want a copy, you are better off mail-ordering the European version.

Agreed, I preordered mine from NEH. Very reasonable pricing too, especially shipping......just received Mr Big's 2009 Budakon dvd set and cd set and paid less than I would have for just the dvd set on another site and that included shipping too.

wow, that's it, five to ten thousand copies? That's a shame, but, true, I don't know many people that buy AOR music, especially lesser-known releases. Maybe b/c of three members from different bands it will be more b/c of their fans. Touring this CD would definitely help those sales.

That's the number I've heard. If someone wants to give a bigger number, I'd love to hear it. The numbers that these bands are drawing from a live perspective (when they do play live) seem to support very low numbers. The big telling sign to the size of the scene is that even something like Firefest, which is the big AOR/melodic rock festival, isn't even selling out the fairly small venue by grouping 10 bands together. Maybe someone who has been there can come up with a better attendance, but my perception is that you are talking about a 5k seat venue, not 10-15k. Either way, even taking the "big" venue theory, when you get the organizers complaining about attendance for a 8-10 band event, you know you are dealing with a VERY small scene.

here's the thing though regarding the WET cd.......Eclipse? Work of Art? Even on the AOR scene, those are small, new acts. Neither one has a huge fanbase, even by the standards of the scene. JSS is by far the biggest name due to Talisman, but you are limiting the number of average fans that will even recognize it's a JSS album due to the WET name.

The W.E.T. CD is available for pre-order on Amazon.ca (Canadian Amazon) and the release date is November 10! It's on my Christmas list, but I don't think I can wait that long.
http://www.amazon.ca/W-E-T/dp/B002P9KATU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1257155518&sr=1-1

Edit: The link does not seem to work, so just go to Amazon.ca and search for W.E.T. under music - it comes right up. Hey, I just checked Amazon.com and its US release date is November 24 - for $10 less! If you can wait the extra 2 weeks, it's coming soon!

Good call. I never even really thought of that. Thanks. I will go to that web site and just pre-order it and make it easier on myself. I appreciate the heads up. 8) 8)
