Neal and Jonathan in particular are most certainly NOT under contract. They just play with Journey until they decide to retire Journey or one of them quits. You think Schon and Cain enter contract negotiation talks every few years? They're a part of Journey - enough said. I'm guessing that they did a contract for Arnel for the first few years, but now he's just in the band until he "walks away" or they retire.

Or Neal gets a hair up his ass.

Poor Journey singers, they really go to the poorhouse.

When it ends it ends with Arnel, and he will walk away a millionaire -- multi-millionaire.

With all due respect, I MUST ask... people are believing that without a contract he will walk away a multi-millionaire? Especially with this particular group of people.

When is that true in any area of business? I truly HOPE that 'no contract' means nothing contracted that will lock him into a specified number of future obligations, and not 'no PRESENT contract at all'.

APART from that, I must say, very nice write up. Enjoyed reading it (up to that last part that is).

Please! How many lead singers has "this particular group of people" fired. Perry quit, Augeri couldn't sing anymore. That leaves one. If he is a full member as previously stated, he doesn't need a contract.

How many did they fire? 4 out of 4 before Arnel arrived! Fleischman was ninjaed out by Herbie. Perry did not actually quit. Neal and Jon made the choice to move on and told him "you're either coming or your not and if you're not, the bus is leaving without you." That does not constitute quitting. If I don't show up for work, and I continue to call in sick with no estimated return date, and they fire me over it, then I'm still fired, whether I did it do myself or not.

The comments as I recall them with Augeri were that JSS was to fill in while Augeri was recovering. I remember the news update on the Journey site that said this. They gave every indication that Augeri was to be back. Then there was then no announcement that Augeri was out, just an announcement of JSS as the "new lead singer". Whatever happened behind the scenes I don't know but from the outside, it looked crummy.

And we know what happened after that. JSS certainly didn't quit.

Just to prove a point.

Postby ttango1 » Thu Nov 05, 2009 3:20 am

As of today:
1.00 USD
=
47.5743 PHP
United States Dollars Philippines Pesos
1 USD = 47.5743 PHP 1 PHP = 0.0210197 USD

So make that 1,000,000 Dollars

1,000,000.00 USD
=
47,578,869.99 PHP
United States Dollars Philippines Pesos
1 USD = 47.5789 PHP 1 PHP = 0.0210177 USD

What can a Filipino in the Philippines do with almost 50 Million Pesos?
A whole fuckin' lot.
So, he continues to be humble despite the success.

Scarab you make me laugh. You realize your boy Tebow was born in the Philippines. Some of my peeps in JVill have asked him what he thought of Journey and they say he thinks they're cool and AP is awesome :)

Anyways, he defined it by saying he's a member for as long as they want him to be. 2011 is a year & a half away, and there is time for an album before the tour. As of right now, despite the bitching of a vocal minority, STILL THEY RIDE!

If this is the honest to God's truth, they're setting him up to get screwed. No payoff at the end. Thanks buddy, have a nice trip back.

It means he's making during the tour what Neal, Jon, Deen, and Ross are getting, instead of a per diem rate like when he first hired on. What he gets on Revelation and the DVD Manila don't ask me how that is figured.

In pesos, right? Irving Azoff get's a bit more than 50 percent of what Journey brings in. Top that off with all the members having their own personal managers who represent them, that cut's the pie quite a bit. Arnel is under contract with Bert De Leon and you have to think he's getting something for allowing Journey the privilege of using his employee.

Arnel is getting paid fairly well, I'm sure but with only mechanical royalties/performance fees coming in, to say this guy will be a multi- millionaire doesn't wash.

It's not like the old days when Groups were advanced millions of dollars to put out an album. Journey is making money off the touring which, when you subtract all the expenses associated with that, while quite lucrative isn't the end all when it comes to making money.

Even the writing credits aren't going to be a gold mine if the music isn't on the radio or being used for product promotion.

Come on, BJG, throwing in Fleischman is silly. Herbie did it and has nothing to do with much of anything to me. Herbie did it and really doesn't relate to Journey as we know it and the goings-on, the Perry years on. Whatever PR story they gave on Augeri, he iwas in hs late forties, voice that really couldn't handle the catalogue for years before this all went down, and so never could feasibily come back singing Journey, lets face it, and he knows that. JSS was fired and maybe crummy, but they realized they had made a mistake in changing his status from fill-in to naming him lead singer. So, yes, they did fire him.

Perry, call it firing all you want. Neal and Jon no more wanted to have to do that and lose out on that tour than the man in the moon. Perry had nothing to do with them from ROR until 96. and he's done nothing for 13 years since. I draw my own conclusion on his intentions re Journey. Anyone who is blaming Neal and Co for giving up and moving on I will never understand. Because of passive agressive behavior by Perry, they technically fired him, sure, but technically, out of having no choice.

Pure conjecture. You have a link or even better a copy of the contract?

No, but it's suppose to give him a crisis of confidence. If the leader of the thing you love most loves something that you don't...what do you do?

Why? He served at the singer, did he not? He counts as much as JSS did. Maybe they didn't record anything or weren't there very long, but they were in the lead singer position and were both underhandedly booted out.

If Arnel's a "full member" of the band that means that he is a partner in Nomota LLC...Which I guess wouldn't be a contract nor a gentleman's handshake but would mean that he was allotted shares in the partnership which is how the other members are paid. Given the debacle with Perry and Augeri, I would imagine he's probably be granted partnership status, but not a full and equal partner (some guys have about 35 years tenure in that partnership). In fact I will guarantee you that Arnel does not have the same portion of ownership in the band as Neal, Jonathan, et al.

Whatever you imagine Arnel would be making per year from touring with Journey, cut that down to about 40% of that amount and you'll have a rough take home amount - which would still be substantial under any circumstances.

Thanks J for the inside info.

A "gentleman's handshake" with Journey is like asking OJ Simpson to "pass you" the bread knife.

Why? He served at the singer, did he not? He counts as much as JSS did. Maybe they didn't record anything or weren't there very long, but they were in the lead singer position and were both underhandedly booted out.

Still silly - well, imho  . Neal didn't want him out, nor Rolie. Herbie called the shots and said: Perry is in, end of story, Fleischman is out.

The discussion was Neal and Jon re their "so-called underhanded firing" of Augeri, Perry and JSS -- in my mind I guess the discussion, anyway. By all means, throw in extraneous stuff. like Herbie firing Fleischman in the 70s.   I
